Is it installing to the same directory? This shouldn't happen. If you cannot get it to install...email TriDef tech support...they are great about getting back to you pretty quickly.
The version you are downloading is the 4.5.1, correct???

So as to my couple days with the Envy.... AMAZING!!!
After an almost 8 month ordeal of exchanging Envy upon Envy and living with dv7s from Costco, I finally have my dream laptop.
No dead pixels, no scratches, dents, only thing is the click pad close to me on the right edge is perhaps less than 1/3 mm raised, but so what? I've learned that exchanging these Envy's with HP is a crapshoot. If one thing is ok, another is bad, so if its barely minor, its a winner.
After spending a full day and a half of priming, installing, etc....I can finally rest a bit. The SSD is amazing. Not sure why I've waited so long, but those still on the sidelines, get an SSD when you have a chance.
Just want to add a special thanks to Bobmitch, truly a stand up person all around. Can't thank you enough for helping to get the setup right.
Now....let's see what this baby can really do!!!

I just reinstalled 4.5.1 and the same thing. Still have the old Ignition. I guess I will have to email them. Another strange thing is that if I run TriDef Display setup and click yes when it asks me to set up for an ENVY it takes me to TriDef Experience, and if I click no it takes me to the control panel.
-
Glad to help! The baby will do alot! Enjoy the machine...you truly deserve a great experience!

It is set to 120 HZ. The 3D works great for movies and all other games. It is only FSX giving me trouble, so it must be something with the game and not the 3D.
Thanks for all the quick responses and advice. I really appreciate it. -

Again...just a thought...check with TriDef about FSX. OR...go to the website...join the forums and see if someone has actually written a profile for it. That has never been an easy game to run.... -
i downloaded this and i couldnt get any sound in my envy. how did you do it?
any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance! -
Yesterday my Envy17 froze again while copying files over the WiFi Connections. Seems like I'll have to try older drivers too :-( Why isn't HP (or whoever) not able to solve this themselves :-<
-
Hey, I was getting the same issue with my new envy. Ever since I did the previous driver for the wifi card I havent encountered a freeze.
-
120c is crazy insane. Intel lists 100c as the absolute maximum, and since the GPU and CPU share the same heat sink I think we have to infer that the GPU also can operate at 100c absolute maximum. 97 is ok at least for short periods of time, but one has to realize that if you want the product to live well beyond the warranty period it would be best not to run things near the absolute maximums
to find out if yours is a 20xx or 21xx model:
go to hp.com and click on "support and drivers". For example, here is the U.S Enblish support siteclick "detect your product". or type in your model/product number and hit search -
Which one are you using now? Still any freezes?

Is the 17 Envy 2070NR like they sell on Amazon Sandy Bridge Equipped? I can't find any mention of it in any of the specs.
I've got a little over $600 in Amazon credits/promo dollars so I'm down to one of these or the Asus G73SW-A1.
Any thoughts on the two choices? One over the other?
Thank you
Jim -
yes the 20xx models are sandy bridge
-
dlleno, not sure if you read my earlier post, but I'm loving my Envy 100% +!!!
She really is one amazing piece of tech.
I'm sitting with anticipation for you regarding the June 15 reveal.... I would suggest you get yours with an SSD or install one later. Not sure if you've ever experienced one, but OMG, its crazy good.
You have been and are super patient.... What is it they say? Good things come to those who wait.
P.S. Any of you guys planning on doing some videos of your Envy 17 3D SB? We have some, but could use more.

Thank you. Now just deciding which one.

mxnut, welcome to the NBR forums, and our Envy thread.
You will find lots of great info to get the most out of your Envy. People here are very knowledgable and quick to respond. Also, if I may suggest, get an SSD for the Envy. I'm a new convert. Never understood the fuss, now I'm like, where have I been?
Will never go back to C drive/ OS on a non SSD drive.

Thank you. Lots of good info here. I was looking at a 17" Envy about a year ago and some medical bills took that off the table but then I built up all these Amazon credits so I'm back in the market. With those credits I can get a pretty awesome laptop for about $900 bucks out of pocket.
SSD will probably been a later upgrade. I do hear good things about them. Since I have to order from Amazon I'll have to take what they have right now,
Jim -
+1 with Joe on the SSD front. Totally worth the investment...
-
Welcome and good luck...you won't be sorry with an Envy 17

I just ran PCMark 7 and the results are a little unnerving. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Here are my results:
Result
Only 2305!! Is it because I only have the trial version or is something wrong with my ENVY? I see fiver got 7840 but that was with PCMark Advantage. -
Ok, try this
Fix for the Envy17 3D Wifi freeze issues with Intel 6200 wireless.
1. Download and install driver version 13.0.0.107 from Intel
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?lang=eng&changeLang=true&DwnldId=18212
Been a few days since I did that driver, and I have had no issues so far!! -
KJ thats great! congratulations - and yes bobmitch I do keep going back and forth with the SSD in my mind, but every time I come back to the "gotta have it" solution. my Adobe Lightroom catalog is nearing 1GB in size, and gets written to constantly while I edit photos.
hardly wait to see what SSD goodies are coming for the Envy 17 next refresh. 300GB and Synaptics IS 1.5 anyone?
I've tried hanging out in the Envy 14 June 15th thread but the signal/noise ratio is just too low. At least on the "waiting for the SB Envy" thread we had some signal and it wasn't all noise! -
Hey so you think this refresh is happening soon? Like June 15th soon? That would pretty sick if so.....I'd pray for a black metallic finish but I think thats asking too much of HP....
-
Anyone with 2100 model or 2000 series using updated bios and newer cool sense experience a situation where the cooling fan running is running fast and you hit power button to put unit in standby, the screen goes out but fan keeps running and keys and mouse unresponsive. Eventually turns off. Still having 2000 series I have to return I ran 6 720p videos at once using two duff media players on each of the two notebooks. Both around 17-22"% CPU and 25% ram in use. Hit power button to standby after pausing all 6 vids on 2000 series and quickly shuts fan off and goes into standby. Do same thing on 2100 series and fan keeps running, screen blacks out as if shutting down but just keeps running for a while and not responsive. An odd A to B comparison but was just comparing heat on units having diff cool sense and bios and noticed the new unit hangs in that situation when putting in standby
-
I would bet a billion dollars HP would never do that for the Envy. I believe an all black finish on an Envy would not give it that high class, sophisticated look like silver/gold/bronze sort of metallic look. Although black cars, now thats great, although I have a silver Tiburon.
KJ
-
You can't really say that tho...they have the Envy 14 Beats edition....and that looks pretty sick (once you ignore the huge fugly devil red beats logo....lol).
So yeah I think the black finish would be a nice OPTION at least but I know its far out there as far as possible changes for this upcoming refresh.
But is it confirmed that the Envy will get new features/options in this refresh and is it definitely the 15th? Or are we just speculating based on the announced Envy 14 refresh? -
Ok. So I got PCmark Advantage to do a better comparison with Fiver and it is a more respectable 7727.
Result
but not sure why the processor clock is at 1397 MHz and the data compression for communciations 1 is so low.
On a side note I ordered my SSD today from Amazon. OCZ Solid 3. Hope it gets here quickly. -
What do you make of this score? 16114 PCMarks Does that mean the test had errors in order to give such a number?

Uk anyone ? Anyone know when the sb 173ds are going to be available- I phoned hp yesterday and they said maybe another 7weeks . That would mean early august ! That seems hard to believe given they've been on sale in the us for 2 odd mOnths, and the online store has been showin the old ones on clearance for a couple of months, and indeed has stopped listing the v1 3d machine ...
-
Something I noticed on my 3 week old Envy17 2070 (which I am loving, btw).
After I wake it from 'Hibernate'. I can't adjust the screen brightness buttons via the keyboard ('F' Function) keys.
Any ideas, anyone ?
Thanks again everyone for your contributions to this thread

well, the envy 17 is in the midst of a refresh now (witness 21xx models already in the wild) but this is a minor refresh, mostly software and ( in my opinion) perhaps some SSD excitement. But nothing like the major refresh of the Envy 14 scheculed for June 15, which is a Sandy Bridge overhaul, lagging the SB Envy 17 by a quarter. Whats interesting to me is that they are updating the Envy 14 clckpad as well. Why they didn't do that for Envy 17 is not clear, except that portability and clckpad behavior is probably more important in the smaller laptops.
So -- no I don't believe we will see any Envy 17 excitement in June, save perhaps some new SSD options (160GB has been gone too long...) . But I would expect an ENvy 17 refresh in the fall -- and based on the present envy 14 I think we may see a new clickpad then.
A black Envy 17 is an interesting speculation! hadn't thought of that...
There is an Envy all-in-one printer as well, and it is black -- I saw one the other day and it looks crazy awesome. better then ENvy 14 Beats -- rather a blend of the traditional brushed AL Envy look and the present Envy 14 Beats.
I dunno... I personaly hope HP diesn't go black, and certainly not gloss black... They could perhaps tweak the pattern to look more like the Envy printer (a consistent Envy brand image), and maybe darken the color, but imho they better keep the aluminum! imho what they need to tie the brand image together across laptops and printers is to adopt a consistent pattern. -
Thanks for the response Dlleno. I may just wait for the Fall then. I'm just saving up money now and paying off a few things.
Glad to be rid of my previous headache laptop though.... -
Its gonna take patience TheAtreidesHawk but waiting for the fall is my approach too. I really want to see better SSDs AND better clickpad. My DV8000T from 5 years ago (T2300 core duo 1.6GHz) is still limping along.
It won't be ivy bridge, thats for sure, but if there are any new Sandy Bridge processor speeds they might be available as well. I expect 16GB to be an option (although a very expensive one), using 2x8GB sticks. -
Where can i find temperatures,
Battery Life on average,
3DMark06 score,
3DMark vantage,
3DMark 11?
Does the machine overheat?

Hi Guys,
Bought this one and it's defective already:
9cell Battery for HP Pavilion dm4t dm4-1000 G62 Envy 17 | eBay
How much bad luck can somebody have? Notebook goes off immediately and spontanous without any reason. Battery shows to be full but the energy just cuts out somehow.
Edit: Right now it seems like the battery cannot deliver the full power which is needed if the AMD GPU runs. I will do more tests but still extremely disappointing.
Edit2: Just charged the 9cell battery completely again and it played a 1080/24p with full display brightness for 2,5 hours now until it was empty again. Not bad! Now I will compare the original 6cell battery. -

I feel yah. A better SSD option right there in the store would be great. And even though I plan on getting one of the new Logitech wireless mice whenever I finally order my new laptop I still would love to have a better trackpad.dlleno said: ↑Its gonna take patience TheAtreidesHawk but waiting for the fall is my approach too. I wish a new batch of people would show up and order some of the current Envys so we can see if this throttling issue and all the build issues have been worked out. I'm glad that KJ's laptop is doing well though so hopefully thats a sign of future things....
Crossing fingers for the "dark umber color option" but metallic of course...haha -

I cannot express how amazing the Envy is especially with the SSD as the OS drive. I was never big on laptops, really, I was only a desktop person...now I haven't turned my e-machine desktop in months, seriously. The Envy runs circles and back obviously.
Anyway, just to note, I'm on the Intel GPU during work/office where I'm at now. I am not kidding when I say this, but the vent is literrally throwing out COOL air!!!
The left palm rest is just a tab bit warmer than room temp and that is room temp on A/C. So yeah its great. I did have nice very warm air when running the 6850 the first day or two, but honestly I still have not run it for too long. I know we have to do it to let the thermal paste settle, so I'll be doing that this weekend when I watch some videos.
Purchased a nice Bluray set of Human Nature the complete series from the BBC, so I'll be enjoying that this weekend. Also, I still have to do Crimsoned's thottle test with Furmark and Prime95 also for this weekend. I am hoping not to see any throttling as I've updated my BIOS to F15.
I'll keep you guys posted. Hope everyone is enjoying their Envy, and for those who still have not ordered, I do hope HP builds you the specs you want.

Lol I didn't want to jinx anything for you man. But thats excellent news to hear. How does it feel in terms of weight and compactness? Solid build right?

looking good KJ! -- be sure to play with the battery/power settings (for performance) and also CoolSense (by turning it off) -- so you don't throttle.

Hold on a sec. Turn Coolsense off? I thought we discussed this issue. If we leave it on "performance" it will still throttle?
KJ
-
You shouldn't throttle with Coolsense 1.0 on Performance. I leave it there all the time...once the bios was updated to f.15...no throttle at all. I think that something changed in Coolsense 2 that caused issues. YES...you can cause throttling even with 1.0, but settings have to be on "coolest". Just leave on performance and all should be fineKilla Joe said: ↑

I was just interested in both datapoints performance mode and off altogether. If there is any question about the role or impact of coolsense settings, turn it off and retest, thats all I meant.
-
My version is 1.0.1.4 So I take it I'm good. How can we prevent Coolsense from Upgrading itself? I noted that Coolsense program does not give you an option to refuse any updates, but I imagine once Support Assistant downloads it, you can always choose to hide and refuse to update it, so that is one option I suppose.Bobmitch said: ↑You shouldn't throttle with Coolsense 1.0 on Performance. Just wondering, wouldn't a setting of quietest be best for gaming as it will cool less and use resources less...secondary only to turning off Coolsens, no?
KJ
-
You can set up HP Software assistant to do as Windows updates does. Tell SA to alert you and let YOU decide what to install. I have one hidden update already. Even if you turn Coolsense OFF, the bios will still protect the hardware...so the fans will ramp up at some point, but the throttling shouldn't happen.Killa Joe said: ↑My version is 1.0.1.4 So I take it I'm good. I'd take bobmitch's recommendation to put coolsense on performance -- or off if there are any questions about its contribution. I wouldn't think "quietest" setting would be good for gaming -- that sounds like minimizing the fan speed/noise, ergo a reduction in cooling capacity, leading to a forced reduction in CPU utilization if needed (because the cooling system can't keep up unless the fan is allowed to make noise): in other words: throttling.
-
...I do believe that the system bios still will protect the hardware. On performance mode of Coolsense 1, fans will ramp up at a certain temp...and the CPU still won't throttle. I think Coolsense was a secondary protection that originally kicked the fans up earlier. Somehow, HP decided to have the software throttle the CPU....so OFF is the absolute logical choice if you want the CPU and GPU to perform. I recall, when using Throttlestop, before the bios fix, you could keep the CPU full throttle and GPU full throttle...and temps didn't exceed 97C...but, to me, that was cutting it close. I actually had Throttlestop set to drop the CPU to 1.6 GHZ when temps hit 90 and the CPU never got hotter than 90. I still have throttlestop on my HDD, in case I want to run in Turbo mode and let the program bring me down to 1.6 in case of extreme temps. So I actually intend to use it in the opposite way that we all did before the fix.dlleno said: ↑I was just interested in both datapoints performance mode and off altogether.
