*shrugs*
it was on the i5 card right? I wouldn't worry unless it happens on the radeon

Anyone have a fix? I thought this was fixed in some BIOS update?
-
I'm going to quote myself in case anyone wants to see what I posted before.
I got artifacts again, but this time on ATI during bootup. I right clicked, hit refresh, then back to normal. I did not get any artifacts during boot or pre-boot sequence. What's going on? Is this a driver problem? -
count me in too. i noticed it doesn't register all my keypresses, which is rather annoying. my razer lycosa doesn't even register all my key pressed all the time, but the envy 14 does an even worse job. i type around 40-90 wpm (90? i'm not sure, i think i rm that from a speed typing test. i might be wrong, don't flame lol), and i have to type relatively slowly on my envy 14 to get all the keypresses in. i'm hoping that logitech will have another wave keyboard (k350) dented box sometime soon; i hesitated on the last couple that were $25. this time, i'm getting one for sure.
hopefully it'll build in a week, then ship within two days. -

I'm not sure.
might be a drivers thing.
might be something booting with windows thing (fences, mydock stuff, etc)
might be a combination of many things.
since it happens with both graphics card I'd check and see what all is booting with windows and turn 'em off one at a time to see if any are causing it (msconfig, startup tab, go from there)
otherwise..well...I dunno. wonder if the artifacts are screenshottable (if they are it's a windows thing not a vid card thing...I think) -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
nah. I think this is more of a "hp volume OSD is crappy" thing.
you can delete it (I think it's part of the media smart smart menu stuff...not sure)
and then install 3rvx or something to get a different OSD that won't look the same but also won't knock you out of a fullscreen game/whatever -
Yeah, it's part of the mediasmart thing. I uninstalled it and use 3rvx now, and it worsk great.
-
i just did speed testing and i type around 85-90 and my key regiters pretty well
-
It seems to be a driver issue. It turns out it might be something to do with the power settings. I changed to balanced and power saver and I get no artifacts at all. I actually found a way to reproduce this problem. This is on a clean installed Windows 7, with stock 10.3 drivers from HP. First, switch to Intel graphics and change power settings to "high performance". Now, to get the artifacts, you have to leave it idle until screen turns off, or you can simply reboot the computer. Then, you'll see artifacts... Can anyone test this out? I would like some feedback and results from others.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I have to reinstall windows to see if that fixes my random hard freeze.
...one of these days...
so I'll test that out for you then. don't really wanna uninstall catalyst 10.8 right now. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
actually.
*tries it, sets screen to turn off after 1 minute*
whoa.
yeah that's weird looking. wonder what setting under high performance causes this. -
Not sure if this has been posted on here but there are new Envy's. This thread might be intrested in the Envy 14 Beats Edition. I however am intrested in the new dm3...

does anyone kno how to turn off the hp envy theme?
-
You need to go into a Program calles Stardock and reset it there.. Thats the way HP uses to change your computers looks...
-
Oh by the way, I know there were some people trying to get QuickWeb to work on a clean install. I was trying what MagusDraco suggested and had no luck (Installed HPQWEnvy, copied two hidden folders in SWSetup and some HP folder) but just today when I had a video DVD in my drive QuickWeb decided to initialize itself. I'm wondering if maybe when the DVD is in the drive the boot process changes a little and it just happened to look in the right place for it to find QuickWeb. If anyone else can reproduce this that would be pretty cool. So yeah, I got QuickWeb on a clean install working. I do also have an HP_Tools partition cloned from the original disk (I'm on an SSD) so that might help too.
-
Wow, the Envy 14 Beats Edition seems nice. The price isn't so bad either... but I guess it's too late.
-
Where can you buy a envy 14 bEats edition? I've looked on the Hp site and its not there? I'm about to buy a envy 14 i5 520m radiance display 500gb hdd for 1300 usd good deal?
-
HP didn't offer radiance display for Envy 14 Beats edition
-
I never Said that... I was asking where I could buy an envy 14 beats and currently in the middle of a transaction for a normal envy 14..
-
lol....i wasn't referring to your comment...i was just mentioning the info...
if you want to buy it you can try the following link

Bah so the BIOS's the problem. Hopefully HP fixes it in the next update (if there's enough complaints). Otherwise, I'll have to clean install it if/when I get an SSD to upgrade. 240GB Vertex 2 so so expensive
-
-
That's the Envy 14 Beats Edition.
-
Pity the beats doesn't come with the radiance display.
-
I hope they would slap a 5870 or 5850 card on the next envy 14 models
-
Wouldn't it make it run really hot and kill the battery life? I want ev1s opinion envy 14 i5 520m with radiance display or envy 14 beats edition with i5 450m?
-
Hi,
Can anyone with a Radiance screen please check if there are wwan antennas installed that can be used for a custom wwan upgrade?
The antenna cables should be located near the free minipci slot by the HDD under the battery.
I'm about to order an Envy but would like the option to add the wwan card later.
Ricahrd -
That's really up to you. Do you want a visually appealing screen or laptop chasis?
-
Hmm thats the thing I can't make up my mind, if you were in my position what would you get?
-
matto if it was me i'd get the regular envy 14 because i want more power from my computer and also i dont like the 1366x768 resolution it's too small.. the envy 14 beats though looks really cool, but at the end of the day i want performance over style
-
So... do I really need to fully charge the battery before I even turn it on? ><;
I'm so excited right now I just got it this morning @@; -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
nah.
I mean I let mine charge for like 30 minutes but then I said "screw it"
didn't break anything. -
Well who knows you may have lost 3% of your battery life u.u

The envy 14 Beats Edition is claiming up to 6 hours. While the old one claimed 7, then 3.75. Do you think the envy Beats Edition has a better battery? or are they just going to readjust the battery life back down to 3.75 later on?
***EDIT***
You guys notice the HP logo doesn't light up on the Beats Edition? Also, the Envy weights 5.2lbs, while the new Beats Edition weights 5.7. What could it be? -
i thought it weighed 5.2?
-
My bad... It is 5.2 and the beats is 5.7. Sorry about that!!!
-
i think the other .5 is from the headphones hahah
-
how is the trackpad clicking. I went to Best Buy, and found the DM-4s to be really clicky, so it sounded cheap and plasticky..
-
Hey guys,
I have my trackpad setup pretty well, but am wondering if you can help with one area...
How do you easily copy text without using the left clicker? I used to hold the left clicker down and then use my pointer finger on the trackpad to do this, but as we know, that causes issues on this trackpad. I have tap and drag enabled, but that doesnt seem to do it...
Thoughts? -
Use the 'tap to click' feature, no need to use the physical buttons to highlight the text, just double tap where you want to start highlight and then lift finger to end and then right click (button) to select save, copy etc.
-
I'd probably go for the normal Envy because of the Radiance Display and its 1600x900 resolution. I mean, the Beats Edition looks awesome, but the longer you have it the less you'll care about how it looks.
-
It's a little clicky, not too much for my taste, but I guess opinions vary from person to person.
-
.5 pounds is the "beats internal" something something sound?
haha ah fair call yeah I think I'm getting the normal one I can't wait any longer for it ahha
-
Hey 2.0 in the Trackpad only thread, there's a new software there thats been developed instead of Two Finger Scroll. More functions and less buggy.
-
You mean I have to read and look for it...
Added to first post... well a link at least. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
trackpad thread is mean like that.
-
sweet...thanks!
-
are there any hardware differences in the beats edition vs. the regular E14? the only real differences i notice aside from aesthetics is that the beats edition adds photoshop.....
-
Photoshop ELEMENTS ~$100, Photoshop CS4/5 ~$700
Big difference. -
so when you get your e14, remember how they had some kinda...corel software or something? i don't think i have that anymore after minimal image recovery
is it in swsetup? can i reinstall it? i don't think i'll use it anyway (cause it's sorta like photoshop right?), but just in case i need it in the future, i wanna know how to get it back =P
btw hp envy 14 beats is sexy....but the red backlight will eat away your eyes, because the color red is very harsh on your eyes. blue is almost as bad, orange is the best for your eyes
idk about white, lol.
