Yes 64 bits and start all tests.

I gotta go now so I'll just tell you what you could do if cinebench shows only 2 logical cpu (and so a score below 7000 in multi core test).
    - Change the environnement variable for cpu to 4 and reboot => try again cinebench
    - Ultimately update bios and try again.

Not gone yet ^^ blargh. For the 5650 OCing, try using ATI overdrive in the catalyst configuration page, if it's not there or locked, try using rivatuner.
Thanks bronsky for the good news, if the 450m on all envy has a workable clockgen (someone gotta find the clockgen chip model on the mobo and contact the setfsb guy http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/ to ask him which clockgen to use) the I7-620 level overclocking possibility you're reporting is a real good thing, but do you know if it only overclocks the cpu or does it overclock aswell all the other mobo frequencies like pci-e ?

You can hear it over music, but when I'm testing for it I put my ear to the keyboard to make sure I can hear it either way.

Putting my ear to the keyboard let me identify that it was in fact coming from my cpu (since I had my sisters watching tv in the background), then from identifying it I was able to hear when it was and wasn't playing.

Those having their wifi shut down may not be able to cure it by changing the setting in the Wifi's power setting window. You may need to reset your computer's power profile. The basic power profiles will reset to default and shut down your wireless again on restart. You have to either make a new profile or reset the battery/plug settings so the power stays in the first mode for more than 15 min.

That's disappointing if the GPU is locked at 450mhz. The y460 @ 550 gets ~7500 in 3dmark06 (1280x768 rez though). A bit lower when I tested on an external monitor at 1280x1024.

This may be a stupid question, but for the life of me I can't find out how to turn off the bluetooth. I know how to disable it in system properties, but can someone explain how to turn it off?

If you want to disable it altogether, go to Start, right click Computer, select Manage, choose Device Manager, it should show up under Network Adapters, right click it and select Disable.

    Intel X25-M G2 160GB supports TRIM

Samsung 256GB supports trim if the firmware ends in OVB, which apparently this one does.

2.0, if you could link my little whine guide to OP that would be cool.

If you deem it unnecessary or think having it linked it would cause unnecessary fear thats okay I didn't put too much of my soul in it I won't be too offended :p

But I do think its helpful for people who are interested in if they have it or not.

I would rather find out my computer has a problem asap so I can get it fixed, rather than wait until two months later when I can't return it to begin hearing the severely brain drilling annoying high pitched whine.

i dont know if someone already answered this, but just plug in an ethernet cable into the jack and then install the driver. Since there was no cable in the ethernet jack, the card went into "deep sleep" mode.

I'm excited, I just placed my order! I just went with my 10% HPA discount.

    My configuration:
    • Windows 7 Home Premium (to be upgraded with my legal copy of Windows 7 Enterprise)
    • Core i5-450M at 2.4GHz
    • 4GB DDR3 (2-DIMM)
    • 500GB 7200RPM HDD (to be swapped with my OCZ Vertex 60GB)
    • HD 5650 / Intel Integrated
    • 1600x900 14.5" screen
Build date is August 2nd, and I went with the standard 5-7 day shipping.

I skipped out on the battery slice for now-- if I really need it I'll pick up later, assuming HP actually decides to sell it!

What router are you using? Sometimes the fix is router side.

I had this issue with the 5100. I set the router to 2.4ghz instead of 5ghz with a 20hz channel width.

Idk it was just on blend, cpu was at 100% the whole time though. Maxed out at 62/63 C after a half hour

Mine wasn't internet browsing, it was just sitting there idle, and it ended up going up more, those temps aren't accurate

potential stupidity is only half stupid.

computer goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner.

typing makes that error noise for windows 7.

    rebooting.

    hey I'm on 8.470 (10.6 alpha).

....amd gpu clock tool still hard freezes

msi after burner still resets to 450/800 if you change things

Semi good news. I am thinking that the clock tool failure may have to do with the IGP, is there an easy way to disable the IGP, maybe device manager? and then try loading the clock tool?

Also does the 'switchable' feature still work with the 10.6 Alpha ? What about the final 10.6?

PS; see how small your posts can be w/o double spacing

Actually, I can't recall the laptop (maybe it was my Shuttle PC), but I had one that had a similar issue a few years back. It ended up being the capacitors or resistors. People just ended up putting a little glue on them and it shut it up (or just changed the frequency outside human hearing at least).

but all the spacing makes it easier to read. Anyway you can still swap to intel on the 10.6 release drivers.

gonna swap back in a second *closes firefox* edit: swapping back works too.

switchable is a go. Not gonna disable the intel since last time that happened it went to vga mode. ..'cause yeah.

also I'm noticing that gpu-z defaults to the intel instead of the radeon. amd gpu tool may be picking the intel and crashing (the ati is gpu1, intel is gpu0 in riva tuner too).

hmmm...anyway to make amd gpu tool find the right gpu?

also initially my temps were weird and in the upper 50s after installing cat 10.6

it's gone back down to regular temps but took like 5 minutes.

Apparently from my research of the unfix-able (except with battery destruction) cpu whine, it turns out this happens across ALL models of ALL processors.

The cause always varies, some models its more common in lower cpu usage, some in medium...

    This is mind numbing.

    The most painful thing ever?

The question of whether people have it and can't hear it or if people don't have it even with the same processor.

    Mind bottling I tell yah.

From my earlier post I noted it was capacitors or resistors on another machine I had. A little glue on it and it fixed it, either kept it from vibrating to create the noise or changed the frequency. Maybe if someone is brave enough to pinpoint general area and try putting a little glue or electrical tape on it to see what happens.

Well, I closed my laptop to shut up the whine, but I still heard an annoying whine after a little while. Held the power brick up to my ear and it's 100% whining, really very annoying. Does anybody else's power brick whine? I don't think mine does when the computer's on, but when it's sleeping and charging it does...otherwise it makes other strange noises that also don't seem normal lol.

Note: This is not the cause of my whine, my cpu still indeed whines, but the power brick whines as well
