I've seen mine change states and currently in production. Hope I see Shipping by Thursday!

Good to know:
Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives (HD) and solid-state drives (SSD), 12.5-mm (.49-in) and 9.5-
mm (.37-in) thicknesses
So the 1TB Western digital caviar blue notebook drive will fit if anyone's looking to upgrage to a big hard drive -
Meh, I think it would be better if they just made all the Envy line black like the Beats edition. It's a much better look, in my opinion. Whatever, I'm not buying this thing for aesthetics. Form factor, power, build quality, battery life. All important to me.
-
-
Definitely gonna wait for this. Hopefully you'll be able to upgrade to the 1600x900 radiance screen!
-
Good to hear about a possible Beats Edition of the Envy 14! Too bad the screen option sucks vs the standard model...

When is Phase 2? I really wanna play
-
Note about the service manuals... first editions are generally error prone to one degree or another.
I can't see them offering a premuim beats edition with non-premium options. -
The DVD play test also did 5 hours and some odd minutes. compare that to the 2.5 hours here.. I think I'm going to pick up the $999 MBP from Microcenter over the Envy. I don't game as much anymore and I like the smaller form factor of the MBP, battery life is a huge plus and although the 320m is pretty weak, it'll take care of SCII and WoW and occasional other steam games especially with the 1280x800. I dunno, I think seeing the HP machines at Best Buy and messing with an Envy 15 made me realize how much better the build quality of the MBP's were. Trackpads cannot even compare.. only the fact that they're oversized and no extra buttons. We'll see if I regret not going full performance, but 13.3 is my size over a 14.5
-
About 2 weeks before July 27 =D
-
Two weeks, eh? Do we need to opt in if we want a free beta key? I'd rather not buy the game to get the key until I can determine my class study load is low enough. -
I think I'll stick with the Envy 14. After holding a Dell Vostro 3400 (it's a 14" laptop that is about the same form factor as the Envy 14), I think 14.5 is a fine size for a laptop, as long as it's not huge and thick. Especially with the Envy 14 having a 1600x900 display.
The 4 hour battery life is disappointing, but I guess I'll get a slice later. -
I currently own a Macbook Pro 13.3" Unibody and as long as you're okay with a laptop that can actually burn you due to the bottom getting extremely hot, go for it.
On the flip side the battery life is phenomenal. lol -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
huh. So it DOES support the 540m as an option.
just HP CTO isn't using it.
also there IS a 1366x768 screen option. Somewhere. in some model.
not looking good for amazon.
edit: and there is a whole 'nother page where this was already addressed.
whelp.
Anyway looks like they'll let you replace the wlan (wireless adapter) without voiding the laptop's warranty. So that's nice (if you don't like the broadcomm and get the broadcomm) -
Honestly, I think you'll be perfectly satisfied with the MBP. Especially at that price. If I didn't require windows, MBP and/or iMAC would be on my short list. They are remarkable computers. I've recommended and purchased them for family and friends and they've all been extremely happy with them. That's not to say that I'm in any way dissatisfied with my HP notebooks. They've all held up very well. But then I'm a neat freak-geek (OCD-TCD*) who sort of babies his kit.
* Technological compulsory disorder. <---no, I didn't make that up. Ok maybe a little. -
Sorry to bring this back up, i just got home from the gym, but where is everyone getting their AP scores? I really want to see my shiny calc BC 5
and hopefully my 3+ on physics c and english.
Going back to the envy, you guys are scaring me a bit. I ordered mine with the i7 740. Should get shipped tomorrow  , but is it really not worth it? I need at least 2.5hrs of battery to last through a lecture while being online getting powerpoints, etc that the professor gives out. I also have the 500gb hdd which means even more battery sucking. I dont know if i can handle sending it back and waiting another two weeks for an i5. -
I dont understand why people care so much about trackpads... as long as they work whats the big deal?
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
Huh. I just noticed the i3 370m is a 25 w processor on the HP manual.
could save some battery life with that guy.
edit: ..though it's 35w on intel's ark website. so who knows. -
HP first edition manuals are error prone.
-
Where's this option to for the 540? It won't show up when I customize the notebook on HP's website.
-
That's because it's not an option.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah. it's just a possibility.
but it's only being put in some of the foreign editions (Taiwan one for example) -
lol nice. I had a unibody MB for 8months and never had problems with the heat like that.. but I'll be ready for it! SMCfan ftw
Speaking for myself, it's because I use it a ton. Often times I just sit around and scroll web pages, watch vids without ever really typing. A trackpad on a portable machine is big. For a mouse, I have the bluetooth orochi if I have desktop space. I probably would be saying the same thing you are but having owned a glass trackpad MB before.. it's hard to lose it =D -
wow, a 14 beats edition would go great with my 15 beats...
-
That manual states for the screen :
Total power consumption 6.0 W
Seems my math was right for consumption !
Off : 0w
On min : 2w
On max : 6w -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
heh. wait on the 14 beats to show up.
*glances at the dvd-drive info* Oh you better be able to burn DL discs. I'll be disappointed if you're a step down from what's in my old computer. -
Touchpads/Trackpads tend to be good in varying degrees. Many of us would like to have multitouch gestures. Synaptics has recently had some success in this arena. I've managed to get 2-finger scroll up and working on my Asus. I can even open up Google, Gmail, and Facebook using Synaptics Scrybe. I'm now looking for ways to configure 3-finger and 4-finger gestures.
EDIT: In a way, it's like comparing GPSes. Sure, all or at least most GPSes are able to tell you how to get to that restaurant 10 miles away. But some tend to do the job better than others. Some models at the worse end will screw up and get you lost. Others will give you the shortest routes possible but also give you traffic warnings which could factor into longer travel times. For some of us, a bigger touch screen is a huge plus, and a feature-rich GPS with a huge screen that can give you accurate directions and traffic warnings can lead to less stress and time saved. -
Can't you run Win7 on an MBP though? Wipe out OSX and run Win7?
Well why can't they make it like the Palm grafitti software? I mean really is it that hard? Just program it to recognize certain gestures. The technology has been around for 20 years for crying out loud. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah. but some of the things that work really well on osx don't work as well on win 7 (touchpad gestures, battery life, etc)
-
Hmmm... now I might just wait for the Beats Edition 14 (whenever that comes out... and seeing if HD+ screen is available as an upgrade/included as well as other options) or jump on the standard 14 if big coupons or a 15-25% BCB come out. I'll see which one comes first as I am willing to wait (on my first paycheck...
). Double win if 25% BCB + Beats 14 arrive at the same time (highly unlikely but if it did, that would be jackpot!).
-
I'm assuming the BCB is Bing Cashback. If so, "The Bing cashback program will be discontinued to advertisers and consumers on July 30, 2010 at 9:00pm PST." Probably isn't news to most of you, if not all. Still worth mentioning I guess.
-
how does "14.5-in, LED, HD+, AntiGlare, flush glass WVA display assembly for use only on standard computer
models" suck vs the standard model? Their both 1600x900. Because personally "AntiGlare" is an upgrade in my book. -
wonder how the sound is on this bad boy with the whole beats audio
-
But it'd be better than 4 hours right?
Right. Which is why I'm willing to wait another three weeks before purchasing my Envy. I know I can get the 10% academic discount. Hoping that there will be one more BCB 25% off by July 30 as has been in the past many times before. And even then HP might throw up a $200-$250 coupon (or more) if BCB doesn't go back up again.
I guess it helps to not be in a hurry for a new laptop. If I were, I would have ordered by now, well in about a week when I'll have my funds together for it. -
Yup! Just hoping for anything more than 10% BCB before the program ends. If not, I'll just be ordering with the 10% student discount.
-
I run some prop software and hardware which doesn't run in bootcamp or in a VM so that counts me out. Plus gaming during downtime.
Heh, downtime. I miss that.
Though I am getting an iPAD. And I have an iPod. That's gotta count for sumpin'.
Amirite? -
Does Palm grafitti really let you do that? I'm not very software-savvy.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
4 hours 44 minutes with mobile mark 2007 or something if random google searching helps. -
the hp envy 15 weighs less than the 14
-
Well, you could program gestures to do certain things, granted it used a stylus, but same thing. I had about four Palm generations starting with the Palm III, last one was the Palm TX. Awesome little handheld.
But I wanted my PIM in my phone. Unfortunately that hasn't worked out for me really, seeing as how my phone has fallen apart after about nine months (Nokia E71 no less). Keys missing, camera doesn't work, random freezes, etc. I am about to send it in before the 1 year warranty though, and then probably sell the refurb they will most likely send back to me since my sister is letting me join her phone plan and Verizon doesn't use E71. -
I'm going by the screen description found in the pdf:
14.5-in, LED, HD, AntiGlare, flush glass SVA display assembly for use only on Beats Edition computer models
14.5-in, LED, HD, AntiGlare, flush glass SVA display assembly for use only on standard computer models
14.5-in, LED, HD+, AntiGlare, flush glass WVA display assembly for use only on standard computer models
The HD+ 1600x900 resolution screen and WVA are only for the standard model. The HD screen is just the 1366x768 resolution screen. They all have AntiGlare. Basically, the Beats Edition seems to only be getting the 1366x768 screen... but I guess we will have to wait for release to see for sure.
Edit: I said the Beats Edition Envy 14's screen sucks vs the standard model. You quoted the standard model's screen vs itself... -
E14 has DVD drive and 8-cell battery, E15 has no optical drive and 6-cell battery. Probably makes up the difference.
-
Yeah that could work. but idk if the envy 15 in canada are still the sucky 1st gen ones XP
Also I mean most of my work is cpu dependent right? the only GPU dependent work is probably 3D and CAD (but if they use multi-thread) then its also CPU intensive. So IMHO I don't know =/ Im beat
-
let's remember that 1) the 14 has the radiance display and b) the 15 gets hotter than hell
-
Just check the GPU. If it comes with the 5830, then it's the refreshed version.
-
Ehh, I'll need a guide for how to get that on a touchpad. -
i cant see it being anything to write home about; it's "Beats", not a real high end audio company
-
does anyone know when the beats 15 was released compared to the envy 15?
-
Really? One of the reasons I was drawn to this laptop was because I heard "beats" audio is the best you can get on a laptop...
Is this not true?
edit: and if not... what are some examples of laptops with good loud clear audio? -
1. True. But I don't know if that's all that important for tech/school work. Great for multimedia though. Really great.
2. There is that. But isn't that mostly a function of high CPU utilization and/or gaming? I have to go browse the E15 Gen2 thread.
