i would just make them just in case, what if your hard drive fails or gets wiped somehow? i mean, it takes a while, but most of the time you can just let it sit and come back in an hour and put in the next disc

Bah 7? ...ugh...what is the burn time? Half an hour per disk? What a pain...why did they remove the option to buy pre-made discs...

So, I just ordered my new HP Envy 14. But I didn't have them preinstall windows 7 pro as I already have a copy. Does windows anytime upgrade work?

Also, how bit is the restore partition?

It seems like right now its about 30-40 mins a disc. This is THE slowest I have ever burned a DVD. Theres no reason it should be going this slow..

If that's in response to the link, it's about HP purposely "undervolting" the 5650 in the Envy for some reason or another...

Depends. If it is MSDN or OEM, the upgrade won' work. It HAS to be Retail.

Could someone else post their temps after doing something graphics intensive? I checked my fan and it's spinning, no dust to be seen, so now I'm wondering if maybe I just panicked. I'm using the newest graphics drivers btw, including the hotfix.

Maybe it's my voltage? No idea how it got to 1V in the first place but it's def running too hot right now.

Did you download the ATI Catalyst package from ATI or from HP? Many people have reported that the most current ATI drivers on ATI's site don't work with switchable graphics and that only the older ATI drivers on the HP site will allow you to switch. I had the same problem after installing the newest drivers and had to completely uninstall those and then install the older drivers from HP.

Aaargh - I did the exact same thing but wasn't able to switch. Now I may have to try it again.

My brightness controls worked fine with 11.1 - I just couldn't switch graphics.

Do you mean the download Individual Download > Catalyst Control Center?

That just gives you the updated center doesn't it? And not the new drivers? o_O

Edit; I love that every post I make goes on a new page.... >_<

If you go to look at the driver version, I am guessing it doesn't say 11.1, right? (you only updated the catalyst control center)

So, I'm finally receiving mine tonight... I bought from Amazon around a month ago, a friend who lives in the US is bringing it to me :). Too bad I didn't get Radiance (sad thing is: I could afford it), but hell, I'm dying to get the darn thing already!!.

I'm thinking of taking high quality (read: DSLR) pics comparing it to my older DV5 screen and a 2008 MBP15 from a guy on my office. The BV should be inferior to the latter, but I think it's an interesting comparison. We'll see how it goes!

The wait is over, finally! :D

How do I get the screen brightness OSD's back? I uninstalled a bunch of the HP software. Lost the volume OSD, but I installed the 3VDX program that is linked in the first post.

Are you able to overclock more than before?

The i7 Envy has a higher-voltage 5650, and it's able to get 550/800 stable, easily.

No, it's actually pretty rubbish. I can get 500/800 but it crashes if I go higher. But OCing isn't my concern right now, it's the high temps. It lags whenever there's a lot of stuff on the screen these days.

According to HP envy support (which I waited 35min on hold for) Photoshop and Premiere don't ship with envys.

10 min of arguing. Ohhh they do come with envy's but it's only the trial versions. He was 100% positive (and 100% wrong).

When you find out how, let me know.

The concensus is to backup your Swsetup folder and reinstall the both programs from there. Problem is that the serial is not located any where and you need it to fully activate. I tried to activate mine online before I performed my fresh install and it didn't help at all. It's still asking me for serials

Then maybe HWMonitor is misreporting the voltages.

If people really wanted, I could upload the original HP DVD backup disks (ordered extra with my laptop), I think it has the Adobe stuff on it...

Edit: OK, found the installer files. Downloading the WAIK so I can use ImageX to extract them.
