Page 666 guys
btw does anyone have a good guide on doing a clean install. And what does one need in order to do it? (sorry I'm not exactly confident with my tech abilities.) -
Can anyone post their dxdiag display result? Am I the only one's who shows less than 1gb?
-
I would like to know this as well. Also battery life, please tell us how much battery you get out of i7.
Thanks. -
Here you go...

wow thats something that shouldve been put in the spoiler quote

hmm, so the samsung ssd scored 6.8 index and the intel 128 scored 7.7.
I would like to see a score of dual channel 1066, to see how much is the 1333 vs 1066. -
page 666 :O

Here's the PDF document for that 256gb Samsung SSD:
Samsung MMDOE56G5MXP-0VB 2.5" 256GB SATA II MLC
No mention of TRIM support.
I don't know if there is a firmware upgrade for it or not that will enable TRIM for it. -
Run AS SSD Benchmark instead. WEI is wee wee.
Alex Intelligent Software - Downloads: AS SSD Benchmark
Post up a screeny.
Also ATTO

So i'm streaming some media right now and all of the heat is generated around the keyboard. It's not terrible, but definitely noticeable.
There is no heat by the touchpad and that makes me very happy. -
Well considering the only thing below the touchpad is the internal battery, it makes sense.
-
Yo, 2.0! Can we have some kind of celebration when this thread hits 777 (10 posts/page) pages or 7777 posts?
-
Not true - the Li-Ion battery and SSD are located under the touchpad.
-
2/3 of the way to 1000 posts
Can someone confirm that the 160 GB SSD is Intel G2 X25-M? Or has it already been confirmed?
-
Thanks bucknasty87 for the info afaik i am not a student, woukd have to try the cancellation option.
-
See page 1 of the thread
-
It's been confirmed.
See p1 -
YES! I'm going to close it until the Sunday of that week! Awesome! Don't you agree?
-
thats what i said. the mass storage device is not always going to be an SSD for everyone though, and an HDD will heat up the wrist pad on that side a little. But directly under the touchpad is the battery, the HDD/SDD bay is off to one side.
-
For anyone with hardware questions, here is a speccy snapshot while running on integrated graphics.

As long as we open up a new thread dedicated solely for posting cat and dog pics!
-
haha your officially the best mod ive seen on any forum ever.
-
To check if trim in enabled, D/L the following program:
Crystal Dew World - Software - CrystalDiskInfo
D/l the portable version. -
Ahah! Thanks guys.
-
i dont think you actually have to be a student. just set it up and use a random school.
-
Samsung SSD - Downloads
BOOM!
TRIM! -
Many thanks will try it.
-
That's great news, good find!
It looks like the Intel drive is a little faster, but the Samsung is larger, and since both have TRIM it is likely most people won't notice the difference in performance between one and the other. Especially since most won't have a side by side comparison of the two. All SSD's are lightspeeds faster than any 2.5" HDD option. -
If you get a chance I would be very interested in knowing what you get for the CPU Wattage on the 840QM when at full idle?
The best app I've found to read this is Everest (30 day free trial).
The 720 / 820QM have a minimum power draw of 15.34W at idle, which kills battery life, it is supposed to be much better on the 740 / 840QM's.
Thanks in advance for any feedback. -
The ATI CCC panel > info center> 'Graphics hardware' tab will show exactly what is installed....
-
LOLWUT? HP clearly stated the SSD was a Western Digital. LOL. Problem is Samsung website for SSD is down atm. I wanna read more specs!
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
look up some wingnut.
people posted some links (either in this page or the last one...assuming you're on 30 messages a page) -
HELP!
Where's that pic of the slice battery? Need to link it to first post. -
Has anyone had a chance to measure the full battery life with the slice yet?
-
Found a easy way to do a quick comparison between the two SSD's offered. Anandtech has info for the Corsair P256 which uses the Samsung MLC drive just rebadged.
Bench - SSD - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News -
FYI - full battery lasts 3 hours 25 minutes doing light tasks (i7 840QM)
EDIT: This is no slice -
interesting seeing as thats with the GPU on.
-
That's longer than i expected. Is this on a fresh install or default HP bloatware?
Wifi/Bluetooth on/off?
Display brightness?
Power profile used? -
No specs that I saw. I did find this but it's sparse on useful specs:
http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...wn/ds_PM800_General_NSSD_25_SATA_II_rev13.pdf
I'm a little disappointed though, since you can buy this drive new on eBay for about $400, and that's about the price I got it for with 30% BCB in my Envy 14.
edit: oh wait, I did find it, and its the same document I linked. d'oh! Either way no random read/write info. -
Could you please update us to see if you continue to get that much battery life in your normal day to day use.
-
Take your pic (pun or no pun intended):
envy slice battery - Google Search -
Anxious to hear more too. Either that says something good about the Envy, or the i7-840, or both.
-
Thanks stirk, that shows the US envy also uses RAM from samsung, same as the german ones.
-
abaddon4180 Notebook Virtuoso
Is that battery life to 7% when the notebook sleeps or until the battery dies completely?
-
OMG! Like, ewww!? :confused2:
One of our posters here had a really excellent pic. But I can't find it b/c I can't remember his or her name.
Oh well. Off to unwind and watch Burn Notice. -
Uhg...Making the recovery disk is painfully slow...
-
Here's another review showing a 256gb Samsung MLC drive in the graphs. This one is listed as "OCZ Summit 256GB"

You using DVD-Rs, or what?
