If you're thinking about doing something as ambitious as that, I would honestly wait for a few professional reviews to come out before purchasing.
-
Where are the reviews?!
-
For all wondering when it was 10-25%...it was 10%. I ordered during that window, and got the email back confirming I had gotten 10% off.
-
I just called HP to check if I could upgrade my HDD and the lady said, "I see that you have purchased our top selling HP notebook." I told her that the E14 just came out earlier on today. How'd you know that it's the topseller?

dunno.
also, totally feeling the barebones basic model now. with an academic discount (once I get the damn academic account stuff to work).
320 gigs is fine for now (I'm on 100 gigs, I have a 250 and 500 external...plus another 160 that's gathering dust/was converted to be used with another thing).
4 gigs of ram is plenty.
i3 370m is the same as the i5 450m just with slightly weaker integrated graphics and no turbo mode. (not sure if turbo mode of .2ghz would even be worth it or how turbo mode works) -
Guys, if you really try hard enough you can get 10% from student/epp account and then another 10% from bing. Got my confirmation from bing as well yesterday. I got my discounts stacked this way:
1) Login to your epp/student account
2) Configure you Envy 14
3) Hit the Add to Cart, leave this window open!
4) Open new window, go to bing shopping
5) Find the HP Direct store logo that says 10%, hit the link
6) This will take you to the new page with bing (laptop is still in cart) - stay on this page!
7) Hit checkout and pay and wait for bing confirmation email. -
i3 370 is the best for battery life anyway. I remember reading on ul30jt series that if you disabled the turbo function of the cpu you gained about 2 hours of battery life for surfing (from 7 to 9h) because turbo gets activated for flash banners while browsing :/
-
I guess that's worth a shot, but they might invalidate it later. They do wait 60 days before giving you the cash, so it might not end up getting the discount since it's against their ToS.

Ive seen a few people talking about getting the i7s.
Anyone worried that these same processors used in the Envy 17 put in a smaller package wont be that great of and idea? or is the cooling of the 14 supposedly better?
I understand the difference between the Envy 14s 5650 and 17s 5830 makes a mark as well.
But how could HP expect the 14 to not become a open fire?
Just wondering as i was formerly considering the i7 but will now probably get the 520 due the many issues on possible heating.
any thoughts? -

Wwhheerrreee Are You Coouponsss

if the HP DM4 overheats with integrated graphics, how much better is the Envy 14 going to fare, given its slimmer profile, built in ATI 5650, and the E15/E17's well known problems? I want to give this a chance, but HP doesn't seem to have managed to clear up the heat problems on its previous machines.

Has anyone tried digging out of a phone rep what the make/model of the 256GB SSD is?
-
Edit: Does anyone know the make and model of the wireless and bluetooth? I'd love to see a 6200/6300 intel chip. -

$1 norton is too much to pass up on (and can be resold probably...maybe...we'll have to see).
edit: to buy or to wait on a coupon -
Since it has 3 USB ports, an HDMI port, and a mini-display port, can you connect 5 monitors :O The graphics card can do it, and the envy 17 can :s

I wonder if the amazon model will ship before you guys get yours

Well, I'm super glad to see Verizon modules, because I can now save 400 dollars on the laptop with my company discount. Hoping BCB shoots back up to 25%, my price paid will be $810.74, with tax.
Definately excited now. -

Regardless of the fact that he's incorrectly trying to claim I'm on the losing end, I'll give him a slide since English is clearly not his first language and that likely led to comprehension issues for him. Though if you, 2.0, want to execute his permanent ban out of sheer principle, I won't have any problem with that either. -
Is the price on the HP site after customization on the far right with or without tax? and how much would the tax be or is it dependent on the state?
Thanks -
Also, is it even worth it for the 500gb HDD upgrade? On newegg you can get a 640GB drive for less than the price of the upgrade to the 640GB HP one.
Also, what do you think is better:
-That Costco 2 yr warranty someone was saying earlier for $100
-or a SquareTrade 3 yr one for $200 (I don't know where u guys keep seeing $300, when i get a quote, it's $200)
-or I guess an HP one -
Love to order immediately, but BCB is too important especially with the prices of the higher-end processors and the (I'm assuming) slice battery (+$200!)

i really want to know how far the screen tilts back on this. i know the hp envy 15 couldnt tilt back much at all and thats something i cant deal with
-
is no one else going for the 160GB (Solid State Drive Flash Module)? I mean, aren't SSD's supposed to increase performance by like 10x? I even hear its greater than upgrading RAM.
I'm a novice, so pardon my language.

The biggest difference people see is in the bootup time and in loading huge programs like games. -

I'm waiting for prices to drop on SSDs first. I can def deal with an HDD for now for > 10x price (savings).
But seriously, does anyone know of any good cooling solutions?
e.g. for on a desk, or on a bed?
coz my i7 is going to be on FIRE!!! (figuratively and literally) -
The only hiccup is HPs total care for the Envy says it is for Envy, HDX, and dragon (something like that) and I'm not 100% sure that the Costco HP total care pacakge covers the envy. -
I just ordered with my AMEX card 90 day accidental or theft protection...and doubles manufacture warranty. I have used it before, they do stick to their word.
-
Meh, I dont understand why people couldnt just wait for the coupons or bing 25%.
-
Ah! I got it! Who needs the DVD drive, i'll replace it with some more fans! I mean there's even a [small] slit for the air to be pulled from!
any1 want a spare drive? I never wanted one anyway...
Seriously tho, who here is upset that they put the disk drive back in?
*raises hand* -

That and I need this sucker by the 16th for PDX 500 -
