^ my bad I didn't mean pre-built as in already made. I meant non CTO, "ready ship models" kind of thing. the kind they usually send to Best Buy for B&M sales.

Wow, this thread is FAST! Take 10 hours off and it launches over 100 new posts!
If the 21 days return policy is as much "no questions asked" as they say, then it makes sense to buy now and cancel or return if a better deal comes up. They may just credit you $100 or so. If not, just take the new deal. -
Here is another coupon code which i didnt see posted before: SVMB39487 thats for $25 off. Does not work with Aceademic tho'

Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
In other words, the Amazon spec sheet seems a bit fishy to me until someone from Amazon or HP (or a customer) confirms it. -

Thanks everyone for their input. I placed my order just now. I did all base configuration. Total was $1,052. I hope it will start production soon!

Edit: btw I got the i5-450m so 5 hours should be reachable with what hp said it could have been. I would actually be ok with 4.5 hours on only integrated, basic surfing -
-
bcb is all the way down at 5% now, unless you type in YOU HP YOU WORTHLESS S ARGHHHHhhhhh... then it shows 0%, but you feel alot better

I would love the slice battery but $200 is just too much... Maybe a sale later. -
bcb still says 10 over here. Doesnt matter to me though, if bcb isnt higher then 10, ill just use my academic discount.
And as htwingnut said, I am really tempted on buying my envy14 now, and if something good comes up in july, I will still be in the return window/cancel window period, so I could still get the discount. Plus calling to cancel/return would probaly just get HP to offer me a big rebate anyways...
What do you guys think? What are you gonna do htwingnut? -
lol jk
I really can't find any cool skins for it, does anyone know anything about skinning over the engraving on an envy? Should be fine not weird right, or will pushing into the engrave mess it up -
Thanks. -
Edit: Or 10% BCB -

I know these are expensive as heck, but has anyone ever tried these SSD'd? This photographer's blog i frequent always seems to be putting these into his computers. They are from OWC: OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD Serial ATA 2.5" Solid State Drives using High Performance Sandforce Processor solution

Or am I calculating this incorrectly? My tax rate is 10.25% here.
Please advise. -
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
that assumes logic50 works with the student discount.
anyway. your tax would be more like 1234 or so if it cost you 1120 -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
so...I ordered it late on the 27th. So it took 2 days to get to production. day and a half to drop to the factory. -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Umm, no coupons with student discount, unless I've been misled. So you should be at about 1297 according to my calculations... (10.25% tax on 1120 is not 1290, though it's not really applicable in your situation unless I'm wrong about the coupon code).
-
I would willingly buy right now if it weren't for the fact that I've tied myself to a strict budget and am loath to pay California taxes without a coupon. If I have to, I may end up buying in a few weeks, but that'll just mean watching my finances. Chalk it up to being a frugal middle class kid.

Has anyone tried the fatwallet deal in conjunction with student discounts?

Just called Hp and mentioned that I could get a better configuration (not mentioning if it has a lower resolution screen because cdw.com HP NV14-1010NR I5-450M 500GB 6GB W7P and other Notebook Computers at CDW.com does not specify) for less than what i payed and they said they would do a price match if you customized to the same configuration, so they might give you with 450 i5, 6GB Ram and 500GB HDD for $1170. But since i didnt have the same configuration they offered me $50 and i just took that because its less of a hassle. So if you bought an envy here is a chance to knock of $50 or get a cheap configuration.
I did use my student discount so they will still give $50 if you used one -
I'll hopefully, if all goes as planned, place an order today (it just hit midnight). We'll see...
Here's what I'm thinking:
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (To be upgraded to Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit, as I have a legitimate key through MSDN)
Intel Core i5-450M at 2.4GHz (2.66GHz max turbo)
4GB DDR3 System Memory (2x2GB DIMM)
500GB 7200RPM SATA HDD (To be put into an external enclosure and replaced with an OCZ Vertex 60GB)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1GB & Intel Integrated Graphics
14.5" 1600x900 LED backlit display
8-cell lithium ion battery (I'll pass on the battery slice for now)
Price: $1,214.99
Discount: -$121.50 (10% HPA)
Total: $1,170.03 (After taxes)
I'm thinking that looks perfect for me. This will be replacing my aging desktop for some time, until I eventually build a new one from scratch. -

kind of off topic but if anybody is looking for a good alternative to the envy 14, the Sony Vaio EA looks pretty good. comes with i5 520, not the best graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 GPU (512MB VRAM), 4GB Ram, and 320GB HDD for $920, Its pretty nice looking and is the same thickness and weight with an optical drive as the Envy 14. Battery life is 3.5 hrs on default setting so i think thats not power saver mode so it might get higher (idk though just guessing).
VAIO EA Series PC | Sony | SonyStyle USA
Just thought i would throw that out their, looked like a pretty good comp if you dont need the best discrete graphics. -
those laptops are more in the same quality level as hp pavilions, etc
envy has such a higher build and display quality over something like the EC -
Not to mention it lacks one of the main draws of the Envy 14: a 1600x900 Radiance screen.
-
my brother has a low-end vaio like the EC (i guess its predecessor) and the display SUCKS
not to mention shoddy build quality, heat, and noise -
Compromises are made as you start compromising on cost.

I never had a 1600x900 display on a laptop. How great is the improvement from a 1336x768? Excite me, someone!

14" LED-backlight widescreen, Core i3 350M, 4GB ram, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5650 1GB, 320GB harddrive, optical drive, etc. Normal usage with Wi-fi is 6 hours on power savings mode and on idle it is 8 hours. It uses switchable graphics between the HD 5650 & the Intel GMA. Black brushed aluminium lid, less than 1" thin, and weighs 4.65 pounds. It only costs $799. -
-
True but the Acer's Keyboard is horrendous, i Hate those cheap crappy plastic non island keyboards. if it was not for the keyboard and display i would get the timeline.

The screen is almost like every other budget laptop. They all have bad viewing angles. -
