They get this idea because it happened for the Envy 13, Envy 15, and Envy 17.

the first discount I get in addition to my 10% off or greater than 10% off, I think I'll pull the trigger. Otherwise I'll probably hold out for a couple more weeks. Better to wait a little and not regret it.

This model is priced much more aggressively than any of the previous Envy models. I do not see major discounts being a priority.

There is no reason to buy envy 14 right now, unless you want one right away and absolutely don't care about the savings that could come eventually with either bing cashback or some coupon. Personally I'll wait to see what July 4th sales will bring.

After much debate I ended up ordering an Envy 14 w i5-450 and 4gb 1 dimm w 10% off. Otherwise base specs. I absolutely needed a laptop by late July at the latest so hopefully this will come in time. Went back and forth between Envy 14 and DV6Z/T w combined $450 off instantly. I figured the processors were the same, I wasnt going to use the extra ram for a while anyways, and I have a 64gb ssd I got for free sitting on my desk unused and a 2tb external. Plan to remove the slot load dvd if possible and add the ssd in addition to the base 320gb.
I was gonna go with a 370, but heres a quote from a friend who's an Intel processor engineer. "75 bucks for an i5 is worth it imo
don't spend that extra 100 or whatever for the i5-520 thoughl"
The biggest selling point for me was the screen. I spent a couple hours at FRYs looking at the DV6se, DV7 and Envys. I just couldnt stand the lower resolution so I made myself get an ENVY depsite the DV6 being the much better deal. -
To all the college students trying to decide between the Envy and the DV6:
Think about what your daily schedule is like. Do you mostly leave your laptop at home (or your dorm, or whatever), or do you carry it around with you?
I'm a graduate student, and I typically carry my laptop from home, to my lab, to classes and then back home again [ which is basically all I ever do anymore], typically by bike. One of the major reasons I am buying the Envy is because I believe the metal case will make it durable. I don't believe a DV6 would hold up to my daily routine, even if I took good care of it by keeping it in a padded sleeve and so on.

yea if i could stack student discount with bing id buy it now

I don't know if I would say the i5 430 and i5 450 are the same chip really but that's just me, not only is the i5 450 the newer released chip but it has 4.8 GT/s compared to 2.5 GT/s of 430/520/540. Also adding off course 2.26 vs 2.4 clock.
Hence why the i5 450 out performs the 520 AND 540 (by one and considering it has 13 mhz advantage over 450 but is 2.5 GT/s) in bench mark for multi-tasking as it has been mentioned.
Maybe I am way off, since I have learned all this in one day from reading the whole thread and everything derpderp and yourself have posted including all the links.
So if I missed the boat, sorry. -
Man it's so hard to stop myself from ordering... I want to wait for coupons or 25% BCB but also want this laptop ASAP!
I think, even though I will be using CAD as an architecture major, I'll choose the i5-450 over the i5-520 thanks to the hundreds probably thousands of posts I've read here.
EDIT:
If I have an AMEX card and order with it is the warranty automatically extended by 1 year or do I have to do something to enable it?
Are there any other bonuses from ordering with an AMEX card that I am currently unaware of? -

That's what I'm doing. Swipe notebook and 3-year warranty using AMEX, then contacting AMEX just in case there's any paperwork to fill out.

the 430m and the 450m aren't exactly the same except for slight clock speed adjustments. The 450m is an updated CPU, there was an explanation of it somewhere in this thread.
Running dual channel will get you less than 5% performance difference for almost all uses, not 5-10%. -

The i3 370M should be plenty for me... But $25 to i5 430M is tempting. The i3 370M has a faster system bus. Does that make any difference in performance? I read here the i3 370M would be faster than the i5 520M (or was it i5 430M?) because it.

I'm going to explain once again for the 4th time. Don't get the 520m, and dont get the 430m. They are the previous quarter releases. If you go for the 430m might as well get the 370m cause 370(w/e number it is maybe its 320) HAS A FASTER DUAL CORE CLOCK SPEED, but no turbo boost, and that only applies to single core clock speed. So not too much help. the 520m is a waste of the 100 dollar upgrade from the 450m(also newer release). THEY HAVE THE SAME DUAL CORE CLOCK SPEED. they both have turbo boost, with the 520m like SLIGHTLY, very slightly higher on the single core clock speed. For 100 dollars, its not worth. If your really tech savvy, ignore this post and go buy a 370m and put in your own 620 or 640.
i7 for everyone else whose stupid and thinks this is a envy 17. The whole point of the 14.5 is for the increased battery life. With an i7 you can expect like 3 hours with integrated graphics on the whole time. -

and thank you! I'll keep the i3 370M. -
I'm letting you off with a public warning. -

BTW gang, I'm posting codes on the first post of this thread. So if you find a code post it in the thread but also PM me so I can add it to the first post. Just in case I miss it. This thread moves fast at certain times of the day. -

Why would HP introduce a coupon immediately upon release when folks are lining up to buy them at full price? Once the initial surge dies down you may see more substantial promotions. -
Woot, my order status was updated:
Order dropped to factory
(Estimated to ship on July 7, 2010)
Estimated ship date:
Your customized HP ENVY 14 customizable Notebook PC will be
built by July 7, 2010
Things are rolling much faster than my previous Envy 15 order. I'm not sure, but I vaguely remember the Envy 15 order also having a "build date" of XXX, meaning that they STARTED production on that date (and typically, it took 2-5 days to build). Here, they seem to be saying that it should be leaving the factory on that date. Here's hoping for the best.
My only regret is opting for the i5-430M; I didn't realize the 450M was a newer processor, and for $50 more I would have grabbed it. Oh well, the actual performance difference should be negligible at best, and I'm betting on socket CPUs, so it should be upgradeable anyway. -
look at the date of when it was published and then look at envy 17's release date. -

I almost wanna adjust the order and replace the 520 with the 450.
'cause...hell it's the same damn chip.
edit: *calls, finds out it's too late to change* oh well. -
What would you guys recommend between the 500Gb 7200rpm or the 640Gb 5400rpm Hdd. I'm a college student so Im ok with not having a ssd right now because of price....plus I like having the majority of my files on me at all times, which is why I have this question. I like as much space as possible, but I don't want a slow hdd. So what's you guys take on this issue?
And to sum up this 450 vs 520 debate, which one is just faster overall. I don't care if its just a little bit, I want to know which one is faster, or if one is just faster in certain situations. Because after so many pages of this debate, it can be confusing for many. -
5400 rpm drives are outdated and are slowly being replaced by the 7200 rpm drives. 10,000 rpm velociraptor drives are also available nowadays. Stick with the 7200, data transfer will be faster as well as boot time/shutdown (basically anything that requires data to be moved around).
As the the 450 vs 520, the 450 is a newer processor which has almost the exact same specs as the 520. The 520 has a turbo boost of 2.93 ghz as opposed to the 450's which is 2.66. I personally am getting the i5 450 because I cannot justify spending $100 for a .3 ghz increase in turbo boost (which will only be used in certain situations) not to mention the 450 is a newer processor. -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
The 520m should be a bit faster than the 450 in single-core computing, but with it's increased bus speed, the 450 will probably edge out the 520 in dual-core, since it has the same clock speed and dual-core turbo boost. 520 will be better for archiving with its AES instructions and multi-OS situations, with its virtualization support, but it's probably only worth the upgrade if you'll be doing heavy virtualization and/or tons and tons of archiving and extracting. -
May I just say...post 1000!!!
