Not sure how you're trying to connect. You can only tether your iPhone to your Envy using either Bluetooth or a USB sync cable. As long as you have tethering turned on in your iPhone settings, it should connect automatically once you connect via the sync cable. If you want to do it via Bluetooth, you need to go to your Bluetooth devices and "connect to" the iPhone as an "access point" and then it should work.

well I think windows gets really confused by the dual battery (even if you don't have one, the option for two batteries messes stuff up) -
I think you have to have both batteries connected in order for WIndows to report the time.

so hp keeps delaying the repair of my laptop because of a "backordered part". i know its the radiance screen but they wont admit that and start offering me some solutions. all they do is keep pushing it back 2 weeks. i have tried calling over and over again trying to reach someone who isnt retarded and can actually help me. they keep assuring me a case manager will call me in the next 48 hours and weeks will go by and no call. i honestly dont think its possible for them to deal with this any worse
-
Sorry to hear that.
I had my own share of repair nightmares. I really wish they'd up the quality of care. It would make me more confident about my 1-year warranty with them and less fearful of waiting for my Square Trade warranty to kick in during the 2nd year and onward.

Does anyone know how to get on screen display of the brightness very similar to 3RVX? I uninstalled all the HP bloatware and now I dont know a good alternative
-
I went through a similar ordeal. How new is your Envy? Mine was brand new and after the 3rd delay I got them to just replace it with a brand new one under something they called their "Buy Back" program - they said that because my unit was less than X days old (I don't remember the number) they could do that for me.
-
ive had mine since like august so i dont think theyll just replace it. if i can ever get a hold of a case manager im going to demand a refund and take my money elsewhere.

Hey all - I'm having some funky issues with my newest Envy 14. I was attempting to just delete the bloatware using the guide in the OP. I installed Revo Uninstaller and started going to town based on the list in the HP forum here on NBR.
Now my sound does not work, neither the jacks nor the speakers. I also can't change my USB mouse settings: I get an explorer.exe "Class not registered" error. Also, when I connect to a wireless network, windows indicates that I'm not connected even though I can browse as normal.
Did I just completely botch my PC while attempting to Revo uninstall bloatware? I may have to use my recover disks *sigh*. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
revo broke windows probably.
it can do that if you don't watch out (by uninstalling stuff you aren't supposed to).
you can either clean install or just use the recovery disks (minimal recovery if you want to skip most of the bloat) -
Ya - I can't even change the time as my computer is telling me I'm not the administrator
I'll look into doing a minimal recovery, I'm guessing I can get info on that from HP's website?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
do you still have the recovery partition?
hit esc on boot, pick system recovery, pick minimal install.
if no recovery partition do that still (I think) but have recovery disc 1 in the drive.
or instead boot from cd on disc 1 (I've never had to use my recovery discs) -
Thanks MagusDraco! This is a huge help. Can't believe I broke windows!

Hey guys, need some help on this one. Starting a few hours ago I've been getting an error:
It would pop up randomly, but I thought nothing of it since everything was still working fine. HOWEVER, now my speakers don't work. Any suggestions?
Cheers! -
Speaking of broken Windows, I just uninstalled Internet Explorer 8 and I am extremely surprised by the boost in performance I have gotten. I kept thinking something was wrong with my internet speed, kept tweaking, still I never could get flash video to play without stuttering. Installed Google Chrome, and now animations, videos and most webpages load without stuttering. The only thing that bugs me is the timeout error 7 (err_Time_out) and I have to reload the page a few times to get it to load. Bottom line, IE is garbage from a performance standpoint, and it appears as though it was slowing the entire Operating System down.
-
That is some kind of application error. You could maybe check your Event Viewer under administrative tools to see if a specific application is mentioned as having the problem. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling your sound driver and HP Tone Control to see if that gets your speakers back.

ie8 chugs a lot on any computer I've used it on.
apparently ie9 is better but it's in beta and several places that I use require ie8 (and probably will freak out if I use ie9 right now).
also the ie9 beta apparently overwrites ie8 (or did at one point) -
It still does and I'm using the RC version.
-
Hmmm, not sure I understand....but what does it mean to
break Windows? Does it mean you accidentally deleted a critical file and now Windows cannot function properly?

You hit the nail on the head! That's exactly what it means to break the Windows.

Hey guys have any of you encountered a problem like mine and know how to fix this?
There's this spot at the top left around 8cm from the top, and 10cm from the left. It looks a little darker than the rest of the screen. When I tilt the screen, it looks lighter than the rest of the screen. By any chance is my screen damaged?
Switching graphics card doesn't solve the problem either.. It's not exactly a dead pixel where the colour is messed up; it's more like the color is just slightly darker than the rest..
I contact HP and they advised that I did a reset to factory settings. Do you think that will have any chance of solving my problem at all? I'm now in the midst of my mid-terms and I bring my laptop everywhere I go, since it contains my textbooks. It's really indispensable in my daily life and so I can't imagine going for weeks without it.
Any advices? I really appreciate them thanks in advance! -
You should post some photos of the screen so people can see what you're talking about. Judging by the sound of it though, no a factory reformat will not fix a busted screen. I have had a Net Book recently have a similar phenomenon. All around the edge of the screen it looks a little bit darker. I really can't say what it is, because it's not dead pixels, just slightly off color pixels. I've wondered if something didn't get spilled into it, or maybe moisture got up under the screen and stained it. I haven't ever seen another screen do the same.
A better way to test out whether it may be a specific Windows problem would be to boot an Ubuntu CD and see if another OS exhibits the same problem. -
I got my refurb Envy 14 with Radiance and I notice that the dvd drive is extremely loud and causes the laptop to shake quite a bit. The drive is a GS20N (I know that GS30N and UJ897 also exist for the Envy 14). Is this common for this drive? Is the drive just old? Can I replace it with a new one?
