I must have missed it, but:
What is the deal with returns on these laptops? If I buy a (customized) envy 14 and don't like it, can I return it for a full refund?
-
edit: dang, now I can't get that to work...??? -
-
-
Anyone think I'd have any luck "selling" Paint shop pro back to them if I called? I have photoshop cs5 (yay student edition) and have no need for the clutter..
-
I'm hoping this is the case, but... A few days ago, I was able to get to the HP online store through BCB when it was still 25% off. If I still have that same browser window open, would the 25% still be applied if I refresh it today and buy the Envy? Or is the % dependent on when you actually purchase?
-
Anyone went for the 450m to bench it ? ^^
-
Also, I have a Win 7 Pro license. I'm thinking of just installing that as soon as the laptop arrives. Does anyone expect difficulties in doing that? Not sure if my having configured the Envy 14 with a SSD makes a difference... -
Oh, and, I wouldn't bother with the Slice. After reading some comments on this thread about the price, I looked at HP's battery prices:
HP batteries | HP Official Store
Six and Nine cell are going for 75 dollars less than the Envy 14's Slice. Looks like it'll be another waiting game for that accessory to become affordable as well. -
they are soooo deceiving, what a bunch of rats. Even on the July fourth main sale image, it shows an hp envy laptop but there are no sales for it.
-
-
anyone have a comparison of the 450m and the 520m? is the 520m worth the extra $100?
-
edit: Thanks, ChemE! I'm about to buy an i520 with a SSD. I've never used an Envy line computer before, so knowing that I can return it if its not up to reputation is important to me. -
So the consensus is skip the slice for now right?

Just got mine through amazon guys
im in the club!! xD
BTW for all international buyers: You cannot order straight from HP (at least i couldnt). I know Amazon will take a little longer to ship but im ok with that. (besides, i got 1 day shipping from amazon for 10$ while 5-6 days was standard for HP.com so it balances out)
heres my specs.
Intel Core i5-450M processor 2.40GHz with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.66 GHz;
6GB DDR3 System Memory (3 DIMM)
500gig 7200rpm HD
i got it through amazon but the screen is wrong on their site. I know its still coming with the radiance since its default and the only option so its ok -

So I just bought my HP Envy 14!
Expected Build Date: Before July 7th
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
Core i5 - 520m
4GB (1 dimm) RAM
160GB SSD
That's about all the important things I chose. If I was rich I would have gotten the bigger SSD drive but I think 160gb will be enough for me. -

Does the E14 have the new hingeless uniform click Synaptics Clickpad?

Some of you smart computer people need to explain if the i520 vs i450 price difference is worth it.
I get bing at 5% now, so I am going to wait a bit see if it goes up for july 4th. Hopefully that won't completely delay my laptop. -
Compare Intel® Products
here is intels sheet comparing. Obviously the speed and the turboboost speeds are different. But the 430 does not support this AES encryption thing. Anyone explain what that is used for and would anyone need it? -

$1,428.44 after tax and shipping. No sir. Not til a coupon shows up. -
-
Is there any fallability in ordering today with education discount then if BCB goes up to 25% within the next X days (X = until July 7+ship time+21 day trial) canceling and reordering?
-
Do you have a link for like a comparison or list of the min/max/avg heat put off by the i5s?
-
-
Im pretty sure bing cash back will not go back up to 25% as they are going out of business in a few days or a week or so. Well maybe not out of business, they are just canceling it
-
i think @ $1099 they should put the minimum option of i5
with base i3, price must be $999 -
-
-
Is anyone going to do a clean install of the OS when they get theirs? I've had bad experiences with HP's bloatware in the past but it's always kind of a hassle.
-
the base price for the hp acadamic account is 989 .if you don't have an acadamic account, try this coupon LOGIC50. It's only 50bucks, but it's the only coupon I could find. Hope it works for you
-
-
The i5-450M should be similar to the Core i5-520M, but the 450M does not offer AES functions - From notebookcheck

-
after getting off the phone, this is what they had to say.
"The HP Envy on Amazon is a pre-built model, therefore the resolution is most likely correct"
while this is a bummer, its still a great display for me. Too bad i couldnt get it off HP.com. Damn me for being international! -
Just bought it configured with the i5-520m, 160 GB SSD and a 1-dimm configuration of 4 gigs of RAM. I also picked up the 2-year Care Pack, which seemed a little expensive, but combined with buying the laptop on an AMEX gives me three years of coverage. That's about all I really expect from a laptop.
July 7th ship date- we'll see how realistic that is!
Thanks very much to all the people who have been posting in these threads. I don't think I would have been able to make as nearly a well informed decision without everyone's comments. This forum is really fantastic, even if some of you guys are a little nuts about this stuff -
-
With the possibility of build date being pushed back more if I wait too long, im thinking of biting the bullet and ordering now without any coupon (I'm not thinking 25% BCB will be coming back)
I'm looking at the 430M, 4GB, 500GB HD with the student discount for $1,048
Not too bad. I know I read earlier someone saying something about if they would release a coupon or up BCB to 25% calling HP and saying hey, I already have this order in for blah, however, there is now this offer that will save me $150. Can you simply refund me $150 so I don't have to go through the hassle of returning my original perfectly fine laptop and reordering at a cheaper price? Would that work? And if it didn't work I always could just go through with sending back the original and getting another one cheaper...
Thoughts? -
$50 coupon is the only one that works so far...
LOGIC50 -
nvm I figured it out

For some, it might be worth considering the i3 processor. The only thing lacking is turbo boost. The i3 starts at a higher clock speed of 2.4 whereas the i5 430 has a clock speed of 2.26 GHz which can turbo-boosted to 2.533 Ghz. crap like aes instructions doesn't apply to u
also, it might be worth considering newer processors (those released late 2010). they might have made some optimizations (power consumption efficiency) that aren't listed on the intel website nor in third-party sites since they are relatively new.

and thats only if your not in student discounts
