Does anyone have an idea why my touchpad setting stop working arbitrarily? If I reboot, they come back. I did install "touch freeze" (which did not help with the palm problem). I"m getting used to this new pad, but it keeps going out on me.
-
touchpad is kinda retarded. When i disable tapping, it comes back on in like a week for some stupid reason, then i have to reset the synaptics driver in order to disable tapping again. This happens like once 1 week or so

This is it!!! I can reproduce it so many times. I'm using the latest driver v15.0.14.03 and it still does this. I've even disabled the buttons on the bottom (under "Buttons" > unchecked "Enable Buttons") and still no luck. If they can fix this, I'll be very happy with this touchpad. The only thing left I'm going to play with and configure is the two finger right click. -

Is this currently compatible with the Envy 14? If so where can it be downloaded at? Thx -
Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM
It should be fine for the Envy 14 it says mobility 5600 series on the PDF..I havent tried it yet because I am afraid if something goes wrong I will have no idea what to do to fix it lol -
Go to the driver's thread at the beginning (page 1), download the synaptics driver, and once you get it installed, change to the 2nd version listed (device manager, update driver, browse for driver on my computer, and select the driver that is listed 2nd) it won't stop the grey line from being stupid, but it WILL stop the cursor from flying up to the top of the screen when you start scrolling from it. It also, however introduces a new annoyance if you have pinch zoom enabled. When you hit the grey line on that driver version, pinch zoom comes on instead of the scroll. I wish they would fix this...

In other news. HM55 and PM55 Chipsets degrade SSD performance (not sure if it's all or just most but it seems pretty common)
http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...ts-can-not-take-full-advantage-fast-ssds.html
Envy 14 is HM55. HM55 and PM55 are both very common chipsets.
Whelp. I mean it's still faster but 4k writes and sequential writes are definitely lower.
decisions decisions. replace the busted 320gb with a decent other 320gb and still get a ssd after christmas, or say screw it and pick up either a WD Black 500gb or momentus XT 500gb (or 320 or 250 or something, preferrably at least 320 since I dun wanna go down in space) -
so close to clicking buy now , here is my setup
With sutdent discount 1214.99 after taxes, should i go with i3 instead , what do I really gain from the i5? if I go 13 I can upgrade hard drive or ram maybe? -
turbo boost for that little extra oomph. its only like 50 bucks more right?
you could also save that for an SSD for a very big oomph.
but for reselling purposes i5 sounds better in the long run. -
Add the slice battery; You'll be glad you did in the end even though it is a bit expensive. i3 or i5 is basically irrelevant unless you do a lot of virtualization although the 450 at 50 bucks extra is a steal. That's one of Intel's newer chips.

450m is a pretty good i5
i3 370m is also good.
keep in mind the i5 is rated for a higher temp than the i3. i3 starts to throtlle if it gets to 92ish C
i5 starts to throttle if it ever gets to low 100s C
i3 also has a bit weaker onboard video card.
edit: I mean odds are you won't get to those temps anyway but it is something to consider.
as for ram, 4gb is fine unless you do some major photoshop stuff.
SSDs are nice but expensive right now still. 500GB is nice too though so..I dunno.
up to you really. -
umm so sounds like i5 thanks alot guys. battery won't be an issue for me btw

I think I'll wait for the next driver version. Ok. The scrybe program does nothing to help this problem... -
This is the first time I buy an eSATA external Drive, can anyone provide any recommendation to use with the Envy 14? I'm ordering the Envy with the 160SSD. I would like at least 300GB for the external eSATA.
THanks in advance! -
you can get the 450 for "free" if you add the coupon logic50
-
How is the envy 14 performance-wise with this config?
i5 430m
6gb ram
640 gb 5400rpm
Im not too thrilled about the processor and the hard drive...but this is the ONLY config. in Canada !!!! (1550$) -
didnt work..
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
that only works if you aren't already getting the 10% off student discount.
student discount is >> logic50 coupon -
aah thanks

Just upgraded the touchpad drivers, anyone have any suggestions in regards to making the two finger scrolling more accurate? Maybe there's some third party fix for these kinds of things. Noted the app that makes all sorts o crazey gestures work, maybe that'd help? I just want two finger scrolling to work better.

reil's: http://go.notebookreview.com/?id=525...on-only-9.html
try this out -
how is reils compared to the googlecode one? i use smootscrolling with chrome on with synaptics + google code and it seems to be working okay....scrolling in most other things suck though lol.
also, did anyone find out how to set "minimize" to a certain function, such as four finger swipe, or three finger swipe? my mouse for my desktop has the side button set to minimize and i'm too used to it.
and how do i use/configure the three finger swipe from synaptics?
gonna make a restore point and TRY slapping on the bios and ati drivers right on top w/o uninstalls or anything in a bit. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I dunno. all I know is googlecode has been buggy on my end (hey randomly triggering back when nothing is set to back). But if it's not doing that to you, googlecode works fine.
-
You could try the update driver/select from list on my computer/pick the second version with your current driver if you want to... See the synaptics configuration guide, there are actually 3 different variations of the same driver installed on your computer, it only loads 1 variation at a time.
-
I am very satisfied with my Envy there have no problems at all(no cpu whine, build quality issues and overclocking to beyond great speeds). It eve came 3 weeks early(it came 2 days after I bought it!).
-
What the hell? That has to be a record. Has anyone ever got one nearly that fast?
-
it does sound ridiculous...i think i ordered on the 17th and got it on the 26th (eta aug 30 too).
slapping on ATI updated drivers from hp's site right now. let's see if it works.
black screen of scariness.
hard restarted according to past forum posts....it asked to check my E: files (it was fat32, checked consistency and stuff....???)
Driver packaging version: 8.741
success! -
You guys ever try the HP QuickWeb feature! I love it! It boots in seconds if I wanted to just check my email real quick, or just do web browsing session.
-
The only thing I don't like about Quick Web is the mouse setting. Otherwise it is pretty cool.
-
anyone know how to get the mute light to work without the annoying HP volume control that comes along with the mediasmart?
-
Yeah I know! I didn't find a way to mess with the settings. But this feature totally makes the Envy a glorified netbook!
-
I just got my new ENVY 14 today, charged the battery, made the recovery discs, backed up the SwSetup files, and connected to my wireless network. That's about all I've done so far. I did a system shutdown from the start menu. Now, when I try to boot the machine, nothing happens. I'm just getting a blank screen. The only other signs of life are a white light on the power key, a red light on the wireless key and a flashing white light on the CAPS LOCK key. Any ideas what is going on?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
...that means it's trying to update the bios for some reason, least it did that on mine when I did the old f.02 bios update from it's own dos..uh..thing.
-
So what do I do about it?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I'm not sure. it may just be acting annoyed.
it may be trying to boot into hpquickweb but hpquickweb broke (I dunno).
if it's trying to boot into a broken hpquickweb, disable that in the bios and see if things work.
I mean if all else fails for some reason turning it off, unplugging, pulling out the battery, holding the power button down for 30 seconds and then turning it back on fixes random issues.
edit: to get in the bios mash f10 as it boots up. hp quickweb is one of the options somewhere. -
For those of you who have an I5-450M in your Envy, has anyone tried to OC using the SLG505YC264BT clockgen in SetFSB. My 3820TG would not OC with the typical 450M clockgens and it was thought to be one of the models that required a pin mod. After some trial and error attempting to run all of the clockgens available, I was able to get this one working.
There is a trick to it. Load the program, put in control mode hit "get FSB' and then - before hitting set FSB, move the top slide to 135/760 (FSB 160.3) and then hit SetFSB. Although it would normally freeze at base clocks of 133, it has no trouble enabling SetFSB at the new clock speed of 160.3. I have no idea why, but it works.
I have been able to reach 3.1ghz speeds but not with any stability. I can get a stable 2.8ghz with no WPrime checksum errors. I suspect that when I figure out the balance of CPU, ram timing, etc., it will go faster. I was curious if this would work on other 450M units that have had trouble OC'ing.

I tried the hard reset sequence that you suggested. That seemed to do the trick. After it booted it went into the QuickWeb setup sequence. So it looks like you may be right; it was trying to boot into QuickWeb, but QuickWeb wasn't set up.
Thanks for the help. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
alright. yw. also you'd be surprised how much that hard reset fixes on HP computers. (I mean it won't fix everything but if the mute light stops working or something it can fix that too)
-
yay i finally received my notebook today! Making the recovery discs and backing up the SWSetup & Wallpapers (Local Drive/Windows/Web/Wallpaper). Is there anything else i should back up before i do MIR?
Thanks! -
so......i updated the touchpad drivers with the driver that's dated the most recent (may 2010 compared to june 2010 drivers) and now when i double tap the top left corner of my touchpad, it doesn't disable the touchpad.
meh. if only i can utilize that little light for something else.....
o well. i set the top left tap zone to minimize. i couldn't find a way to do a three/four finger swipe down to minimize. -
Ill try that after work today.
-
Here's my write up of the new clockgen. My conclusion is that it's not perfect but has some promise. http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/513560-possibly-overclocking-unclockable-3820tg.html

Has anyone done a timed battery test using HPQuickWeb? Also, are there any alternatives to HPQuickWeb that work better or have more customization, like being able to install firefox?
-
that happened to me too. just roll back to the previous version, thats what i did.
-
I've tried that coupon a few times over the past two weeks, and it never works for me.
Is it only for a certain configuration? I kept the Envy stock, but chose the 450 and radiance.
-EDIT-
I just realized the logic50 doesn't work with HPA. I just tried it while not logged in, and it worked. -
hello all I need some help.. i was performing the Minimalized Image Recovery when i came across an error after clicking next on the Recovery Manager Menu. The error message was
"Error: Recovery Manager cannot run from the hard drive. Recovery Manager must be run using Recovery Media to perform a Factory Reset"."
The next prompt was to "Insert Recovery Media". I did not insert anything and clicked ok. My laptop went for a restart and booted straight into Windows after that. Any idea what i should do?
I followed hapbeeboy's guide very closely but yet i encountered this error, which was not addressed in his guide.. any help is sincerely appreciated :/ -
Is it worth getting a monitor calibrator? Does it make the screen look better?
-
HPQW does run Firefox, but it's just not customizable. I would love to see an alternative to QW since it's gone after a clean install for me, but now that I'm on an SSD windows takes 30 seconds to boot anyway, so it's not the end of the world.
-
I remember there was some sort of a setting to decrease the range of the wifi but increase power savings. Where do I find it?
-
I've heard in several places on these forums that replacing the hard drive voids your warranty, is that really true? If I just put it back will they even be able to tell? If I'm really out of warranty already, I'm going to be moderately pissed. It doesn't make sense considering they purposely made it easy to replace the parts.
Hmm, according to HP Warranty - Warranty information under exclusions I think that may be true. I think I'll just keep the original drive unmodified and untouched for a couple years, just to be safe. Anyone have experience with replacing hardware and getting service from HP?
