    I disabled fan always on in bios

    My fan never stops completely for more than 2 seconds and then spins stops spins stops and then runs continuously.

    I hope I can somehow fix this problem

    When will the Envy 14 appear in retail stores? For the 13, 15, and 17, when did they start appearing in stores after HP's release?

    I put a note that it is defaulted to being always on and at low speed at idle. Also that it can be turned off in BIOS.

    On some models in the past, a BIOS update did help out with the threshold that they would kick in on. So cross fingers and perhaps toes.

    Disabled fan always on in BIOS and fan is behaving while streaming 1080p content (yeah I know the res isn't support but I like killing CPU cycles). This thing is not hot. The right side is a little warm to the right of the keyboard but not at all on the palm rests. The bottom near the screen is warmer but not hot. The rear exhaust is redirected some to the front of the screen but not blocked.

    HAHA. When I first bought the dv2610 in 2007, the stock BIOS made it so the fan would be intermittent and would kick in only during load (playing SC at the time). It was so annoying and I decided to update to their "updated" BIOS, and that made the fan stay on forever... I guess that's okay though, since it's been alive since then :)

    So personally, I don't mind a constant fan, constant airplane, constant jet engine, etc. I think it'd be a good thing, as long as the fan wasn't "spinning uselessly" (has sounds of spinning, but no air actually coming out indicating broken fins on the fan).

    Hey! Check this out. A new BB code tag for pics. (we were talking about it the other day. Folks were using the spoiler tag to hide images).

    It auto-shrinks pics and makes them "click to enlarge.". Here's how it works...

    [image=200]image url here[/image]

    I expect y'all be usin' it. Know what I'm sayin'?

    Man this laptop have a longer battery than I thought. I was kinda sad that the original prediction was under 4 hours and after actually using it, the battery life is more close to 5 hours on basic web browsing.

    So far the only complaint I have over the laptop is that the wireless always cuts off for some unknown reason. It says it can't detect anything at all even after turning on and off the wireless. Is there a way to fix this? Maybe a driver update?

    Also I hate this touchpad. I wish that had the traditional 2 buttons.

    No idea. I still dont know how to do the URL links where it says the title of the website, but if you click on it, its the link. All i know how to do is paste the actual URL itself (e.g. "www.google.com" vs GOOGLE) <--- The Google link doesn't work, it's just the example I was talking about how I dont know how to make it a link LOL

    Loving my envy so far, been using a 13" mb previously. It's dead silent and doesn't cook my lap like the mb. Only issues are the gap bottom center under the touchpad an maybe the optical drive. It's very loud and shakes the whole computer when loading a DVD. I'm guessing that's not normal? Hopefully this will last me 8 years like my last sager did :) 4-5 min

    No, this is hot off the press. The insert image button won't resize. That'll probably happen with the next iteration of the forum this fall. But for now, this is the stop-gap measure.

    DAMNIT! Are you kidding me?!!???

    I find this is happening on my Vaio all the time, I was glad that with the new HP coming in today, I wouldn't have to deal with this crap anymore! nooo

    that said, i think its an interference or channel thing. I used to have this problem, then got my router on a nice channel that stopped it. I noticed its happening again lately, but only after I was screwing with my router.

    It's happening now, but mostly when I'm at the top floor of the house. I'm on it right now in my basement and near the router, and haven't had it cut on me yet....

    so yeah, fool around with the router, find a good channel maybe...

    Also another complaint. The headphone out is indeed for higher impedance phones. My IEMs all have alot of hiss at any sound volume including both my Monster Turbines and IE7s. However no hiss with my DT880s 600 ohms.

    Not very practical as in a portable laptop you would not want to bring in larger higher impedance headphones which probably hinders overall portability.

    I don't think its the router problem. I can't detect ANYTHING. Like not even my neighbour's. Its just shows no available connections and after using the troubleshoot it, they say to turn the wireless on when it is already on anyways. Hasn't happened yet today but it yesterday it did it 4 times while I was downloading my essential softwares. Only a restart solved the problem (which is pretty fast due to the SSD)

    oh yeah, that. It's sometimes automatic. Depends on the site. But let's take engadget for an example.

    HP Envy 14 and 17 officially official, Envy 13 slowly waves goodbye -- Engadget

    Now I want that to say something else.

    Apple lovin' hippies over at engadget talk Envy 14

    How'd I do that?

    Intel® PRO/Wireless and WiFi Link Drivers-Only for Windows 7*

    said drivers.

    add them to the front page or something with a note saying that it fixes the stuff dropping out (supposedly. I haven't really had it drop out on me with the stock yet)

    edit: Now I HAAVE had the wired drop out on me.

    but well.

    that happened on my old computer too and it's 'cause I need to replace the 3-5 year old ethernet cable

    So just to be clear, is the wireless card issue a software or hardware problem? Will I need to buy an Intel 6300 card from China to solve this problem?

    it's a software issue.

    newer drivers fix it.

    now to add though. the antennae are in the top of the lid so don't expect to have a signal if you close the lid

    So, are the netcable holes in newer laptops like these faster than the ones in older laptops? Or will it be the same speed as always (dependent on Cat5e/6 cables + router + ISP)? Just wonderin' thats all. It's 2010, so thought there might be a faster netcable port.

    now that you guys mention it, yeah, this is a driver issue. ive had to mydate to the same driver set a few times to fix the issue. for whatever reason it was reverting back to the issue would pop up over and over?

    guess it coincided with the router setup, weirdly, so that threw me off

    im getting sick of installing these damn intel drivers

    Why don't anyone here that complaining about the fans on and off using any laptop cooler?Its a simple and cheap upgrade. It might bring the CPU temperature down or stable at 29c.

    +1, any professional graphic designer that have some sort of color calibrator software+devices, can you share your ICC profile. The screen will be much better after calibrated. JJB, can we try your E15 ICC profile?

    2.0, could you please put driver update section things in front of the page?I'm sure we will going to have a lot of driver updates since its a new machine.

    You know i posted the intel RELEASE NOTES for a reason, it has info about setup and KNOWN issues such as this:

    Linksys* Access Point Association Timeout

    After the association flow completes, the adapter stays awake (as in CAM mode) for 10 seconds, and then acts according to the PowerIndex (PI) regkey. PI should not be change during this period. The association timeout is 10 seconds. Using the Linksys access point, association occurs every 60 seconds, resulting in deauthentication and disconnection from the Linksys access point.

    Good to know you all just install any new driver randomly posted from the 'ether'net

    In case you missed it, here it is again;

    @new_vaio_f

    Here is the best general purpose .ICC profile for the envy 15 1080p glossy screen. The envy 15 screen starts out as a very 'cold' display with a harsh blueish tint, so I doubt this will work very well on the 14 since I have read 0 complaints about the display. Should be able to right click on the zip file and choose install profile... Warning I have no idea how to revert back to your original as my calibration software has a nifty little app called profile chooser which just pops up and I select from a list, so I never have manually load these things... Use at your own risk...

    has anyone figured out what's causing the whining sound in the CPU (I believe)? I think people with 450M and 520M were having this problem..

    An update of my own: I fixed my WiFi by gently taping on the backside of the screen...and it apparently worked. Guess it just means you have to be really careful...and I mean REALLY careful when you move your E14 around. Either I got a faulty machine with hardware moving around...or its just the design of the computer.
