    Intel G2.

I also would like to know brand of 256GB SSD. Not that I can afford it, but just in case we get some crazy coupons or something.

Well that's my point, the i3 has more battery life than i5 because it lacks this turbo boost (370m is a 520m with turbo boost off...), but anyway you'll have the same battery life on an i5 if you go in the bios and disable intel's turbo.

On an other note I don't understand people going for i7 in an envy 14 laptop, there's already cooling problems in the envy 17 with less powerfull QM cores .
A QM performs worse than a i5 in single threaded apps. And as good as a i5 in four threaded apps...
Unless you use 8 threaded applications I don't see the benefit of going for a quad core... losing battery, heating like mad, and having no graphic switch for only that is beyond my logic, a quad core belongs into a desktop computer.

I'm not even speaking of the throttling issues that happen on such processors at high temperature... that may even negate the hypothetical gain on 8 threaded operations compared to an i5.
Another negative point is that quad cores (at least the 720QM) have no improved AES operations support... it sound so damn stupid to me when the only possible apps using 8 threads I know are actually encryption/decoding applications...

im gonna put an i7 620m in my envy14 tho. I may also do some cooling mods near the graphics card drill a few holes and put direct air blowing onto it to get a nice overclock on it. I have almost 3000 to spend on this envy 14 so I'm going all out no stops. I want the highest benching envy 14 in the world.

But on topic, I'll probably wait for a bigger discount than 10%, accidental warranty would be a good idea for college, but from HP it costs way too much. May go the Costco route although I would rather have 3 years, but the lojack is a nice addition. Now, do I have 30 days from the purchase date or from the ship date if I buy it from Costco?

Meh I might just sell my ultimate key I have now and just use home premium. I never used any of the ultimate features anyways I just got it cause it sounds cool. Any interest in an unused Ultimate Key for 95 bucks? Don't want to have an extra key sitting here doing nothing.

Someone received G1 and someone received G2.
I'm just worried about HP will do the same on the Envy 14.

I don't all I have is the key. Got if off a friend for very cheap when he ended up just using win xp. All I got is the disc and the key on a sticker on the disc. It is unused though and ready to go. If you want the disc with it I'd charge an extra 10 so 105. So everyone don't pay HP +200 to upgrade to Windows Ultimate. Pay me 95! That's even cheaper then the windows 7 pro upgrade hp charges +120

No some people got G1's it was random but I think people with G1's were able to return the laptop and say they wanted a G2. I'm sure HP is running out of stock on the G1's though so chances are it will be a Gen 2. Hell I think the G3's are supposed to be out soon. I think they will be 25nm instead of 32nm and be cheaper and offer 320GB soon

I asked envy 17 people, their processors are not soldered. So that's it I'm just gonna go for the i3 370m to try out this new twice as fast dmi bus and upgrade to a i7 620m or next gen dmi equivalent in the future.

Uh, HP doesn't have retail locations in most states, do they? It wants to add over $100 in tax, and I thought a net-based purchase like this wouldn't have tax unless there was a local retail outlet, unless something changed.

    Just a heads-up. i5 520M for $170.00, i5-540M $210.00, i7-620M $200-250.00 according to eBay.com.

Looks like I'll be getting the stock i3-370M. Too bad I can't guess a price to resell it at! $100.00?

    Ebay & screwdriver

Ofc i'll have to check HP bios updates to see if 620m support will be there... but since it already supports the all new 450m and 370m I bet the motherboard can already handle a 620m or 540m.

    Also,

$120.00 for 1X4GB DDR3 1066MHZ RAM on eBay.com. Which means upgrading through HP is like burning a one hundred dollar bill.

SSDs are about 20% cheaper from eBay.com as well.

These prices are from Buy It Now listings. Just my two cents.

I'd definitely take the new 370 instead of the old 430, base dual core clock (the one you'll use when multitasking or in newer games) is higher on the 370.
Theres no benches out yet but my assumption is that on multi core bench the 370 performs better than the 430, while the 430 performes better in single core bench.

    I'd definitly take a 450m over a 370m and a 370m over a 430m if I was forced to choose.

    http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=43537,49020,43122,47341,49022,

    Here's a good comparison page.
Turboless 370m runs dual core at 2,4 ghz no single core turbo but it's got the faster DMI bus (not sure how it translates as a power gain since theres no benches out yet)
Turbo off 430m runs dual core at 2,26 ghz while being 2,533 ghz on single core.

Even tho the performance difference will be non noticable you'll get more bang for your bucks out of a 370m

Is having 4.8GT/s DMI even going to make a boost in ram speed. 2.5GT = over 300MB a sec. How much and how fast does ram push data towards the processor. Does Ram even saturate the 2.5 link?

Got no idead, for sure single core operations won't ever sature the 2.5 link, but full load dual core with 4 threads ? Theres a chance 2.5 becomes limitating there, if not I don't see why intel is doing this move to upgrade their i core lines.

370M or 450M definitely looks like best way to go for now, and they are looking to be the "2nd generation" 32nm Arrandales.

The thing with turbo boost is that it only reaches that number on single core, and the other CPU is going to get binned. With such small difference in no turbo vs turbo on these budget i5's, the margin is going to be even less for the other CPU.

So only thing 450M has over 370M is integrated graphics frequency (766 vs 667) and turbo boost to 2.66 GHz for one core, and the other will be less than that. With 5650 first point is moot, so the question is - is $75 worth 266 MHz boost to one core for you?

I am looking to buy an Envy 14 but I can't find any coupons that don't pop up as expired when I use them. Even the bing 25% cash back seems to be unavailable now. Is anyone aware of any active coupons, discounts and is willing to share. Any help will be appreciated.

    Thank you

I ordered it, and at that time this thread had only 20 pages.
I took a nap, woke up, and now it has 40 lol.

I don't wanna read through it all.

I ordered it, no complaints, although I AM mad that it had a surprise INCREASED base price, WITHOUT the i5 that they had promised for 999.

And I spoke with an HP representative.
Coupons won't be available for a while.
And I know a friend who works in HP, but employee benefits don't really make that much of a difference either. BCB at this time have low rates, and your best bet is to use the academic discount to get the best deal.
Well, if you wanna order it NOW that is :]

    Nope.
She did say it was super popular right now, and they think that if you order it later, it'll take longer to make and ship, due to the popularity.

So coupons are still a mystery.
And apparently if you wait for coupons to come out, you might have to wait a whole month to receive it.

That's a LOT of waiting. Too much for me :S

    Just get it now. lol
