The main reason I want to do a system backup is because I have some expensive software on my current computer that I do not want to re-buy. Is there any way I can keep get it to the new computer without having to do a backup?
-
You could probably do it yourself. It really depends on how comfortable you are with taking apart and reassembling electronics.
If you want to create several partitions, you may try to shrink the volume. I don't have any experience with this so be careful, but it seems like to create more partitions, you would have to shrink and then format whats left over. Take caution with this action and backup your data -
Is Windows Backup trying to backup any extra files along with creating a system image? I know when I ran backup for the first time it wanted to backup C: drive or something and I had to tell it what I wanted it to backup. Maybe it's trying to backup some extra files along with create a system image.
Didn't you get a license key with the software? Is it downloaded software or is it software on a disc? If it's downloaded, you'll want to back it up so you won't have to re-download it. If it's got a license key with it, you should be alright to reinstall it without having to buy again, and you can always contact the company's support to find out how things might work out. If it was purchased from HP when you bought the computer, you might want to talk to them to see what you should do. -
Your only option is to make an image of some kind.
If you cant get the Windows backup utility, I would suggest you buy Macrium Reflect and use it to create a backup.
Macrium Reflect Backup and Hard Disk Imaging for Windows 7, Vista, XP and Server 2003/2008
Though, if you purchased all the software, why couldn't you reinstall? -
Hi Envy 14 beats owners,
Can anybody tell me how the "HP" logo with red color below the LCD screen looks ?. Does the red color hp logo distracts while working on laptop ?
Because when I am looking in the picture the logo looks very bright red color.
I just want your inputs.
Thanks in advance -
You could keep that cloth that came with it between the keys and screen maybe? I really don't know, but I have noticed that the row of keys on the right do seem to be either close to touching or are touching my screen too. Anybody got any ideas?

Is there a fix for the volume adjust animation exiting full screen programs?
-
I am a happy owner. I really like the computer, had it for nearly 4 months now and I still like it a lot.
Abyssmal is a better word for HP's support. They really can't help too much from my experience with them. Thank God Google has most of the answers to technical problems. Users in this forum have been pretty helpful too.
Apparently some people think that the Radiance Display is worth waiting for. I would probably have looked elsewhere if it had not been the high resolution display.
If they are for sure bringing back the High Res. Display soon, I would definitely wait. -
Only fix is to uninstall it (HP MediaSmart Smartmenu), and install 3RVX or something from the 1st page of the forum. It's under the Post Clean Install list. Best fix so far.

So I had my laptop plugged in with a HD cable to get the picture on a bigger monitor.
The screen on the envy being completely black, I now noticed marks/smudges on it that will not come off. I have only used appropriate cleaner on it, so I'm not sure where this would have come from...maybe from when its shut, the screen rests on the keys and gets oil on it?
Has anybody experienced this? I want to know if there's anything I can do to remedy this...Please Help! -
No, before you posted this I didn't actually notice it. Red is darker than white.

i remember someone saying something about sound output i couldnt find their post. But it was about having things like skype on say earphones while music plays on the laptop speakers... anybody know how to get all sounds through one output (skype + music through headphones)
-
Hello piercenkc,
Unfortunately I don't have a solution for you, but I too have some marks on the screen of my Envy which will not come off.
Are you certain that the marks have not been there the entire time that you have owned your Envy?
Personally, I noticed the marks on my Radiance screen the day that I got my Envy, but didn't worry over them simply because, as you said, they are not noticeable unless the screen is completely black or off.
I have not inquired as to why the marks might be there, but I am assuming they are the result of some part of the manufacturing process. Whether they are smudges on the inside of the screen or what I don't know. But I cannot feel them tactilely.
If someone else suggests a way to remove the marks, great. Otherwise my best advice to you would be just try to forget about them. It isn't a "fix" I know, but as you (I assume based on what you wrote) can only seem them when you aren't using the screen anyway, and as they don't at all effect the performance of your screen, I have little doubt that you, like me, will forget about them completely over time.
Hopefully someone else can give you a real "fix."
Good luck! -
I'm absolutely horrified by the lack of quality control at HP these days!
I bought an Envy 14 a few weeks ago and initially, it was fine. After a few days of use I noticed some small issues, including:
1. The screen not being aligned properly (top row of pixels were cut off by the bezel)
2. The aluminum trim and the top case weren't meeting up correctly by the right speaker and near the hinges.
3. The trackpad wouldn't always register movement properly, even with different drivers.
So, I took it back and exchanged it, and the second unit also had issues with the top case not being fitted properly, the bottom panel was loose (further investigation showed that one of the clips that hold the panel in place had broken off), and quite a bit of flex with the keyboard.
All I can say is, HP, ? For a $1200 machine you'd expect them to be put together a bit better... -
Hi SPNKr,
Thanks for your reply and providing information for my question.

I had stock 10.3 drivers installed. Today I downloaded 10.7 from hp support website and installed them. Everything worked fine except for one. After installation whenever I switch GPU from ati to intel, everything works fine except for when I launch any of my browsers it crashes instantly. I'm using firefox Beta 4 and IE9. And both use graphics hardware acceleration. This problem wasn't happening before. I also tried reinstalling 10.7 drivers but the problem persists. Any solution guys?

So i did shrank it and it said that only half of the space out of 450 GB can be used to create a new volume. So I made a new volume out of it. I wish I could have extracted some more space.zman420 said: ↑If you want to create several partitions, you may try to shrink the volume. My Radiance display replacement is once again delayed. I was hoping to get it back this week after 6 weeks on the bench but, alas, the new estimate is now December 6. And, I fully expect that date to slip, as well. So, those with radiance screens, be nice to your laptop and hope you never have to get it serviced.

Sorry you couldn't get enough space. The only other thing I could think of to do would be clean install and set up your partitions during the install.aaddaam said: ↑So i did shrank it and it said that only half of the space out of 450 GB can be used to create a new volume. That's terrible. Are they even telling you anything about the delay? Several people have recommended me the Sony Vaio Z. Its pricy and you will get alittle bit less for your money, but its high quality, light and nice screen makes up for it!zapete said: ↑Hey guys, I'm new here but I really need to vent. This laptop has been a complete disaster. Since I bought this laptop in Kuwait (it cost me roughly $2300), I've had nothing but problems with it. If any of you are curious, my model no. is 1099-ee. Upon inspecting my laptop, I found an inside smudge on the screen, damaged hinges almost like they've been scraped and a dreadful dead pixel. Of course being an "elite" laptop, I couldn't stand the thought of living with a dead pixel or a smudge or any sort of physical damage. So I contacted my service provider. At first, they agreed on replacing the screen but turns out, they're no longer offering the Infinity Radiance screen. They offered to replace my unit whole but again, no Infinity Radiance screen. I flat out refused because the reason I bought the Envy 14 in the first place was BECAUSE of it's Infinity Radiance screen. After arguing and fighting over the issue of the non-replaceable screen, they finally gave in and decided to refund me.
It's a shame that I couldn't be completely satisfied with this unique laptop. I really really love the screen but in the end, I just couldn't live with a dead pixel on an elite and an expensive laptop. Is there any laptop out there with the capabilities of the Envy 14 and it's amazing screen? Because after getting my money back, I'm planning on spending the money on another unit. Any suggestions for a $2300 price range? Thank you.Click to expand... -
I'm just curious, $2300 in what currency? 2300 Kuwaiti Dollars will get you pretty much anything won't it? Has anyone in here tried to remove dust from the inside of the screen ?? I know the operation kills my warranty, but that doesn't really matter..

It is quite easy, actually. The plastic shield simply snaps on around the screen. I had removed my to clean on the inside. You have to be extremely careful, however. I am not sure the net gain will be worth the risk unless you are extermely comfortable taking apart a notebook.champ5 said: ↑Has anyone in here tried to remove dust from the inside of the screen ?? Thank you for the suggestion. I will look into it. Question though. Did the Radiance Infinity screen completely vanish from being an option? Kuwait's currency is in Dinars or is abbreviated KWD. Yes, I converted to USD. has anyone successfully hooked up a 30" dvi monitor like dell 3007fp-hc or hp lp3065 to the envy 14 using an active minidisplayport->dvi adapter?
cause it ent working for me.
talked to hp support and they had no idea, but thought maybe a bios update would make it work eventually. however, I thought I'd heard of people successfully hooking 30" screens to this thing.
if not, I have to figure out if I should believe the support guy that a bios update will come out soon to fix it, or send it back before my return period runs out and get a macbook or something (ugh). ideas? -

In the newer drivers, HP removed hardware acceleration (supposedly to save battery life) -- which is why IE9 and WLM work with the old.aaddaam said: ↑amazing !! i just checked and my drivers are more recent compared to yours

Lol great. I thought hardware acceleration was future stuff since all both IE and FIREFOX beta are using it but hp seems to contradict with this notion. You have to use active adapter, not the passive one.Seggybop said: ↑has anyone successfully hooked up a 30" dvi monitor like dell 3007fp-hc or hp lp3065 to the envy 14 using an active minidisplayport->dvi adapter?

Screw that. I'm sticking with the old switchable graphics drivers. After a few hiccups for a month, it's working fine.
BTW, loving my Envy 14 in spite of minor cosmetic flaws. I've gotten used to the keyboard which seems to lead to fewer typos and the wifi card's the best. -

I took delivery of the ENVY14-1016TX very recently.
I tried to fresh install a Win7 (64bit) home but I found the below drivers are missing.
1. Wireless lan (6200AGN)
2. Power management driver/software
3. 3d drive guard software
Where I can get them?
I got an error installing the ethernet driver (I did not connect a lan cable during install) but it worked fine. -
I think i have seen a post on the first page or some page of this thread where MagusDraco has uploaded stock drivers on mediafire and provided the link.. you can msg MagusDraco and ask himcheungtsw said: ↑I took delivery of the ENVY14-1016TX very recently.

Although you could get the stock drivers somewhere, I would recommend installing the most recent versions of those drivers right off the bat.cheungtsw said: ↑I took delivery of the ENVY14-1016TX very recently.

You will find links to all of the latest versions of the drivers you seek on this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-drivers-software-forum/496027-drivers-hp-dm4-dv5-gen-2-g32-cq32-envy-14-intel.html
The compilation that justinkw1 and the rest of the frequent contributors over there have brought together is incredibly useful.
If you are for some reason hesitant to use the thread linked above you can always get drivers for your computer from http://www.hp.com/support. However, last I checked they do not have the driver for your Intel WiFi device on there (1. Wireless lan (6200AGN)). You can grab it from the links provided on the drivers thread I linked above or through a link on the first post of this thread. -

After doing a clean install, without first installing the previous Quick Launch stuff from the original SwSetup folder, has anyone installed the HP Quick Launch Software version 2.2.7 (2.2 A8) from file name sp50681.exe as downloaded from HP and had the Fn + Esc and Fn + B combinations work?
After my clean install I got all of my drivers from justinkw1's drivers thread and installed the HP Quick Launch Buttons driver listed there. He recently updated the thread to indicate that the Quick Launch Software version listed above was replacing the HP Quick Launch Buttons, but when I uninstalled my HP Quick Launch Buttons and installed HP Quick Launch Software, the Fn + Esc and Fn + B no longer did anything.
Based on a description in the HP Quick Launch Software installer I'm thinking that perhaps I need to first install the original Quick Launch files from my original SwSetup folder and then install the newest version on top, but haven't investigated it exhaustively.
I did a bit of searching but couldn't find anywhere that this specific question was asked previously. I am also aware that Fn + Esc only displays information easily found elsewhere and that Fn + B only changes the bass in audio settings, but regardless, I like them.
I was just wondering if anyone had had success with the Fn + Esc and Fn + B working from installing just the file mentioned above after a clean install of Windows.
Thanks! -

Upon further digging, I'm come to the realization that the Envy 14 with the Radiance Infinity screen is the perfect combination for my day-to-day events. It really blows that they're not offering the Radiance Infinity screen anymore. -
I'm looking into getting a refurbed Envy 14 with the Radiance screen from HP Business Outlet and was wondering if it plays games at the native 1600x900 fine. I mostly play Starcraft 2 and will probably pick up Black Ops and Diablo 3 eventually. Still debating between getting a new non-Radiance and a refurbed Radiance one. Similar prices for the two as well.
