I took out the Ram in my Envy to see what was and it is Micron MT16JSF51264HZ. This is very expensive if you buy a 4GB stick. Is this correct?

Just got off the phone with Hp Parts Store and they said my product hasn't even shipped yet and that it's on back order. UGH. The guy on the phone didn't say anything about a backorder.
I may cancel my order since these things never get in stock. -
I had a chat with the parts store last night and they said that if I called during the business hours the rep at the parts store could give me an accurate ETA.
-
Well I called during business hours and she didn't know anything. She just said it was on backorder and the warehouse was waiting on the part. They didn't have anything as far as when they were getting more either.
So annoying. They advertise something online and they don't even have it. -
how did you set it up? did you have to do anything extra to make it work? where did you get it?
-
So I called back looking to cancel my order and the guy said it was all set to ship tomorrow. . Nice job HP parts store.

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know how to force a Hard drive to SATA II. For some reason the Intel RST is running my WD drive at SATA I when its capable of SATAII.
I'm running Intel RST version 9.6.1.1001 and the drive in questions is WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB SATA Hard Drives ( WD5000BPVT ). Its placed in a Delock External eSATAp to SATA HDD.
Thanks -
ok so I got the SRS audio to work, but im wondering if anyone here changed the settings at all? the defaults are great, but is there a way to optimize your sound?
-
I've tried every single setting available to me, SRS muddles the sound and ruins the soundstage. I guess this software is great for poorer speakers, but you wouldn't want to digitally alter your sound like that if you have a set of good sound reproduction devices.
-
Can anyone confirm if the eSATA port on the Envy is capable of SATA II?
-
Fantastic. Please post a picture of what it looks like upon arrival. I am sending my Envy back for another and I guess if you are happy with the screen from HP parts I will go ahead and order mine. Upon review of the service manual I do not think it is going to be a problem installing it.
-
I just got NFS: Hot pursuit, and it runs great on 1600 x 900... with one caveat
I think it might be a little too intensive, because twice now the computer has crashed from what I could only imagine as overheating
The first time, the screen went grey and the second time it just displayed random color patterns.
I turned it (back) on and hwmonitor said that it was ~75 on startup, so I'm assuming it was overheating
I'm in a dorm right now that's being heated, so the ambient temperature isn't helping either, but is there anything else that could possibly be done to avoid this? -
Hey have anybody solved the diagonal lines in screen issue...im having the same..and i am thinking to call hp for replacing the LCD
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
catalyst 10.11 is out.
it also breaks the brightness up and down buttons while on the ati gpu -
I noticed crashing in IE9 and Photoshop if Im on integrated graphics. Anyone else?
-
I know with IE9, they are using hardware acceleration. You can disable it in advanced options. Probably the same cause with Photoshop.
HP needs to release updated driver sets. -
As nice as switchable graphics is for battery life, it sure is implemented poorly.
Who's responsible for fixing it? ATI, Intel, or HP? -
are there any driver updates from hp?
-
Just curious if anyone knows the estimated shipping time for an E14 that is "in transit" location: Shanghai destination:NY. Mine is on its way and im a little impatient. This will be my second laptop since my DV6000t going back 4 years ago. Im a little excited.
-
What was your first laptop since then? By the way, I just upgraded from a dv6000t.
-
I think he means the dv6000t was his first laptop, and this one is his second
correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway Dtao, Shanghai is where they're built, so your laptop would have just left the factory a while ago. I'm guessing about a week or so? Enjoy your new computer
it's got a few small problems here and there but if you're not too picky about it you'll find it's a wonderful little machine.
-
ESC to go into boot menu.
see the first post of the thread to see how to do a clean install.
push the eject button on ur keyboard to eject CD lol. its near top right. -
Yep, the DV was my first laptop and it actually is still running, and well. I now use it for my office at one of my shops. I cant wait for the envy to arrive. I purchased the Beats edition for two reasons, looks, but more importantly because i used a $400 off coupon. Price came out to be $909 after taxes and in my mind you cant really beat that.
Besides CPU/Fan noises, GPU underclocking, keyboard flex, and track pad issues, are there any other ones?
My build is as followed;
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-460M Dual Core Processor (2.53 GHz, 3MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz
1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 5650 switchable graphics [HDMI] - For Dual Core Processors
6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) [will upgrade to the full 8GB later]
500GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection -
Definitely HP since they modify drivers to work with the switchable graphics option.
-
Most of the time, if it's running in a crippled sata mode, it's because of a jumper being installed. You might need to take it out of the case and check the jumper settings with what they say on their website, different manufacturers use different jumper settings.
-
I would save money and get the 4GB RAM option and buy your own RAM. HP prices theirs pretty high; you're better off getting an 8GB kit from newegg.
-
Did you get confirmation of shipping?
-
Default on these drives is to run SATAII and you can force it to use SATAI with a jumper. Definitely NO jumper on drive and caddy.
My only assumption is that the eSATAp port is only capable of SATAI. Can anyone confirm this? i haven't been able to find anything in the manual that specifies the specs of this port. -
I didn't have a chance to call today but I did not receive an email confirmation that it shipped which I was told I would. I will have to call tomorrow to see if it shipped. So far, not impressed with HP's parts store service.
-
When you look at it that way yes it would be cheaper. But i wouldn't be purchasing a 8GB for a while so itll be nice to have 6GB over 4GB for the time being.
-
Does anyone know where to buy a matching 4 GB stick of RAM at a reasonable price?
-
I am waiting somewhat impatiently for the outcome of your delivery.
-
I usually just use crucial memory [ www.crucial.com ]. They have always been my first place to go.

Hi im 14 and im on the market for a new laptop. My preferences are 15 inches or less thing notebooks. i dont care about weight...infact i much more prefer a bit of weight as it is a sign of good build quality. im upgrading from a dell inspiron 1545 (aka spiron) and was looking for some metal notebooks. i need a notebook that will game for me when i need it to game for example hooked up to a big screen tv and have a decent battery life 5 hours minimum when i need it to do regular stuff like check email and such. my inspiron has a maximum battery life of about 1 hour so i really need a good battery life when i go to high school. 2 computer models have caught my attention. firstly the hp envy 14 beats edition that i would order with
-i7 640m (special order on ebay)
-ATI HD 5650
-Normal Res screen (option on ebay is 300 dollars which is too high plus i saw the 720p screen at bestbuy and it looked very nice
-4gb of RAM
-500gb HDD
And also an Alienware M11x featuring
-i7 640UM
-Nvidia GT335M
-720p screen
-4gb of RAM
-500gb HDD
QUESTIONS
I have also looked at the envy 15 but they have stopped producing these and they have bad heat issues and i could feel a difference between the heat on the envy 15 which was very warm vs the envy 14 which was completely cool to touch. I also was wondering if there was such a thing as software based GMA? an i7 720 inside the envy 14 would be superb but the battery life and heat given off on my lap or at school would be large. Also is it possible to fit dual 1.8 ssds in the Envy 14? i noticed you can in the envy 15 and if this was possible in the envy 14 that would be incredible. is there any way to switch out the underclocked 5650 in the envy 14 to a normal clocked 5650?
UPGRADES
these are the upgrades i would later on do on both the alienware and the envy
-upgrade memory to 8gb
-upgrade hdd to 120gb force ssd or 160gb intel ssd
-apply coollabratory liquid ultra on the cpu and gpu
PERFORMANCE
i read on engadget that the performance of a i5 450m envy equals to around 6900 on 3dmark06 while the alienware m11x gets around 6100 NOT OVERCLOCKED. overclocked i saw the alienware get up to 7700. this is much better then the envy 14 and the gpu must be superb since the processor is the weakest link. this made me think a little about the envy 14 since overclocking seems to be nonexistent. has anyone got better results with the envy 14 in 3dmark06?
BATTERY LIFE
i want to let everyone know...i want performance and battery life seperately i do not at all need performance on battery life. i want to plug my laptop in to my big hd screen and play some games. while also having enough battery life to perform basic tasks such as surf the net or work on documents. battery life seems to be equal when both laptops use dedicated or built in graphics.
OTHER OPTIONS
if anyone has any suggestions i will consider them but i will not consider anything plastic. would it be better to just get some sort of gaming notebook and a netbook? im not a fan of this idea because all my files would be on different computers.
CONCLUSION
please get back to me as soon as possible and im buying this laptop with my own money so dont call me spoiled
-
Having files on two separate computers is a nonissue in this day of wireless networking and removable storage. You can set your computers up so that they automatically detect and access each other's files.

dropbox is your friend in other words.
I really need to learn to use it one of these days -
Yeah, I hadn't thought about the actual port not being sata II capable. It's like that on my desktop too. Runs at 1.5 GB instead of 3.0. I don't know about the specifics of the case your talking about, but it's looking like something isn't capable of it.
-
I already posted my answer to this question, but here it is again
holy crap. i wish i had 1400 to spend when i was 14, let alone now.
beats edition is a bit silly if you ask me. an extra couple hundred bucks for a black case and red back lighting? just save your money on cosmetics and put it into the guts of the computer.
also, I didn't think the alienware had a metal chassis, correct me if im wrong.
i7 would kill the battery life, and only runs on the dedicated card. the intel chip is built into the i5 processor. there is no such thing as a software graphics processor (that i know of), i dont think thats possible. and there is no need to re-do the thermal compound. it would void the warranty, and give you a 2 -3 degree temperature drop tops. the cooling paste and cooling system on the envy 14 is awesome. if your worried about cooling, get a good cooling pad. overclocking the envy also only gives like, 5 extra fps MAX. its not really worth it imo. -
I just called them and they said my order shipped and I should be getting it today.
-
I just checked my tracking number and it is indeed "out for delivery"
-
I am waiting to RMA the Envy I have and get another one without all of the build issues, by I am waiting until you get this screen to see that I can in fact order and install the Radiance screen. If I cannot get the Radiance screen, I would just return the Envy and find another computer. The 1366X768 is just that much of a deal breaker. I was using it last night and it is just simply not the type of experience I would expect on this computer.
-
Does anyone else find it a bit annoying that the edge below the palm rest is so sharp and somewhat uncomfortable on your palms when typing on the Envy? Maybe it just have terrible typing posture.
-
I have never noticed that.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
haven't noticed that.
-
I guess I was remiss for not highlighting that I own a 17. The difference in space could be why I haven't noticed it.
What I have noticed is that the largeness of the trackpad can screw up my typing. I like to disable it if I'm going to do a lot of typing. -
I honestly have always had a tough time typing on a laptop because of the track pad. I can't imagine when i get my laptop (in newark nj btw
) that it will be all that bad. Plus ive heard Reil's software or whatever works very well.
-
I did a complete format and deleted all the partitions, everything is fine however, I can't install the HP service program which shows you which modules need updating this is due to it needing to create it on a partition I deleted. So is there any way or links to updated drivers, UK site shows dated ones.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
usually the hp website (US one) has up to date drivers.
also you can look in the drivers folder on this forum
there's more than the envy14 in that thread since some of the drivers are shared with several types of HP computers.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-hp-dm4-dv5-gen-2-g32-cq32-envy-14-intel.html -
thanks tad confused but is the
http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...-hp-dm4-dv5-gen-2-g32-cq32-envy-14-intel.html
contain all the drivers I need because the British one didn't even have wifi drivers.
Please link to US drivers download page too. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well, the wifi will depend on your wifi thing.
you are likely to have the broadcomm wifi since the intel 6200 n is primarily US envy only.
both have broadcomm bluetooth I think.
also that thing contains more drivers than you need. I'm also guessing you forgot to save the swsetup folder before formatting. that had all of your drivers in it.
