well in my envy 14 it was 2 dimms of 2gig samsung 1333mhz ddr-3 ram.

it runs at 1066mhz because the i5 can only do 1066mhz. i7 lets it do 1333mhz

Hi I am looking at getting the HP Envy 14-1150CA this week and I was wondering if anyone here could tell me how loud the Fan is under a heavy load and how hot it gets.

I'm sorry I could not find any review on the Envy 14-1150CA online.

    Thanks!

The reviewer is a hater lolz. My hp laptop is 5 years old and still running--my gf's using it next to me. My hp all-in-one printer is about 7 years old, and it still runs--they even still make ink for it haha.

Only thing about buying from BB is that they have a 15% restocking fee if you want to return it. Also, they charge tax, and prolly the Governator's LCD tax for Cali. :(

also friendly0fire just updated his program thing to act like the touchpad locker partially (turn off all sorts of tapping for the touchpad when typing for 1000 ms (you can modify it)

you can still move the cursor though with the touchpad and this doesn't affect a usb mouse at all. Or the two physical buttons.

The envy 14 supports 2 external displays at the same time, I saw a video of someone demonstrating this.

Eh, HP isn't always reliable. If you bought anything with nVidia in it around 2007-2008 chances are it's dead by now. That's what happened to me with my tx2000. I think HP used to be a lot more solid 5+ years ago than it is now. Still love my Envy, but I'm glad I got a Squaretrade warranty so if it dies I'll just cash in on the warranty and get a new one. Even with the recent nVidia settlement, for some reason the tx2000 series isn't included but the tx1000 is, even though they have the same parts. If I really wanted a reliable laptop that would last me 5 years, I would probably be getting a thinkpad at this point, but I prefer something reasonably well built with good specs, which the Envy 14 is.

My Envy 14 is crashing every now and then. The computer just crashes, screen is just still, nothign moves. The audio (if any was playing) would just stutter. I have to power off with the power button and restart. It's happening fairly often. No clue as to whats doing this. No new drivers/software has been installed in ages.

That's the tablet notebook, right? My lappy is from 2007, and is still running strong. The specs are crap, but it does regular stuff without any problems. Just wish that they still made 'em as durable tho.

I've been having a problem that is persisting after a clean install, but when I was on HP's minimized install, the system would freeze with that stutter too. I think it was HP's software misbehaving that caused the system to completely freeze. On a clean install I get the sound stutter when I first listen to a song with any song software, mediasmart , WMP or VLC but I get no complete freezes. I can find nothing that stands out as the problem. It just stutters for a while and I can't launch anything, but the cursor still moves around.

Zman (I think) suggested this Windows hotfix recently: A computer that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows 7 stops responding randomly

I haven't had a chance to try it as my Envy is in for repair but it sounds like it may work...

    Hey guys,

Can someone summarise for me the problems with this notebook that owners seem to have? For example, in the Asus U45JC thread a lot of people are complaining about the hard drive noise and build quality in that thread - something like that.

What is the reliability of this notebook like? Are owners experiencing things not working or are things dying? HP seem to have a bad reputation for reliability on community forums however I'm considering taking the plunge on this notebook since the specs are very good. Reliability is particularly important for me as I will be importing this notebook from Australia and if something doesn't work or dies it could be a very big hassle.

    Thanks!

Yeah, I have the same problem.

When i press fn+b now, i dont get the beats symbol on screen and there is no change in sound.

However, a new process spawns called beats.exe and pushes the CPU about 25% hence making my fan go crazy.

If you press fn+b again, then the process spawns a second instance.

Yesterday i had beats.exe running 10 times with my fan going crazy before i realised what was going on.

Is there anyway to sort this mess out?

I'm concerned that i'm now getting worse quality than i should expect

When you installed the latest update of the IDT Audio driver it broke the EQ Fn + B switch. This was literally discussed 3 pages back. Search can save you a lot of time typing.

Reinstall the original version of the IDT Audio driver in the SWSetup folder and Fn + B will work again. If Windows doesn't show the popup saying a new audio driver was found it hasn't been fully reinstalled. If by chance it still doesn't work then install the original versions of the hp quicklaunch, hptonecontrol and the Original IDT Audio driver. When HP will address this problem is unknown. It's been a problem with every update of the Audio driver. It's just a software bug issue. Instead of interacting with the windows EQ, Fn + B restarts the Beats EQ interface repeatedly which leads to all the zombie processes and CPU spikes.

Hi everyone!!! Ok I'm not officially part of the gang yet and I live in the UK, so yes no sign of radiance as it stands. The man clearly stated that the option is only available in the US. I hate HP so much right now.

As my persistence is just getting bigger because I can't forgive myself for not being aware of this PC earlier even if it meant paying an extra $300 for the screen, I stumbled across HP Germany. They not only have better specs than the UK versions in both envy 14 1000 and 1100 series but in one of them (1010eg) the discription states 1600*900 display.

I just cannot believe this! But since I'm no German expert and I'm relying on a translator I'm still to find out if at least 1 is available. This laptop search has to come to a conclusion and just when I think I've made up my mind, HP does it again.

My second and third option would be a DV6 pavilion or a Sony Vaio EB (configurable). But then again I don't have much insight on neither of the two. I was already getting used to this forum. Does anyone here have any experience with either one? *Of course if I go to the Vaio forum, they'll say it's a good choice!* :D

I was in MediaMarkt and Saturn the other week in Berlin and both only had the brightview screen.

IF you can get a good deal, dont be too put off by the non-radiance, i'm more than happy with it. If you never knew it was an option you would have been perfectly happy.

    Correct.

This is a real pain when taking notes in class and you have to restart. :(

EDIT: I put a clean install on my ENVY when I got it, not the minimized recovery thing.

I know it might sound that I'm being picky and all but what does great audio serve if you have an average screen? I stopped at John Lewis today to compare HP and Sony Vaio E screens but with the desktop they set up there wasn't much to see... Still just confused all together.

The envy 14 is the only solid choice I have. I've read clear reviews, went to Youtube, found this very helpful and embracing forum. The Vaio E series has mixed reviews (I am yet to have another read through their forum) and none directed at the model I want. And the DV6 3119sa from HP, I only have the actual website for credit.

What upsets me more about the Envy 14 (UK ed) is that the most important specs processor, memory and all are EXACTLY the same as the DV6 3119sa I'm interested. I would beasically be buying for an extra £300 just upgraded graphics card, backlit keyboard, extra battery life and possibly Microsoft Office. That's what's upsetting me!

I guess it's just a matter of whether those things are worth that much to you and whether or not you will use them. Price vs. Style. The Envy 14 is a pretty solid nice looking computer. Like you said though, the most important specs are the same.

FWIW Sony puts out a good product most of the time too. Sounds like a tough choice to me.

I know there is no numpad on the hp Envy 14, but is there like a hidden "superimposed Fn + key" numpad that just isn't labeled? If there isn't, is there some program that i can use to simulate one because i need a numpad for some programs.

I truly believe that this mic doesn't work. I have a headset with green/red inputs and i plug it in and my recording device is not picking up ANYTHING. With my USB (condenser) microphone, everything works fine.

Has anyone attempted record sound with a 3.5mm input to the microphone jack?

If not superimposed on the keys, then no.

Best bet, buy an external numpad. USB type or bluetooth. I bought a Microsoft bluetooth one and it works great. Bluetooth® Number Pad

Doubtful and cumbersome. There exists key remapping software out there. But your best bet is to get an external numpad.

What keys are you trying to simulate on the numpad?

Yeah but seee, the problem with that is when i chane focus to the on-screen keyboard, it wont matter if i push a button since it isnt going to that program.

They should work like the windows 7 one. Where it doesn't lose focus unless the program you are talking about is full screen only and doesn't run in a window.

    You can try this:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-envy-hdx/484905-official-hp-envy-17-owners-lounge-198.html

Though the E14 doesn't have an imprinted numpad on the keyboard, the corresponding keys on most notebooks for num4 and num5 is "u" and "i" respectively. So when you do the above, use these keys for 4 & 5.

Otherwise, an external numpad looks like your only solution.

*shrugs* could do something kinda backwards and setup an xbox 360 controller to have one or two of the buttons be numpad buttons (since that would work. 'course you'd need to buy xpadder or something)

I mean it's definitely not the best solution (and is kinda..cumbersome)

I had the same problem, I think my windows crashed and got corrupted. When you startup, you need to press esc and set it to boot from a disk. You'll have to boot from your windows recovery disk in order to past the blank screen. Either system restore, if that doesn't work, you will need to reformat. I had to use the windows disk everytime so I would go past that black screen. Go to msconfig and on boot, it should be different than usual due to windows being corrupted. I forgot what it says but its like if you don't have windows installed.

The Microsoft official ISO image don't recognize any harddisk to install the system and advice me to provide a controller... What controller must I provide?!! Where can I find it?

It didn't ask me for any driver, and MSFT includes an AHCI driver in Win 7. Maybe your HDD is bad? If it really needs the driver, then it's talking about the Intel AHCI/RAID driver. I'm not sure how to F6 install a driver in Windows 7. I think you can put those drivers on a thumb drive for Windows 7.

    ENVY 14 WHINE LOCATED

The red zone, whatever it is, makes a high pitch tone, whine. The yellow zone makes a much quit tone than the red one.

After 2 months on service they changed the FAN, not fixing the real problem. Now I feel more for taking the trouble in my own hands...

And suggestion how to fix this ? Glue??

if you turn the laptop on and put some pressure with your finger for example on the chip in the red area does the whine go away?
