No, but it is a way to help others get the best value for their dollar.
Regarding accidental protection, that's up to each individual. I have only had one accident with all of laptops I've owned/used over the years (probably a good 15+ laptops). The repair was $250. That $250 is a lot cheaper than ~ $100-150 you'd pay EVERY year. Sure it may hit you in the gut at the time, but unless you're accident prone, it won't affect you much. Just treat it like its your baby. If you're that accident prone, you might be better off with a Toughbook as it will last you longer![]()
I'm waiting for the 25% BCB as well. Funny how HP would be getting probably dozens more sales if the BCB was at least 20% or a $250 to $300 coupon. I'd buy today if I could get at least $250 off.
The whole configuration threw me for a loop too: 1600x900 screen standard and only option, i3-370m standard, no 540m CPU, THREE quad core CPU options, $200 slice battery! (???). If the 25% BCB comes back I'll have to decide between the slice battery or 160GB SSD.
edit: WHOA! 160GB SSD just jumped from $325 to $275... lol
-
Get the Z13 then. A 1080 res on a 13" or 14" display is ridiculous. FHD still has really high pixel density on a 15" laptop. I don't really see a need for anything above the 1600x900 display on the Envy 14 as it is plenty pixel-dense.
Please stop telling people what to do. -
Um, I have read at least 5 different owner's pages and there is always talk of deals. I for one like to know what the best deal is.
Funny, 4 guys got on the noob with only 12 posts for trying to admonish another. SNAP! Back in line my friend.
BTW, I did order the vaio. I checked it out in the store at 1600X900 and read everything fine. The Envy is more than 10% larger, so the 1080 res would only be 10% smaller than it looks on the Z. Granted I did not stare at the screen for over 1 hour.
Anyways, if 1080 works on a 15 inch, why not on a 14.5"?
Lastly, I am also disappointed in no i5-540. Why the hell not? Doesn't it fit on the same motherboard? What do they not have other computers that carry the cpu? Of course they do. This is just stupid. -
price is the ultimate tipping point on all NOTEBOOKREVIEWS
-
What is the credit card that gives the extended warranty coverage, and what is the coverage? I'm going to see if my parents have that, then I'll just pay them for it...
-
Question is, when is everyone's expected build date? I'm going to be ordering mine within the hour and it says July 7th on the buy page.
I'm just so torn on the slice battery. It's extra battery life and it forms to the laptop! But for $200..? err -
Exactly. They nearly all have this as a topic of conversation.
As long as posts stay on topic, they are permissible. (And a little off-topic is cool too just don't get carried away with it. ) -
Yea touchbook / envy warranties are pretty expensives.
Also... Getting the accidental coverage warranty on the envy configurator page = 409$
Getting the accidental warranty on this page 3-year Laptops laptops and mini PCs | HP Official Store by a phonecall up to one year after purchase (or right when you broke your screen lol) ...
Price: $349.99*
Must be purchased during standard warranty period of PC
Plan must be registered and activated as instructed in HP Care Pack materials
One plan per product
Does not cover preexisting damage to applicable hardware (well I think if you wait two weeks with your cracked screen envy that's settled lol)
Available only in the United States
Anyways just order with no additional warranty but the 1 year no accidental one, then call to hp to ask up to when you can purchase an additional warranty, in any case you save 50$ and according to hp's website you can extend your warranty as long as you have the base one (1 year no accidental) still running. -
Maybe wait and buy one later unless you need the extra battery power now. I sure hope even as an aftermarket part it won't cost more than $200 in a few months. Or just deal with swapping two batteries.
-
what time did this laptop show up on the site?
also, are we certain that
One 8 Cell Lithium Ion (standard) +One 6-Cell Extended-Life Lithium-Ion Polymer Battery (over-sized)
is the slice battery? -
I'm thinking about doing the swapping. The extra heft of the slice might be annoying for daily use. I could just throw the extra battery in the bag that I'm carrying the Envy in, I guess.
-
That's true, I'm taking it to college and I'll already have a self-built desktop (I like computers
), so the amount of use is really just going to be for class, studying/working with friends, and the occasional game on the go. I guess if my battery life just is awful I'll pony up then.
-
In the consumer section, sometime before 5AM EST.
-
How does one do this? Does it have to be with HP or can I also do this with my recent (within 30 days) vaio purchase? Please inform us of the details, for it could save us a bunch of $$$$$
-
I really hope that you won't run into issues with your lappy!
Don't forget to let us know when you'll have your baby home haha
Congratulations
-
It's not much, but...

$10 is $10.

Extremely anticlimatic release by HP. Extra $100 was a bit of a surprise, as was the lack of an I5-540M. I've never seen an I3-370M offered anywhere,. Even still, I don't think it will be a big seller. 10% is the best discount offered ATM? I have to be honest, If I didn't have my Acer 3820TG coming, I would probably still buy it.
The 4GB 1Dimm for $25 would be almost a mandatory upgrade for me as well as the 160GB SSD ($315 is a great price, which falls below $300 with 10% off - you get a 160GB SSD for the price of a 128GB SSD.
)
Can't wait for reviews and, in particular, to see if HP has made a 14" unit with no heat problems. Congratulations to all new Envy 14 owners. It has been a long wait.

I have no idea about warranty for a VAIO but for an HP use this link:
Warranty -
160GB SSD is now $275! Now it's almost a no-brainer especially if 25% BCB comes back.
-
Don't know if this was posted or not but check here for coupon codes:

2.0, they're all expired.
-
NBA5193862 is expired. Must have reached max uses. You did get me excited there for a second.
-
I'm really apprehensive about the cooling and battery life on this thing...I just got an Envy 15 with the i7 quad and it gets hot (almost as much as a MBP) and has a 2 hour battery life.
The Envy 14 has the same i7 quad configurable, adds an internal drive, and is smaller... -
Bronsky, no Envy for you?
-
Nahs, yo. They had the exp date wrong. On the other sites it says 6/24.
-
I just noticed that i3-370m is a 2core/4thread 2.4Ghz.. not bad really although the upgrade price is cheap for i5 with turbo, but hey it's not too much of a let down for an i3.
Intel® Core? i3-370M Processor (3M cache, 2.40 GHz) with SPEC Code(s) SLBUK -
How much would an aftermarket 8 cell battery usually cost? Is $75 a good deal?
-
Ok, so another waiting game, sigh, this time for a good deal. Bring out the turtle!
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I only see 10% BCB.
I'm a student so with the academic discount I get 10% off anyways,
and BCB and AD can't be combined.
I'm about to click checkout. Anybody wanna correct me? -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Failures of the Envy 14 config:
- Processors - weak base processor, high upgrade cost to i5-520m, no higher dual-cores
- $200 slice battery, which isn't even properly identified on the configuration page
- $100 higher base price than advertised.
- No good discounts on release date (asking for too much? maybe, but they've set a precedent with other models, and they're not sticking to it here)
Successes -
- Sweet-a$$ laptop
- Radiance Display standard (would cancel out the $100 price hike if not for the processor debacle)
Overall conclusion - Live with a weaker processor, wait for better discounts, find guy responsible for pricing and spec options, punch him in the nose, and steal the slice battery out of his Envy 14. -
There ought to be some July 4th sales or codes...
-
You can find those on ebay for 50$/unit top from hong kong after release... In us shops it most likely to be 100$-125$
Thats an example for the envy 13 battery ( http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Original-4-..._Batteries&hash=item53e1f0ec46#ht_688wt_1137). -
Don't buy an extra battery until you need it. It's a combination of an electrolytic and galvanic cell (when in use vs. charging), so half of it is an irreversible chemical reaction, meaning it won't hold charge as long even if you haven't used it at all until the 2 years it takes for your first to die.
That is, unless you want to use it simultaneously with your other one. I think the slice would be a better option then, but it's so dang expensive. -
Oh, there are. They just don't include the envy line..

none of the good ones on that coupon site work.
-
No envy for me ATM.
I ordered an Acer 3820TG from Germany a week or so ago.
So, no ... I'm passing on the Envy. I will be upgrading the Acer to an I7-620M, backlit keyboard, SSD and new wireless card soon after it arrives. I'm going to use it with an external 22" LG at the office so the display was not as important to me in the long run. I went with the portability. It was a tough choice.

Question! 4GB of RAM is more than enough for what I do with at least today's programs. In 4 years do you think I"ll need to upgrade to 8GB?
I'm completely on the fence whether or not I should stick with 2 dimms or 1 of 4GB. -
Considering that all processors have TDP rating of 35 watt I dont expect batteries to last long
-
1 dim. It's only $25, and chances are, in 2 years you will be ready to upgrade.
-
I don't see those as big cons. I agree the slice battery is expensive, but we'll likely see that go down at some point. You even answered the $100 more base price issue yourself. We all assumed the base price was going to be $999, but we also all assumed it would have the 1366x768 display as the standard display, and that the upgrade would cost $100. I suppose you don't have the option of a low-res display anymore, but who cares. I for one would have immediately opted for the 1600x900 screen.
It's only a $25 upgrade to an i5-430M, which we thought was going to be the base processor, assuming the videos about it having an i5 in the base model were true. The i5-520M upgrade does cost a bit much, but whatever. I might just stick with the i5-450M. It's $50 more and is a solid performer.
Anyhow, I think I'll have to bite on the Envy 14 in a few days here. I need to scratch together the funds first. Who knows, maybe the 25% BCB will roll back around. If not, I'm just going with my 10% HPA discount, or a coupon if one comes out. -
im so pissed they lied about the starting price
-
Quick question!
Which discounts stack?
Will a "Coupon Code" stack with the 10% Education discount?
Or
Will a "Coupon Code" stack with a 10-25% Bing Cash Back discount?
I know BCB and the Education discount DO NOT stack, at this point.
Is it possible to stack multiple "Coupon Codes?"
I agree with the unsettled posters, as well; the 100 dollar base price increase, B.S. CPU options and a very expensive Slice battery pretty much peed in our pudding this morning. -
I'm having trouble getting ANY coupon working with the academic discount on. I'm not sure if that's because they're expired or because I have the academic discount on.
-
yes
no
right
if they're stackable. just play around with it..it'll show up if it works. -
Say that to the Macbook Pro.
-
100$ base price increase? dont see it.... but yes the CPU options are BS... but we'll live. Slice? nty I don't need it that much lol
and discounts dont stack.. ever -
Follow up question!
Can it be safely assumed that this thread is the proper thread on notebookreview.com to find HP Envy 14 Coupon Codes first? -
1099 - 999 = 100
-
So build date of July 7th huh? That means users here might have them in their hands a week later? Was hoping to see some user reviews before that, but oh well.
-
Someone would link them very quickly if and when they do pop up
