I personally don't have that problem, no
Can some kind soul tell me what the following programs are:
HP 3D DriveGuard
HP DVB-T TV Tuner
HP Quick Launcher
HP Software Framework
Im pretty sure I don't need or want any of them but I just want to make certain. Cheers
-
uh oh faulty usbs?? i hope not. i'll test out a diff flash drive or something in all of the ports...
i only know the 3d driveguard is for your HDD. you know how the disc is spinning? when your laptop falls, it'll detect the fall and protect your HDD. -
Could it be something dodgy on the USB peripheral that you are using? Rather than the USB port itself, is it the same in every port?
It's a good job I asked about those programs then, that 3D DriveGuard is a keeper -
I have 2 Envys. The USB Ports are seriously tight... all of them.
-
Similar problem. I just got this laptop a few hours ago, and I can't get the simple scrolling to work. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but can't figure it out.

GUYS I'm planning on getting a 80gb SSD to my envy when it gets here, but for some additional storage (music etc.. thing that dont demand excessive bandwitdh) i'm planning on buying a 32 gb sd card to keep always plugged in, so two questions:
1- when the sd card is plugged does it get completely inside the computer? or does a bit of it stay out?
2- does the envy reader accept sdhc cards?
PS: sorry for the lousy english -
1. Yes it sticks out. about .1 cm
2. I use an 8gb SD. anything over 4 gb is consider to be SDHC so yes, it can read SDHC -
Hey guys,
Just got my 3rd envy 14 after having to RMA the first two...I think I finally got a keeper! Only real issue is substantial keyboard flex around letter P.
I did a minimal recovery and am now looking to optimize the touchpad functionality. I like to surf with my thumb resting on the left click, but that gets in the way with this touchpad. Is there anyway to make the left and right click areas a dead space so that touching them does not get in the way of the cursor?
I remember reading about some google code, but some said not to use it...
Should I just use some synaptics software on my computer? If so, where is it?
ANy help is appreciated as I didn't see anything about this on the 1st page -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
that flex is normal.
keyboard is built a bit weird. you can live with it.
and no you can't make 'em a deadspace unless you write some custom drivers (and doing stuff with the sdk and making a program was a no go people found out). -
Thanks! Yeah, I'm not too worried about the flex, as it is only apparent if you mash on the keyboard and not during regular typing.
So, where do I go to adjust the touchpad within the computer? Isn't there a way to do "smooth scrolling" and stuff like that? Sorry, I'm a computer noob -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
you got two options for smooth scrolling...ok 4 technically.
throughout the touchpad thread there's a few programs. twofingerscroll has smooth scrolling and someone made an envy version. it can do two/three finger taps for left, right click, whatever.
it also is a bit buggy for me and somehow I keep going back on pages. Not sure why it does that when all I have is two finger scrolling on (none of the right/left click stuff). oh well.
then there's a couple other apps people made. Reil's is the one I need to try out someday (again in that thread somewhere, near page 11 if you display 30 posts per page I think)
your 4th option is to set your scroll wheel scroll 1 line per spin (instead of 3). 'course then using an actual mouse wheel is kinda annoying. -
oh...hmm alright i guess i'll just have to be roughly careful, haha.
for the smooth scrolling, how well does the google code work vs the synaptics?
and multitouch gestures are configured in synaptics right? -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
multitouch gestures are in synaptics, and then I guess there's scrybe for more stuff if you wanna use it.
smooth scrolling looks better/probably works better in the google code one.
it may work the best in reil but I'm not sure. google code (and some other combination of synaptics settings maybe) keeps somehow making me hit the back button. no clue unless it's some weird double tap drag thing that's having unforeseen issues. -
HOw do I actually navigate to the synaptics options on my laptop? I cannot find anywhere where I can acutally make these changes?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
get to your mouse settings. Then go to the far right and then click on the synaptics device and go hit the settings button.
-
Where do I find the serial number on my laptop? And does any1 know the part #?
*edit*: post # 400 (for me)
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
product and other # is in hp support assistant and in the fn+esc thing from your hpquicklaunch file
-
if you've ever used a MBP touchpad its one of the best. With my settings it comes pretty close to it. I use a combination of reil's/synaptic with firefox. The google smooth scrolling is buggy so I use reils. I use reil's for 2 finger tap for right click. I disable 1 finger on reils. I then use 3 finger swipe on the synaptic. I also set firefox to allow smooth scrolling.
-
Some people reporting the same thing, but I plugged USB devices on all 3 ports and dont seems to experiencing USB devices is hard to pulled out.
PS:For CTO E14, which support page do we select?
HP ENVY 14t-1000 CTO Notebook PC
Or?
HP ENVY 14t-1100 CTO Notebook PC
What is the difference? -
Seriously, I have a little novelty business-card sized USB drive (the actual drive flips out from the thing) and it's maybe a millimeter too thick to fit into the Envy's ports. A USB hub is a good workaround though.
-
what's the difference with HP webcam and HP web camera filter?
-
fn+esc OR look under your battery.
-
i ended up using a combination of synaptics, google code, and smooth scrolling for chrome. it's not perfect, but i'm satisfied =P.
-
That's a bug in the program. I've experienced it while working on my shot at a touchpad program; it happens when you send two different inputs at the same time (which is usually a program issue, NOT a user issue). It doesn't seem to do that for all inputs. What I know does do some weird things (like triggering the back button) is sending both a vertical and a horizontal scrolling data at the same time, which I'm pretty sure is what causes your issue there.
Unfortunately the only way to fix that behavior is to fix the bug in the app, change apps to one that doesn't have that problem or scroll *real* straight
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
does Reil's program not do that? 'cause hell I'll just use Reil's version then. been meaning to try it out.
otherwise...well...I guess I could turn off the sideway scroll (I have one finger sideway scrolling setup 'cause...yeah) -
hey this is weird. when i try dling certain things, my wifi breaks and when i click trouble shoot, it says turn wireless on when it's obviously on. what gives? i put it to sleep and wifi turns back on.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
if you haven't done so already, update the wifi drivers (assuming you have a US envy with the intel 6200)
stock drivers on it are really really buggy -
Believe they do not, but I couldn't swear on that.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
eh. one of these days I'll check it out.
if it stops somehow triggering the back button by turning off horizontal scrolling (one finger) I'll be happy.
...'course if it triggers again now I'm gonna immediately swap to reils. -
ah kk ty. i'll dl the ones on the front page.
-
The Quick Launcher controls the HP Hotkeys like fn+esc for Bios/serial number info fn+b for Beats etc.
HP software Framework, "provides a common set of software interfaces that centralize and simplify access to hardware, BIOS, and HP-specific Microsoft Windows drivers." from HP's website
I'm not sure about the TV Tuner... -
eeerm. how would u set up a "minimize" function to a multitouch gesture w/o scrybe? idk how to work the "three finger press/flick" functions in the synaptics options.
-
I think I found out what causes the cursor to move w/ 2 fingers when scrolling up. When I touch the trackpad right where those lines are that separate the button part, that is when it does it. It only happens when scrolling up b/c I start from the bottom of the trackpad where those lines are. Why does this cause this?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
well. I do know that the very bottom at those button lines is where there is supposed to be a dead zone.
the actual deadzone is more like halfway to the lines from the bottom. -
It's actually more like a little above the lines, but it is definitely reproducible, I can get that annoying cursor shoots to the top of the screen about 3 or 4 times in a row, right on/above those lines. Starting below the lines initiates a normal up scroll.
-
Can you disable the deadzone?
Edit: Well, maybe now that I know what it is, I can train myself to stay away from that area. -
Thanks MagusDraco for the help with the touchpad info. I've been playing with the settings for the last few hours and am starting to get used to this touchpad and am really liking it.
According to the JJB setup tips..."Tap zones is another useful feature, you can set the corners to be dedicated button areas with assigned functions, I have the upper corners as page forward and back for my browser and the lower right is the refresh button. Note: by 'buttons' I me areas that you just 'tap' the pad to activate..."
Does anyone know where I can find this? I cannot find it under any of my touchpad settings and would really like to have this function. I tried updating my driver with every possible selection that was available, but the driver version never changed from 15.0.13.3. Is that where my problem is? If so, where do I find a more updated version? I will check the 1st page right not... -
yeah use jjb's method on the front page...if you've done that alrdy, idk how to help yah o.o.
after messing with the touch pad a little, i despise pinch to zoom (it's okay, i'm only using it to zoom into my daily news pages due to my bad eyesight). i'm getting used the two finger scrolling; the three finger tap for right click takes a bit to get used to. i set the tap zones to refresh, back, and forward. if only i can somehow set a multitouch gesture or function or something to minimize... -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
tap zones won't show up by default.
you gotta well...it's a bit of a pain but you have to try to install one of the other driver packages that comes with the touchpad. And I don't really remember what steps you take beyond the first one (find touchpad in device manager, go to properties, hit update driver) -
Cool, thx again for the help. I figured it out and got my touchpad setup pretty well. This is the best touchpad I have used, though I still wish you could make the buttons a deadzone

Hey guys,
I am new to this forum..I am planning to buy a lappy and i am confused b/w envy 14 & acer 4820TG...
The thing is i like envy 14 very much but can anyone tell me as Envy 14 has a hot air ventilation on its back and when we open the lid of envy 14 it covers that air ventilation and coz of this the hot air flows through the display of the envy 14 making it hot when running for a large time..so my question is does this will effect the display on the long run..
I just have this small issue otherwise i am ok with it and going to buy one...plz reply soon as i need to buy a lappy very urgently.. -
I doubt it. I've overclocked the GPU to 530 Mhz and played Bioshock for a few hours and the laptops vents got hot but the cooling system handles it very well.
The monitor doesn't get hot besides at that point right at the vents and its doesn't get too extreme. Just warm. It being made of metal means that it can dissipate the heat faster. Or as far as I can tell it does. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
have no clue if that air will eventually screw up the display or the plastic by it.
hopefully not. -
Well my hp support assistant says: "Serial #: Loading" perpetually
Will look under battery, thanks
I ran it at 550 while playing stalker under my bedcovers (already got the winter ones out ^.^) and it went stable at 78. My old MBP ran stable at 87-88 with the same types of settings. Sadly I got really hot down there and had to let air in; good thing there was a window fan blowing cold air at me

Catalyst 10.8 Brings SC2 AA; Hints at Future GPUs
not sure if it has been mentioned -
As you had overclocked its gpu and seems a techy kind of guy can you please tell me the cpu and gpu temperatures..or post some images of your system temp( You know how to see the temp. don't you.)...I know acer goes 70-75 C so let's see how much does it goes...
-
The vent is probably there to help vent air when you close the lid and hook it up to a desktop screen/keyboard. So hopefully it doesnt matter that the screen covers it during normal usage.
-
okay ppls, I'm posting this up from my new envy, just received. Any tips to configuring touchpad/drivers and bios and other suggestions for a new user. Also I'd like to know about any hidden bloatwear you may have come across.
Happy trails ppls, my build quality is awesome!!!
0 keyboard flex!
