Anyone else have any solutions for me? I cant get my Ethernet card to be recognized. When I try installing the realtek drivers, it just says that it cant find the device.

Dont someone said the Ethernet would enable it self when you plug in the Ethernet wire to your router? try that and see if you see any Ethernet device.

    PS:are you doing clean install?

When something like that happens to me, I typically open up the lappy to see if the card is connected properly. I would say that's the most likely problem.

but isnt the ethernet card soldered to the mobo?

I have tried uninstalling the unrecognized device, rebooting, and seeing if windows will install it itself, but no good.

And yes this is a clean install.

It actually seems that the whine is caused by usb devices. When I plug in my mouse it whines, and then when I unplug it it goes away. That's some bull right there.
After further listening, I think the whine may always be there, but I can barely hear it when nothing is plugged in and it gets loud when a USB thing is plugged in.
Or it could just always be there and I'm just going nuts...yea, I think that's it

If it was working before under HP Win 7, All I can think either its the wrong driver or there is something you install/did in the BIOS that would disable the card.

Yes, it's part of the mobo. SO that's not an option.

Try the have disk method to install the driver.
Look at this tutorial except substitute video driver for your ethernet. Meaning, the same principle applies.

Just make sure that you extract the driver using winrar to a directory first. Then when you use the have disk method, you will point to that location.

    problem.

the device doesn't show up in the device manager.

    at all.

you can't use the have disk method.

...I made the foolish decision to uninstall the driver.

    bam.

    gone.

I copied the SW Setup folder and my device manager has that "Unknown Device" as well as the PCI Simple Communications Controller as devices that don't have drivers.

Does anyone have any information on where to get these drivers?

Also is there a way to turn off the LED's on the power button and the Wifi key?

Well I kinda think I'm gonna have a mouse plugged in a lot...high frequency noises drive me insane, especially if I'm going to be like writing a paper on my laptop and trying to focus...maybe return it and reorder with a 450? Nobody's getting high pitched noises with the 450, right? The whine plus the messed up logo could be enough, but then I risk getting a new one with worse things wrong lol, great.

Edit: I really do love this laptop otherwise though, it looks amazing, the keyboard is awesome, the trackpad is fine (I don't have much experience with other ones, and don't rest my thumb on the button, idk how anyone does that lol its super unconfortable), and I got a pretty good price on it. I just don't know if I'll be happy for the next 3-4 years with this damn whine.

and guys. the inf won't install by clicking on "install" it says it's not that kind of inf.

    ...which is a pain.

but somehow my stuff magically started working again after I tried to install it, tried to install the inf, put it to sleep and then came out of sleep.

    and...it was installed/installing the stuff

edit: other people having this issue on desktop computers pulled out their ram for a few minutes then put it back in and rebooted and the thing showed up on the desktop.

but...well they were using some random other motherboard and I doubt this will work for us.

    try killing and unkilling explorer.exe

    hit windows key.

hold ctrl + shift and hit right click while hovering over the start menu. hit exit explorer.exe

then hit ctrl + alt + del, go open the task manager, on file in the task manager go to new task (run). type in explorer

    hit enter.

if that doesn't fix it, you have to reboot

    IT WORKED! thanks Magus!

What I did: installed the drivers, they failed, then i put the computer to sleep, woke it up, and windows installed the drivers, and viola!

But its still weird because I still have the same unknown device in the device manager, PCI Simple Communications Controller. What is that?

But problem fixed, thanks Magus, 2.0, and everyone else who helped!

    2.0 FLAG!

there's some very important info you need to tell people about installing the ethernet drivers.

there's a mobo bug or bios bug or something where if the drivers go away, the realtek stays in deep sleep and you can't install.

however if you try to install, then let it fail and then put the computer to sleep and come out of sleep it will finish installing correctly.

Weird as hell but it works. You also probably need to have an ethernet cord plugged into the jack for this to work.

I have the same fan problem you are describing.
I decided to take look inside and found another problem. The whine noise that everybody is talking about is coming from the cpu(buzzing sound).

Well after the OS fiasco with a CHINESE screen of ??????? and vista randomly installing after using a windows 7 recovery disk I finally returned it after 5 hours on the phone. They wanted me to pay more than what I originally paid until finally a rep talked to their sup. and got me the original price i paid. Gave her all 8s. Hopefully my new one will be perfect, but I have to say the next computers I get will never be an HP. Their support and wanting me to pay more because of their errors frustrated me for too long.

Yeah you got screwed over there. I mean you probably could have clean installed windows 7 with our help but it would have taken a few hours. If you were lucky. And got the win 7 iso burned right, got everything together, installed it right, do that ethernet fix (sleeping getting rid of deep sleep mode, what the hell?), and uh...everything else

and also we would have needed to mirror the SWSetup folder for you first.

I think what we all need to do is make a list of installing the correct driver in order. That what need to be done for Vaio F series if you wanted to do clean install.

This is the order of Vaio F driver need to be installed :
    1)Chipset
    2)SATA
    3)Graphic
    4)Ethernet
    5)Wireless
    6)Bluetooth
    7)Card Reader
    8)CPRM
    9)Sound
    10)Notebook Utilities

This problem that you have, might be avoided because sometimes one devices work if the other devices installed. Say mobo chipset and sata chipset.

You can change the CPU apparently, maybe after few years I'll be doing that.

Just need to be aware of a few items when installing with some specific drivers. I did not find anything that was a game stopper when I did a clean setup on both of mine. I am running Windows 7 Enterprise 32 bit on the 4 GB machine and Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit on the 8 GB one. Working great, so far.

Okay after toying around with display calibration a bit more I think I've got it as good as it can possibly go. The blue gamma isn't as accurate as it should be but that seems to throw off the white levels. All in all I'm glad I won't be tweaking anymore
