Whew.. I just skirted by. I told ya Padmé liked me... Gummy Bears FTW!
-
Thats funny, because 5 seconds after reading your initial post i had found the answers to all of those questions in links found on the OP. Look harder.
-
Man, it seems nobody at HP knows what SSD, let alone brand of 256GB SSD is in the Envy 14. I asked them to escalate it so we can get an answer. I mean to spend $500+ and not know is pretty brutal.
-
If by annoying you mean amazing, then yes i agree.
I've been waiting for years for someone to finally realize Apple got it right and to just copy it for a PC instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. -
Has anyone who has the E14 said how much KB flex it has? I ask b/c i was at staples today and say the DV6 series laptops which had quite a bit of flex.
-
Max settings, probably not. Medium-high, on some of them. Should play all of those at medium settings. If you really need more graphics performance, there is always overclocking
-
If you read the reviews on the first page, you'll find that there is apparently very slight keyboard flex when applying enough pressure. It's supposedly not noticeable when doing regular typing.
-
Hey guys I thought I would give a little review of the two accessories I bought with the envy 14. Of course the laptop itself hasn't arrived yet and probably won't for another 2 weeks or so but I did receive my notebook sleeve and logitech mouse 3 days before their estimated arrival date which is nice.
I bought the 14.5 inch hp notebook sleeve and I have to say it looks VERY sleek, much nicer in person. It is after all just a sleeve and not a case so it is quite thin so when traveling I would recommend putting in something else as well. It does have a handle on the top though if you do choose to just carry it alone. I, however, will be slipping my envy 14 into it then putting the whole thing in my backpack when I go to class. But it really does look and feel nice. The zipper is on the side though which is a little different. You slide the laptop in through the side. It has a zipped up pouch on the front for your adapter, mouse, etc.
I also bought the Logitech v220 mouse and it is also very nice. I was a bit worried after reading a few reviews that said it was too small but I think it is the perfect size for a laptop. It fits the hand perfectly and is quite comfortable. It was simple to set up. No software to download or anything you just plug in the usb stick and in seconds its ready to go. You can also slide the usb stick in the bottom of the mouse for extra portability.
Let me know if you have any questions
-
How much was the Logitech mouse? Is it a wired mouse?
-
Does anyone know if wireless mice (non Bluetooth) waste more battery than wired mice?
-
they drain a bit more (like if bluetooth is on, on your phone)
-
I think he wants to know if the RF receiver drains more or less power than just plugging in a wired mouse into the USB port instead.
-
Hey 2.0 I really like everything about the elitebook line, especially the 8450w, but I dont use any business programs beyond Microsoft Office, and I like being able to game... Do you know of any way to change up the graphics on these without haveing to replace the motherboard as well? Also I heard you could possibly change up the drivers on the ATI FirePro 5800 to be more geared towards graphics that would improve gaming performance... Any thoughts? -
I just hope WoW runs on High settings, if not Ultra.
-
Can anyone tell me what the shipping weight and dimensions are (if they're mentioned on the shipping notice)?
I really need them,And if no one knows..maybe someone could tell me the shipping weight for the Envy 15 (since they're about the same weight anyway).
Thanks

Just a quick OT:
For those uninformed people bashing the Timeline panels, I have to announce that the timeline can have 4 different panels from 4 different vendors, each with its brightness and contrast.
Also, remember that the panels can be calibrated and some need to be before optimum conditions.
I know I have a 4810TG (that can have 4 different panels as well), and this screen is stupidly bright. I need to set the brightness way down in order to use it most of the time, and it's perfectly usable at the minimum brightness.
I don't believe the E14 is that much more bright than this, it'd simply destroy your eyes at low light settings.
Sorry for the off-topic, but I had to debunk this myth. -

hope this helps, its from the pdf sheet thats on the amazon envy 14 page -
the graphics card will demolish WoW =p
-
No doubt about that. WoW and other Blizzard games were made with the mainstream, medium budget PC in mind. Blizzard's philosophy in this regard has remained unchanged for quite a long time.
I'll be happy if I can jam away at SC2 at medium settings at low temps. -
That's probably one of my gripes; the uncertainty behind the probability of getting one of the better panels. -
medium? i thought this laptop can handle sc2 at ultra settings
-
Has someone already tried playing SC2 on it? How hot would the temps get at medium, high, and ultra settings?
-
I'll probably play sc2 at medium setting as well. Less lag I think. But E14 should handle sc2 at ultra setting with no problem. I've been playing sc2 beta with my 3 years old Asus W7s at medium setting no problem, so it should be a piece of cake for E14
-
Not sure but why do you care about temps when gaming? Surely you dont game with the laptop on your lap.
EDIT: Well I suppose one might worry about where you rest your wrists. I wouldnt know about that problem though as the only laptop I have owned stays cool there but gets really hot underneath which isnt an issue since I always game on a desk. -
A 256mb 330m can play wow at 1050 at a mix of medium/high I sure hope for Ultra ^.^
-
a game like starcraft? sure, why not
-
Yeah, you could play a game like that in your lap. I'd hope to do the same with games like Civilization, SimCity, and Zoo Tycoon (Yes, I still play the first
).
For FPSes, I plan to mostly do Team Fortress 2, Oblivion, Fallout 3 (and New Vegas this fall ;D ), Borderlands, and maybe Star Wars games here and there. Nothing too demanding, but enough that I'll need a mouse and won't be able to play on my lap. -
That, plus I get worried when my GPU's temps start approaching 90. There's always a chance HP may decide that the GPU "performed to spec" and that I abused it when it blows out.
-
Trust me, it should run on High with an exceptional amount of FPS. Ultra should probably run with about 30+ FPS with 5650. Although you don't really need to run on Ultra-there's really nothing graphics demanding in WoW so....
-
Guys quick question. Say if I have someone going to america. Can I send them to go pick up my laptop directly from HP? Or can HP USA ship to Canada? Cause to be honest...HP Canada doesn't exist
-
I think knowing about temps while gaming are much more for determining how well the system can handle certain games (i.e. how close you're getting to throttling temperatures) than to determine how hot the laptop will get on your lap.
And, while I don't do this often, I have played FPS games on my lap. Just plug in a mouse and put it next to you on the couch.
-
TITCR.
If it's a fragile electronic device with a tendency to overheat and develop problems, then I tend to pay more attention to the temps. But if it's like a car, built and designed to last at least the first 150,000 miles, then I'm less inclined to worry as long as I'm getting my scheduled oil changes and transmission fluid flushes. -
i bought the 4-year warranty when i ordered my laptop. on the "order status" page the purchase showed up as two different purchases/orders. i was notified about 2 days after i bought the laptop that my order was shipped. and actually, what they were referring to was the packet they sent me explaining my 4-year warranty stuff... then i was notified this morning that my laptop was shipped.
so yeah, you'll probably get 2 different shipments if you order accessories. but when they send the "your hp order has shipped" email, they specifically state which products they're sending. so all the people who have said that their laptop has been sent are probably correct -
Do you have to pay extra charges when it arrives in Canada? or not?
Please let me know.
Thanks. -
If it's shipped via UPS then you will be subject to an insane amount of "brokerage fees" upon arrival
Standard mail will only have basic duty if the value is declared on it when shipped
Again, beware UPS -
Thank you,it did help
-
can somone please explain to me in detail what i have to do to get rid of all the bloatware im also updating to ultimate when the envy14 comes
-
This thread might help.
-
If I paid $1200 for the laptop, how much should I expect to pay duties?
-
Since everyone is waiting still for an envy, I want to mention that Asus has a 14" laptop coming out next month with a faster GPU than the ati 5830, usb3.0, and bluray! Only problem is the screen is 1366x768... Asus N43.
-
Depends on the service used. Here is the UPS page which provides some details on duties tro Canada:
UPS: Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada
I'll say it again though: even without the great exchange rate against the Canadian dollar, the TOTAL price is still considerably cheaper than what you would pay in Canada. And that is factoring in whenever HP feels like offering it in Canada. Look at the previous Envies as an example, or do a quick search on the prices being offered for pre-orders of the Envy 14 (if you can find them and if they actually list a date for availability). -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
If not for that I would have waited on one of those Asus computers.
and if the G53 had optimus I would have waited onit instead (but it looks like the G53 is gonna be using an i7 and start at like 1500+) -
A bit off topic but what anti-virus do you guys use? I had Avast and I loved it but it ran out. Should I get it again or go for something different?
-
And what GPU would that be? The Fermi-mobile GPUs have not even been released or reviewed... and the only one that has is 100W *grumble grumble*
@Above I have heard good things about Avast, but I use AVG. -

I've been using microsoft security essentials and besides those odd moments when it lags like hell because it forces a system restore point every time you update the definitions it's been pretty nice.
never bothered to stop the system restore points -
Hey guys. How noticeable is the etched pattern on the E14 in person? I really don't like it. And do you think a laptop skin like this: Black Racy Laptop Skin would look weird on it?
Thanks. -
What gpu is it going to have?
