So if everything's currently working, then I can just install the AMD drivers? Or I need to also install the HP drivers first?

Sorry, a bit confused about the order here... and thanks!

They are on the drivers page on page one of this forum. I just reinstalled the original drivers the other day and something happened that made it say hardware not supported. It then rebooted and reinstalled the microsoft High Definition Audio driver that is located under system devices. Since then I have not been able to get the buzzing audio noise to happen again. I am hoping that it has fixed my audio buzzing problem.

As long as the HP drivers are already installed, and switchable graphics is working properly, you can install the newer drivers.

I downloaded and ran the ATI Catalyst Installer (version 8.782), but when I go to the Catalyst control panel, it still says I have version 8.741. Did I miss something?

Okay sweet, I've updated everything on my ENVY so it's all caught up.

Just one issue remains - the brightness buttons do not work while on the ATI card. Is this due to the new drivers?

It could be the new drivers, you could try taking the battery out and holding the power button for about a minute. It sometimes fixes weird issues. I have been noticing that sometimes when the computer comes out of hibernation, the fn key BIOS setting doesn't always work. I have to hold fn to get the brightness, backlight etc. Not really sure why this happens, but it's not too big of a deal. It only happens sometimes. Anybody else have this happen?

The brightness buttons don't work for me either after this update (when using ATI graphics). The brightness buttons still work on the Intel graphics.

    Me neither...

For now you can go into the Mobility Center and change brightness though. Right click on battery icon in the tray and it's there.

The other better solution is to uninstall the 10.10 DRIVER (10.10 CCC doesnt need to be uninstalled) and then you can roll back to 10.08 with this https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/920...mobile/10-8_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe

they support the 5650 when it's not setup with intel switchable graphics.

they support it when it's setup with amd switchable graphics (like on the dv6z) and stuff.

I guess they did it that way because "their marketing strategy" in mind, "Buy AMD processors, not Intel"

This sucks...it took HP a LONG time to update it.

Actually you want to uninstall the 10.10 CCC also. Each version of CCC is designed to be optimized with the corresponding version of the video driver. As per the ATI driver 'release notes' that recommend to always install the new driver and matching CCC package at the same time for maximum performance and stability. In other words don't use 10.10 CCC with the 10.8 driver.....

EDIT: FYI: the 10.10 package should show as ATI driver and CCC version 8.782 when installed properly in Win 7 x 64....

is it possible to replace the WLAN card with WWAN card? (Using WLAN antenna), I assume the SIM card Slot is already active on all E14, it just need to communicate with WWAN card. I heard somehwere they starting to make WWAN+WLAN card on a single PCB. I was just curious.

Yes, if you made a set of recovery disks (or purchased from HP for $14.95), you can recover the system to its factory state then back up the SwSetup folder and do your clean install again.

Did anyone notice that the IDT Audio Driver on HP's Software Driver & Downloads page is dated 2010-10-21, but it's the original driver, not a new one, sp48435.exe, version 1.00A, "Original Software/Drivers"? I installed it, thinking I was getting something new, but it put back the old version 1.0.6265.0 driver. The latest driver seems to be the 6.10.6289.0 version on the NBR Drivers and Software Forum page, sp49533.exe

Question: if I can choice between a Envy 14 i7 with a 1600x900 screen or a i5 with a 1366x768 screen what is the better choice then? I though it was the i7 with a better resolution? Or is the battery life that bad?

Both are great choices, but it's really up to YOU to decide which is better. Do you want an Envy with better performance and a great looking screen or do you want an Envy with better battery life (around 1.5 hours more) and a decent looking screen?

    go into the bios.

turn off action keys. that'll swap it so you have to do fn+10 to turn on the wifi and f10 will just be f10, etc. and so forth for the other f-keys

Probably want to get at least an i5 processor for gaming.
That really depends on your uses for it. For basic stuff the Macbook Pro 13 would be good, but for gaming you'd probably want the Envy 14.

My personal Macbook Pro 13 experience wasn't very good. It ran hot and wifi was extremely slow, system performance was slow IMO too. I returned it.

The Envy is a bargain compared with other systems with the same specs, and I have enjoyed it so far. It runs cool, has switchable graphics, decent battery life (about 3-4.5 hrs depending on what you're doing) and it looks better IMO. I like the etched design and solid construction. It's actually comparable with a Macbook Pro 15 considering the 14.5 inch screen and specs.

Macbook Pro's are good computers, it sounds like a tough choice, you just need to figure out what your uses will be and decide which one will fill those needs best.

radiance is gone (for the most part, a few refurb units on hp's refurb website have radiance screens)

not sure what happened to the 160gb ssd..maybe it got replaced with a different option.

anyway doesn't matter really which i5.

450, 460, 560, 580 are all about the same, roughly speaking.

little bit faster here or there for the newer ones but not $100+ faster usually
