hi, I live in Australia and am looking into the envy 14 series and i heard that there are two models? Im asking this because theres and Envy 14 1002tx (standard config) at my local store for AU$1248 which normally retails for AU$2299. However it does not state the model on the HP website.

My question is; Are there two models and is the 1002tx and older model?

    thanks in advance

Hi guys, just a quick question or two. Using HW Monitor, which temps are you able to monitor? I have my TZ00, TZ02 (whatever that is anyway lol), then I have Core #0 and Core #1 (I have i5) and finaly I have my GPU. I noticed a while back that a user (tr1p7s) was also able to monitor Assembly and Air Flow temperatures.

Oh and I'm sorry if I missed it but has anyone found a way of over volting the GPU to what it is meant to be?

    Cheers

I also live in Aust. I'm not sure if that is the old model but judging from the price I would say it is. I saw the envy 14 in a few shops in Aust and it was ridiculously over-priced. I saw a envy 14 for $1200 I think it was and i asked the guy at the shop if it was the old model and he said yes (which is why it was so cheap). That being said, I have one of the first Envy 14 models and I don't see anything wrong with it at all.
And I also have the 1600x900 radiance screen which I am so glad I have (dont think you can get it anymore).
The temps are also great. Overclocked I get low 80s for CPU and high 60s to low 70s for the GPU (and this is after hours of gaming).

So really it's up to you. I would ask if it has the radiance screen :D If it does then I would probably get it. Unless you want a more recent model for whatever reason.

It also depends on the specs it has. If it has an i3 and the smallest HDD possible then it would be better to get it from HP. I got mine via ebay with i5-450m, 1600x900 radiance screen and 160GB SSD for $1400.

hope this helped a bit somehow lol. I guess the thing I wanted to really say is that I don't see anything wrong with the old models.

I own the HP Envy 1113TX Beats and was wondering if it is possible to install a SSD?

Also, a few keys in the top left corner (esc, f1, `) are not as bright when the back light is enabled? Does anyone else have this issue?

    Short: Yes and Yes

It's no problem to install a SSD. You just need to make sure you have the lastest bios if you have a broadcom wifi card, as it will go into a deep sleep mode, which can be disabled in the newer bios.

You just need to backup your original Windows licence, before swapping drives so you can restore it on the new drive.

Sounds like something HP should take care of, though from what people have experienced on here, you may want to try to have it repaired locally if they can do it. HP doesn't seem to be too efficient in the way of support and repairs.

Yeah, my backlight is kind of like that too. Some places are brighter than others.

On a side note, has anyone been able to get BIOS version f.23 to install? It just keeps freezing my computer before it flashes and I have to remove the battery to get it to turn off.

OK, I got BIOS f.23 to install.
    1. Download HP Software Framework under software solutions
    2. Download HP Diagnostic Utility from their website
    3. Download HP BIOS Update Utility from their website
    4. Install HP Software Framework
    5. Install HP Diagnostic Utility to a FAT 32 formatted USB thumb drive or SD Card (When it asks to create the partition say yes so it will name the drive HP_TOOLS)
    6. Install HP BIOS Update Utility to the same FAT 32 formatted USB thumb Drive or SD Card
    7. Run Insyde Flash Utility and your computer should reboot.
    8. Press enter when the computer asks about updating BIOS
    9. Wait until the computer finishes installing, verifying and rebooting and you are done.

I am on a clean install, so this should work for anyone I would hope.

Dunno, I haven't been using it for long. It said something about fixing when the WWAN is disconnected or powered down when resuming from hibernate or something like that. I am just hoping that maybe they inadvertently fixed some of the other issues with hibernate that I have been having.

    hey everyone,

i received my envy beats 14 today. i started charging it 6 and a half hours ago, and the white light is still blinking. if it's fully charged the light shouldn't blink at all right? also, if i turn it on before its charged fully will it affect the battery's performance in the long run even if its plugged into AC?

I don't know what happens with the battery if you turn it on before it's charged, but I think some people have taken the battery out and put it back in and gotten the light to stop blinking and say it's charging.

Yeah I kinda noticed that recently my fan started to cycle rather frequently. It was never this way when I first received it.. gets kinda annoying when you're trying to memorize the textbook.. zzz

zman420, after updating to f.23 are you still getting these cyclings?

I've never really noticed cycling fans too much because my old laptops fan was so loud and theres always backgroud noise when I'm using it. You could try out the update to see if it gets the fan to work.

If the Beats Edition is anything like the regular Envy 14, you should be able to install an HDD/SSD just by removing the battery cover and a few screws. If you are trying to convert the DVD Drive, then I'm not sure if that is possible with the Beats Edition unless someone else has already done it.

Just a heads up to all of you.

ATi / AMD has released Catalyst 10.12 if you're interested.
    Downloads

This might break stuff, but seeing the preview, the driver pages look easier to navigate.

Mind you it seems this is still a Preview Catalyst driver. So (as usual though) download at your own risk!!!

EDIT: Okay, it just isn't worth the trouble. I tried installing it and checked the ATi Catalyst version, and it was stuck on 10.10. Also, the brightness keys stopped working... I'll wait until a proper version comes out.

Okay I jsut did a clean install with my Envy 14 beats, and I have got nearly everything working almost perfectly(Even the touch pad!!! on how i want it)
    However.....
Alright attempted to look for most of the answers on the forum search and hand looking... but to no real avail....

    1. fn+esc and fn+B not working..... I installed the driver for the fn+esc, provided on the HP site however still doesn't work?

    2. Which app/program thing allows that "fence" (double click empty space in desktop to hide icons)

    3. Beat's software/driver/whachamacallit?

    4. Retrieve Adobe Elements serial key??

Thanks a lot for any help!!!~

I have no idea whats happening but all of a sudden I am able to overclock to 545/895 no problem at all. The temps got to 72 which is a lot higher than before but it still runs perfectly. Before I couldn't even get to 550/800.

    1. I am not really sure whats wrong, someone else was having difficulties getting it to work several pages back.

    2. Not really sure, you might want to check on the first page under reinstall HP Theme

    3. HP Tone Control is the Beats skin. IDT audio is the actual audio driver.

    4. Not to sure, maybe see what Adobe can tell you.

Hey guys, so my roomates spilled some juice on my keyboard and a couple (left windows key, and left shift) are sticky and somewhat clicky...

Now I have the radiance envy 14 and after doing some research here, it seems that the "repair" I will get back will probably be MORE damaged and perhaps have its radiance screen removed with a brightview replacing it...

Thus, I am very hesitant to send it in even though I bought the warranty.

Now what are my chances to fix this little keyboard issue?

PS. someone dented my laptop screen (outside) and I was wondering how I could fix it.

It seems that now my best bet is to fix these problems with parts myself?

Heh... Found it to be because I updated the BIOS before hand and it Enabled the functions keys... So I just needed to press F3 and F2 to reduce the brightness. Changed it back and it works now.

Damned BIOS updates, why can't they keep the previous settings intact after updates?!

Anyway, anyone have any luck with the 10.12? I am not brave enough to try it out again myself, and seeing as its Preview I'm too reluctant to give a green light.

I would suggest you fix this by yourself. They won't notice that you have opened the computer ( real experience ). The keyboard costs around 80$ so its not that expensive. No problem man. Look in page 1: service manual. Remove the top cover, the keyboard, to replace it. Just get a topcover/keyboard from a part store. Search for the part number you'll find in the manual. Done it before two times. Just ask.

I had the same problem with mine a few days ago (specifically orange juice).

I basically sprayed the sticky keys with isopropanol and then pried them up a little and blasted them with compressed air. Took a few times and now they work perfectly.

    Thanks for the reply guys...

    But

    1) I thought the top cover / radiance screen were one unit together?
I was looking through the manual and it seems that when I replace the top, I am also replacing the screen.
An of course, replacing a radiance screen with another one is a big task now.

    2) Regarding spraying things on the keyboard and propping the 2 sticky keys up..I heard that the keys were really fragile and could break easily.

I've heard stories of people tryign to clean it by propping them up but now the keys are just super clicky (something probably got damaged).
Any tips or procedures to fix this keyboard issue?

    Hello dexta,

Don't worry about asking questions. I too was new to the whole fresh install procedure when I got my Envy. The community around here is very helpful.

Yes, after a clean install of Windows it is very easy to reinstall the drivers. In my opinion it is well worth the trouble.

This guide by v3loc1ty2.0 ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-compaq/432564-hp-laptop-out-box-guide-2-0-windows-7-a.html) will lead you through every step of the process, from dowloading a free and legal clean version of Windows 7 to installing the drivers, etc. Just follow this guide closely and thoroughly, follow all of the links provided in this guide closely and thoroughly, and you will soon have an Envy 14 free of all of the HP bloatware.

    Good luck!

F.23 seems to fix the ACPI errors reported by Windows 7's powercfg utility and should fix some other power management wonkiness as well.

anyone tried to install the new ATI CCC and drivers 10.12?

I've tried to install it, apparently its working but it won't install the CCC for some reasons.. I tried different packages, and I tried installing the software individually, still it won't bring the CCC.

Also, when I try to switch the cards, it only works when I unplug the power cable, it switch it automatically.

    any thoughts?

Nope, no Norton here. Not sure you would want it anyway (just my opinion and I hear its a PITA to remove).

MSE is great because it is up to date, has a small footprint and stays out of the way (doesn't alert you for unnecessary things).

If you are on Comcast, you can get Norton for free if you prefer.

The newer Envys are coming with MSE pre-installed? That's interesting. When I got mine a few months ago it came with a Norton trial, which I promptly removed while preparing to clean format and then of course left off after the fresh install of Windows 7. I've been using AVG Free for years. No complaints.

Does anyone know where to find a 6-cell slice for a reasonable price? Its still listed as $159 on HP's site, which is not worth it to me :/

Does anybody happen to know if the "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems" is truly beneficial for my laptop or is it just bloatware? It seems that I get that every month and I kept updating, hence more space is further taken up. I was wondering if I could delete the old ones now that I have this new update?

    Thanks guys.

Anybody else had the problem where the computer won't restart right? I didn't notice until the updates yesterday, but I can't restart my computer properly. It shuts down fine, but if I restart it gets hung up at the HP screen.
