Does anyone know whether TuneXP will optimize Win7 as it optimizes Vista? Any other software you guys would recommend for speeding up boot/shutdown times and cleaning?
-
Best to fix that to the beginning of your Envy 14 youtube review. -
Laptop is in! Perfect so far
Fan is quiet
No whine noticed so far (I am sensitive to whine in CPU's)
HP backlight fine
Trackpad is level though finicky before any updating
No blemishes
Time to try it out then clean install -
What is this!? My OS is clearly 64 bit and yet it is limiting my usable memory!? -
This has probably already been asked but...are there any suitable webcam programs that e14 can utilize thats NOT using HP MediaSmart?
-
do you really need to plug it first b4 it can be turnd on? mime had to be plugged first. no issues so far, no wine, i have an i5 520 with ssd. how lomg does it take to create the backup dvds? im on an hour already and disk 2 is just 75%. it needs 4disks to backup

SnugglyFoo, the .2 GB of used ram is for the intel integrated graphics. All is fine with your system.

Hi eXtraBullet,
Do you hear any CPU whine?
My envy 14 arrives on 29th.. i'm a little worry about the CPU whine..
Thank you for your youtube video. -
Sooo....one issue I've encountered is that the screen brightness seems so-so. Colors look better than those that show up on my G50VT's 1366x768 screen. But the difference in brightness isn't noticeable Also the difference between the second to last and last brightness setting (90% vs 100?) isn't all that big as people say. Is there an alternate method of raising brightness?

I installed the two finger scroll app listed on the first page, which works great. However, I can no longer one-finger click and drag anything in the OS! Please help! This includes clicking on a window and dragging it.
Also, how do I turn off the tap-click feature of the trackpad? It's driving me crazy with all the mistakes I'm making. In fact, everything about the trackpad is driving me crazy. Hopefully I can customize it to my liking, but right now it's a huge step down from my Macbook.
The display looks awesome, though it's practically a mirror. -

looks like i got the slight discoloration when on a weird angle, the rainbow thing. doesnt bother me a lot because it cant be seen when in normal view. dis any of you guys have that? and would it come off?

I didn't have much of it though. -
This is probably a stupid question but im still waiting to have my envy charge fully before turning on is the windows 7 product key in the little SD card with the manual.
-
In light of this, is there any chance HP is sourcing their displays from different companies? -
Hey guys, I've heard that the first cycles of a battery are really important. Can anyone point me to an article explaining the best things to do when you first get your battery?
The battery articles on the front page just explain how to take care of it and maintain it as long as possible, but not what to do for the first cycles.
Any help would be appreciated -
Its actually looking better than before even before installing any drivers and running super low res. I think the Envy theme doesnt do it justice. It may have a pinkish tint when not dead on though, which others have reported. Ill try color settings that have been posted -
Is anyone else disappointed with the sound on their laptop? I am not talking about the speakers, I know laptop speakers are generally trash, but when I plugged my earbuds into the noise floor seemed pretty loud (I'd estimate around 25 dB). I thought that the audio was supposed to be shielded or something to keep out a lot of the electrical noise from interfering with the audio, but from the sound of it I it doesn't. I don't have any detailed impressions about the sound reproduction yet, but it seemed mediocre.
-
-
I'm also getting weird beeping noises whenever audio kicks in. Anyone know anything about that? -

Well, you are pretty much having to determine if you need extra speed for increase in $$ and decrease in storage size.
Some say the speed is unnoticable in most cases(how many times will you open browser/misc app and/or boot up from restart?). I always go from sleep to resume so SSD is pointless. -
Do you guys know the second shipment has a updated BIOS. If you look in the BIOS is not F02 but F05. Wondered what they changed...
-
HP says,
Fixes an issue where the Brightness hotkey does not work with the HP QuickWeb Software.
Fixes a smart-adapter detection issue where users observe that the battery cannot be fully charged. -

a new bios? huh.

Earlier there was a discussion about possible throttling of the i3 cpus due to the 90 degree Tj. max. I got mine today (i3-370m) and ran IntelBurnTest with it. My temps were maxing out at 65 deg. (room temp was 79F) so it may not be a big issue.
I noticed the cooling fans weren't even running at full blast a lot of the time, so the cooling system seems to be up to the task. -
After a reboot my backlight key seems to have stopped working. What do I need to do to get it to continue working?
-
Umm, I just did a clean install, and luckily I've gotten like 90% of the things working again, but does anyone know what driver I have to install/update in order to get that "Volume Control Display"? Usually when I pressed the Mute button or Volume Up/Down, a display would come up in Blue with the level of volume. How do I get this back?
-
Received mine today, hopefully retyrning tomorrow. Touchpad is nowhere near flush, I can see internal parts of laptop through the gap between touchpad and body of computer. I ordered with bing and got a 113 dollar credit, and now they are trying to take away the creit saying their policy has changed and the same credit on a new order would cancel bing. What a bunch of bs and terrible qc on this second round of envys
-
EDIT: NVM. Seems to be hardware-controlled. Works fine. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
also that OSD pulled you out of a game that was fullscreen an wasn't worth it.
Best bet is to just get 3rvx and use it instead: Download 3RVX (formerly 3r1c) 2.5 Free - A volume notification and control utility - Softpedia -
Congrats to all those that got their Envy's today!
-
what difference would it make if I was just to uninstall the bloatware as opposed to doing a fresh install? Because I purchased the windows backup dvd when I purchased my envy but I'm still reluctant to attempt a clean install.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
*shrugs* in the end not too much probably.
might not be as clean a windows as a clean install but big whoop. -
What driver do i need to re-install to have a backlit keyboard.
-
I love this thing! No whine at all!

I did not get an hdmi to vga adapter with my envy 14. I realized that I might need vga for college presentations so a hdmi to vga adapter would be useful. Is there any adapters that are cheaper than the HP one, which are cheaper? I don't feel like buying the $50 hp adapter.

hm... even if the screen is off i can see the weird discoloration of the lcd. any suggestions guys on how to take this off?
-

-
Dammit. Is there a separate driver for controlling volume and brightness? The 3VRX didn't do squat and I can't lower brightness.
Guess it's down to using HP Mediasmart.
