Sooo windows activate is popping up. Telling me to type in my key.
Where is my product key? Its not on the box, its not on the laptop.
I used magic bean to get the key out of my registry, but it says "that is a default key, please enter another key and try again".

    Stupid windows.

Alright, think I got all the drivers installed from my swsetup disc. Is there any quick way to double check if everything installed correctly besides manually going through system information or testing everything manually?

@Skwiggler are you doing a clean install or is it just popping up out of the blue? If its a new install, there was a way to backup the activation information so you could activate it after the install is complete. If its just out of the blue, thats random and I've never heard of that happening before.

@skwiggler, it may or may not be underneath your battery

I had my hands on one for a while, its somewhere in the open-able compartment on the bottom, I remember seeing it when I went in there.

(my next one is on order, but isn't here yet so, this isn't fosho)

Thanks for the info. These get some nice reviews, and that is definitely a great price. I placed my order a couple of hours ago, and the coupon was still good. With tax, $76.02 shipped. They are out of stock right now, but they don't charge you until they actually ship.

Having some issues. If anyone could help I would be grateful. Anyways, I followed the directions of the fresh install. I made the 4 HP recovery disks, A SwSetup disk, and the ISO Windows 7 x64. It installed and I updated windows. I was going to update drivers but my computer is acting crazy now. It basically will either get to the boot screen and freeze ( I can still hear it loading though in the the background). Or it will start to check file system on C: (File system is NTFS) THen is says error code (766f6c756d652e63) and at the same time I can hear the background loading noise. How do I fix this? Is there a way to boot from disk because it is not reconizing the disk when I turn it on. Help!

Sounds like corupted files. You could run a repair the Windows install disc check error 766f6c756d652e63 3f1 or reformat and try again. Im not sure what caused it though, Windows Update or a bad install from a bad disc in the first place.

You need to hold/press ESC when rebooting in the BIOS to get into the BIOS settings and then set the BIOS to give you time to select the boot media during next restart at BIOS screen by using [F8] I think. I hope this is what you meant.

I received the Envy 14 yesterday.

But I was a little scared to open it after i read bunch of complains in this forum. Something like CPU whine, GPU underclock/undervoltage, Fan noise, and etc.

Can I still return my envy 14 if I open the box?

    Of course.

You have 21 days after the delivery date of your Envy to return it if you're dissatisfied.

As long as you don't break anything, you should be fine.

I just realized that I flashed my BIOS to F.02 from the default F.05A (2nd batch E14)! Well, dont know why the flash utility allow me to downgrade BIOS. The F05A should be down loadable soon then I supposed.

PS:The Bluetooth is Broadcom right? Can someone confirm this? The only problem I experience so far is the whining in quiet room issue. Will take a look on the scratch on the screen later on.

I think that would essentially accomplish the same thing as just formatting.
This is when it boots from the DVD or trying to boot into Windows?

When I tried to boot the Windows 7 ISO disk it started to load the files and then just went blank
Now I'm trying the HP recovery disks

    +1, same here.
According to the poll ~63% were "lucky" and said their E14 was in "Great/Perfect Condition" along with ~20% reporting "Small imperfections". So that is ~83% not needing to RMA.
