Hmmm, that's impressive, I've read that SSD can add up to an hour of battery life but I don't think I've ever actually seen somebody post about their results. good to know!

    Hi guys, first post here.

I bought a new E14 1190eo after christmas and I've experienced a few problems with it already... I reinstalled windows 7 64 a few days ago (legit windows), but now my Wireless card is gone. I've tried to install new drivers both manually and automatic from hps and intels website. Is it even an intel card? Can't seem to find any info about it.

The other problem I noticed were yesterday night when I came home. I had left the computer on all night and it sounded like an airplane ready to explode. No programs were on except utorrent and when I felt the backside of it I almost burned myself, that's how hot it was.

Any help is greatly appreciated, especially with the wireless card.

Edit: Tried the sleep-mode fix that would work for ethernet, didnt work. Also I now know why the computer was all noisy, it's because the fans go crazy when it hits sleep mode... Damn I'm starting to wonder how many more weird problems I will discover.

I guess so. I'll write here again if they fixed it.

A total noob question regarding the radiance display; I can't send my new Envy to HP and upgrade to a radiance display, right? It needs to already have one which is broken or something i guess?

    Huggab0y,

it was known before that the HP repair people would swap your radiance for a brightview so that's why I hesistated to send mine in.

However, I'm not sure about this new situation, just because they released radiance screens on the envy 14's

Yes, it's back. But for a $200 upgrade.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were found to be true that HP reps scoured NBR HP threads for price researching. A lot of people here blurted out that they'd willingly shell $200 for it.

Definitely worth it though, the Radiance display has to be the *best* laptop display I've ever used. For a TN panel, it has colours which are incredibly vivid and comparable to high end IPS panels.

If the manufacturer of these displays has gone out of business, where would HP be sourcing these new ones?

iNo one knows for sure that they even went out of business but i'm sure it would be fairly easy for a laptop screen manufacturer to make a screen that has already been made. (I'm sure HP supplied the exact specifics involved in producing the screen from the previous manufacturer).

    Discount code: NB5321

Spec it to 1299~ and then apply that code. If I could use my EPP also I'd have it for $999 but i can't use both.

Hey guys, I have a quick question as I'm getting ready to order an Envy 14. I know I don't want a i7 quad core b/c of heat and battery life issues, but I was wondering about differences between the other i5 processors. From my understanding, it seems that the speed differential is minor between the i5-460M, i5-480M, I5-560M, and i5-580M (correct me if I'm wrong) whether it be for gaming, encoding, or any basic business activities.

Ignoring any price differences ($$$ is not a factor), are there any other considerations to take into account between these 4 processor choices? For example, is there any noticeable heat production difference between the i5-580M or i5-480M? Anything else that I should take into consideration when deciding between these processors?

Hey I have a problem with my envy 14's bluetooth. I uninstalled the HP wireless assistant program because I know it's considered unnecessary to have it. But I think I turned off bluetooth while keeping my wireless card active before uninstalling the program. I knew I will be rarely using the bluetooth.

But now everytime I turn on my laptop, an error message saying something like "can't start bluetooth stack service" pops up and I have to click ok to get rid of the message. It's annoying to have to do every single time I turn on the computer. I thought that maybe I can turn on bluetooth or set it to default settings to remedy this, but I don't even know how to access the bluetooth settings with the HP wireless assistant.

Does anybody know what I can do? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I can't decide if I should return my Envy 14 to get one with radiance..I don't watch much HD movies so how much of a difference would it make for just web browsing and word processing? Im pretty happy with the brightview as it is..would it be better to invest in an SSD instead?

If your happy with it then put the $ somewhere else. SSD will give you more battery life and faster load times, Radiance gives you a better screen, decide which you value more and go from there. (On a side note I just ordered an envy 14 :) )

That's funny that you mentioned Internet Explorer. I remember when I first noticed the trackpad problem I also noticed it was when I had IE open. I rarely use IE so I forgot that that was what seemed to cause it. I think I did have IE open again recently when I posted about the trackpad issue occurring again. I think I even posted about the trackpad issue being related to IE back then in one of the threads here.

Even I got mine around Dec 7th and I returned it today for an exchange with Radiance screen for the same amount I paid. This time I used a $500 coupon NBK4267893. If you are interested in exchange go ahead while the coupon lasts. Note - it needs to be $1399 or more for coupon to work.

meetleo09, man ... you totally rock !!! I cannot find this coupon anywhere, but it works !!! I am amazed... where did you find it ?

    I just used it to get : Radiance + i5-580 + 2nd battery + 1 dimm 4 gb.

My story is that I used a $500 coupon in early january to get an i7 + 6gb + 640 gb HDD and Brightview display. I then realized that the i7 doesn't have swichtable graphics, which got me pissed at myself for doing proper research.
Then a day after receiving it HP offers the radiance again!! But for +$200 with no real good coupon (only a $200 one) so I wasn't sure. Then you show up with that awesome coupon ... Thanks man !!!

My only worry I hope this one will be as problem-free as the i7 I got, which I have to sell or return ...

No worries :) .. I hope more and more people could make use of it since the Radiance is back .. on the other note, my earlier laptop was an i7 which gave me around 2:45 min battery life .. I did lots of thought processing to go with i5 or to stay with i7 .. only piece I was worried about is the issues with switchable graphics and i7 has had no problems so far .. so I stuck to i7 this time ..

Alright so this is just weird. I've messed around with MSI Afterburner and was able to OC my GPU up to a maximum of 585 for the core clock. Yesterday for some reason I was able to OC it well past that, and today when I booted up my computer it's stuck at a maximum of 585 again. What gives?

I created another topic elsewhere, but decided to move it here where the expert hang out.

I just got my Envy14 a couple of days ago. I did all the backups and a clean install of Win7x64. In the course of installing the drivers, I got to the BIOS update. My laptop has the 02 BIOS, so I figured an update would be a good thing. The problem is that every time I try to run the InsydeFlash application, it locks up my Envy. It locks up when it gets to the screen that says, "Are you sure you want to do this? And says, "Don't unplug, don't close, don't shut off, etc." I have the option to click OK or Cancel, but the machine stops responding. The touchpad doesn't work, the keyboard doesn't work, even the power button doesn't work. I tried making a HP_Tools directory on an USB drive and copying the data to it. When it locks up, the machine no longer recognizes the USB drive. I've got an old Sandisk Cruzer with an LED on it. The LED goes out as if it were unmounted.

I checked the .ini file and it's already set to All=1. I even repartitioned my HDD to add a HP_Tools partition (fat32) to the HDD. Didn't change the response.

    Any suggestions?

If you're trying to update to the latest (F.23) BIOS then try this method For some reason many people have been having the same problem when trying to upgrade to this BIOS version. If you use this method you don't even need the HP_TOOLS partition.

meetleo09, my i7 is pristine too, no problems whatsoever, I often get over 2h45 on battery as well (with light Chrome browsing and some windows tweaking). But I need longer battery life and wanted that radiance, so your coupon came just at the right time.

Moreover Sandy bridge doesnt seem to bring that much improvement anyway, and it will not be discounted for a while.

EDIT : my BIOS updated flawlessly just by loading HP's app ... it rebooted, did its thing and restarted again, no problems at all ...

What do you see when you go to Control Panel>Device Manager>Bluetooth Radios>Broadcom 2070 Bluetooth>right-click on properties. If the device is disabled you may need to click Enable. You could also try uninstalling the Bluetooth driver then reinstalling it from the HP Drivers page.

The easiest way to change the Bluetooth settings is to right-click the bluetooth icon on the taskbar and click 'Open Settings'. If there's no Bluetooth icon in the taskbar you can get it there by typing 'bluetooth' in the 'Search programs and files' box when you click the 'Windows' icon, then select 'Change Bluetooth settings' from the list, then check the box marked 'Show the Bluetooth icon in the notification area'.

I'm also not running the HP Wireless Assistant (after a clean install) and haven't had any problems controlling bluetooth. I don't use it very often so I just disable/enable the adapter when I want to turn it off or on [right-click the taskbar bluetooth icon and click 'Turn Adapter Off/On'].

Thanks! I've searched the forum multiple times, and always somehow missed that thread. That fixed it!

    copy pasta from slickdeals:

    HP Envy 14 - $500 off $1399 - Radiance Screen in Stock!
A great thing just happened recently: The long out-of-stock and eagerly awaited Envy 14 Radiance screen became available.

And that just got even better now that HP released a $500 off $1399 coupon: NBK4267893
    Expiration: After 1800 uses

    1. Visit www.shopping.hp.com [hp.com]
    2. Configure an Envy 14 to $1399 or higher (don't forget to upgrade to Radiance screen)
    3. Apply coupon
    4. Check out :)

Current estimate ship time is February 1, 2010.

NOTE: Sandy Bridge will be likely become widely available around February/March. I suspect HP will be releasing a refresh of the Envy line around that time. This is still a great deal because such a discount will not be available at that point.

    Hi everyone,

I am new here. I just ordered my envy today with the $500 HP coupon and it is scheduled to be built on Feb 1. I was considering upgrading to an SSD from the 500gb 7200rpm drive the unit will come with and wanted everyone's opinion on the SSD that HP packs in the ENVY versus other SSDs on the market.

I was also very interested to learn how to do a clean install of Windows when my ENVY arrives. Are there any "how-to" guides and such in these forums?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Clean Install Windows 7 - How To Perform a Clean Installation of Windows 7 - Part 1 of 3 for the clean install, as far as the SSD, I'm sure you can get one of equal quality for cheaper ordering from somewhere like tigerdirect and newegg.
