Can anyone tell me how to uninstall my current 10.8 graphics drivers and install HP's 10.3?
-
hey guys, i went with envy 14 i5-450m with radiance screen, anyone with the similar laptop please let me know which power is the power adapter? which power pin outer diameter? it's going to take a while to deliver, so i would try and order beforehand.
-
dood i dont think glue is safe to put on a chip with current going through it... if it didnt work with you holding it down then the glue is not going to do anything anyways. maybe the wine is from inside the chip. anyhow i would recommend not putting glue just because youll have more problems than the whine after. although glue is not electrically conductive, in such a small clearance between the wires its probably more conductive than air and you might fry the chip
-
Upgraded to 8GB (Identical Memory) and WEI score jumped from 5.9 to 6.7. I guess the dual channel does works lol.
-
the radiance screen is available again?...i dont see it on the hp site.
-
Anything new to get the HD webcam to do HD video yet?
-
How much ram did you have before?
And how did you find the identical stick? -
Install the newest HP Mediamart stuff from here and your webcam can do 720P:

Hey guys,
Im seeing some weird effects flying all over the place in some games, namely SC2 and borderlands. Ive tried some other games and they look fine. Both games are playable but its really annoying.
I have tried installing 10.8 hp and atis and others but i think im just going to roll back to 10.3b(stock). Anyone know if i need to uninstall the current one or how i should go about this?
Thanks -
Has anyone opened their Envy to clean it out yet?
-
I too would like to know how to go back to 10.3.

What I believe you need to do to get back to 10.3, 'cause it worked for me the two times I've done it by accident/whatever:
First make sure you initially started with 10.3 (or 10.7 or whatever hp drivers you started with). I mean if you can swap to the intel gpu, you are good to go.
Second. If you're now on ati drivers of some sort, uninstall them like you would normally. If your base hp drivers were 10.3 you will get a black screen. If they were 10.7, you will not get a permanent black screen.
Third. if black screen, wait like 10 minutes. Then try to reboot/put the computer to sleep and wake it up (should get your screen back) and finish what you were doing (reboot now/hit that button on the ati uninstall thing that says "ok" with text above it that's something like "you gotta restart the computer"
Fourth. reboot. This is still the first reboot after you uninstalled those ati drivers. not a second reboot.
Fifth. you're done. you should automatically have rebooted with 10.3 because at least for my computer they acted like a failsafe/fallback that always came up if I was screwing around with stuff and installing ati drivers and breaking things somehow.
sixth. you may have to reboot twice, I dunno.
seventh. if this didn't work and instead you're on the vga driver (640x480 screen) just go install the old hp drivers package that should be in your swsetup folder. then you'll be on the 10.3 drivers.
eighth. if for some reason you boot to a black screen in windows. Hit f8 a lot when booting up, get into the windows boot menu, pick boot with last known good configuration. that usually worked for me.
ninth. if that still doesn't work, get into safe mode and use system restore to go back to before you uninstalled the ati drivers. You may be outta luck until you do a clean install or something because your envy is being really finicky. -
So how exactly do I visualize the product? Do I have to call them? It wouldn't be a very practical option as I live in the UK. Help appreciated
-
How do you uninstall the driver normally?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
start --> control panel --> uninstall programs ---> ati catalyst install manager.

I have 4GB before, 1 stick. Add another 4GB for a total of 8GB. 2 Things you can do, first is to open your E14 and take out the RAM and see the model on the label, 2nd is with a software that can do that like everest. Mine cost about 75 bucks for Samsung stick. I run memory test after installing the 2nd pair, all Passed and win7 asked for re run assesment for WEI.
Planning to add an external monitor, anyone have recomendation?I'm going to hook it up using a mini display port since the HDMI hooked up to my TV. Is there any monitors that have mini display connection? Would 5650 be able to handle 3D monitor?Like nvidia did with the 3D kit. -
that's great news, i was worried about buying a new stick and it not being compatible. I have 6 now, but 8 would give me bragging rights
I'm also interested about the screen question. I have a 3D monitor for my desktop, but I havent bothered with the buying the kit yet, but if the 5650 can run it, maybe I will -
Huh. I have 4GB (2X2GB) and I'm getting 5.9. I would have thought I already have dual channel...
-
Is beats audio a hardware or a software thing ?
-
Yeah..I was surprised too...and Im not lying..lol
-
I just got my Envy. Can you create recovery disc after doing a minimized recovery?
-
The jump isn't because of the dual channel fellas...it's because you doubled your ram. lol.

Does anybody else have problems with running flash apps on their envy 14?
I'm playing a normal facebook game and the app is lagging severely on both firefox and chrome.. I tried reinstalling the flash but the same problem persists. My old asus laptop is running the app smoothly. I will appreciate any advice!
Thanks in advance! -
Guys, I could use some advice. I have (as said above) had my Envy 14 put in for a warranty repair - replacement keyboard. This is all in process but I was advised today that the replacement keyboard had an ETA of... November 1. Bear in mind that they have already had my laptop for a week.
So, I got annoyed and told them this was too long, and I would prefer to just get a refund or replacement. Got through various people on the subcontinent and the outcome is: I can email through my proof of purchase and they will okay a replacement Envy 14, which I can simply pick up from the store of original purchase.
Here's my question: am I better off getting a new one (which may have worse issues, such as a dead pixel, my biggest horror), or waiting out the repair and then at least knowing I have everything working.
Any thoughts? I am quite uncertain. -
But why the RAM performance that is bumped up?Are having more RAM actually making a RAM perform faster?I know its making the system faster...but it just weird if you doubled the RAM, making the RAM work faster. That's why the dual channel assumption make more sense.
-
I guess it's really a matter of how WIE comes up with it's scores. I'm pretty sure my WIE for my RAM in my old DV8 was around 6.7, and I had 8 GB of 1333mhz RAM in that computer. Maybe the amount of RAM means more to the WIE score than speed or bandwidth.
-
It's not exactly about "speed" really. It's just that more RAM is seen as being better. Put it to you this way, pop in 2x2GB and compare that WEI score to a 4GB+2GB configuration, and the latter will have a much higher WEI score, just because it has more memory. The performance boost from a dual configuration is basically useless. I mean, might be 2-3% here and there, but that's about it.
-
how many pieces did you encounter with dead pixels?
-
Thanks to everyone who pointed out that the WEI memory score is influenced by the amount of RAM. I'd been assuming that it was only measuring actual RAM performance.
Microsoft describes it this way:
That's from a page about Vista, but I'm assuming it's true for Win 7 as well. -
Yeah, the way they describe it in the WEI window is misleading from it's actual meaning. "Memory Operations per Second" sounds more like they are gauging performance when actually they are just counting gigabytes.
-
anyone care to help?
-
Would still like this issue resolved. It's quite a pain.
-
It's a software thing.
-
Ah.
I'm still on F.06. Are there any negatives to the new BIOS updates? And should I skip straight over to F.13? -
I updated to F.13 straight from factory bios. I think it has no problems except ur fan gets a lil bit louder when gaming. Although it lowers ur max temps significantly like 10+ Celcius degrees both GPU and CPUs.
-
Alright, sweet. Does the BIOS update work straight from the HP site, or do I have to modify it? I don't have my quickweb partition anymore.
-
This one works without any modifications necessary.
-
I'm not sure what you are trying to find out. What exactly do you need to know about the power adapter?
-
Tell me if updating your bios solves the freezing problem, please.
-
I think the only problem associated with the new BIOS is the inability to do a recovery. I am unsure of this myself since I have yet to make my recovery discs...
-
I've recently been getting problems with my mouse. The mouse randomly disconnects when I use my webcam for Skype. It reconnects shortly after but it gets annoying since the disconnection sound keeps going off when I am Skyping. The webcam is a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and the mouse is a Logitech G500. I also have the computer connected to my external hard drive via e-Sata, a wireless keyboard and a notebook cooler.
MagusDraco, you've reported having the same problems with the USB mouse, have you found a fix for it yet? I think it's mainly to do with the devices not receiving enough power.
I've also noticed the return of a slight whine from my computer again (I fixed it before by the microphone tweak). I am unsure if its the hard drive spinning or the dreaded CPU whine, it's quieter than before however, but it has me worried. I've disabled Bluetooth just in case, but it hasn't helped. BIOS is at F.13. -
Just a heads up. ATi has Catalyst 10.10 up now.
Download: (x64 for Radeon 5650)
ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver -
Anyone notice the posted Audio Drivers yesterday, dated 2010-10-21. I installed them and they seem to fix my Fn-B problem. When I tried to enable Fn-B the software would get stuck.
-
ok thanks.. i'll pass it in to service after all. -
Thanks for these updates ! Installed them both.
+Rep for you two -
Sorry, but where are you seeing these?
-
Can these simply be installed or is there a special order given the GPU switching?
