Crossing mine for you too. It's funny how illogical they can be. I like the valued customer approach. Now I start wondering if that is why the rep was able to stack my coupon on my HPA discount. It was after I mentioned that our office just bought a T1200 ink jet plotter (we got a steal on it for just below 10k)....
So next time I should pull the: "if you want me to keep buying ink from you guys". Do you guys have any idea how much that stupid ink for the T1200 is? You can buy a desktop inkjet printer for one of those cartdriges
But after killing our old plotter with no name ink, I really don't want to take any chances. (and off topic he goes again....but the wait is killing me)
Do you guys know if you can upgrade to 2-day shipping after you are in production already?

You are so right!! But going off-subject for a minute...
Manytimes, buying a new printer is cheaper than buying ink, so we have more than 10 barely-used printers lying around. LOL

Well, to be fair, this is an ad for the AMD. I am sure if it was for intel it would look a bit different.

One thing I have learned over the years. Believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see! Intel and AMD are great at spinning things their way. I, rarely, have experienced choppiness like that. The only way to really do a benchmark is to build machines that spec closely and let someone objective do the comparison. Not sure this was the case!

You can get anything done if you talk to the right/ enough people the right way. I was able to cancel an order a week after i ordered it (it was in production) to change an i7 to an i5 back in october. I was told a hundred times it was impossible to cancel. They offered me $50, $100, $200 to shut up but i stuck with the plan and got it cancelled and $200 off my new purchase woot woot! Don't be an idiot when you ask (imagine some retard calling you and being an A-hole and then expecting you to help him out) and be persistant. The 3 C's will get you far in life. Calm, cool and collective. Good luck.

I believe you are right on. I too just received the dreaded "delayed" email with a revised ship/build date of April 18. My original estimated ship/build date was March 30 having placed my order on March 9. It does seem like they place the delayed orders at the end of the line. I think that they send the "delayed" email in reverse order too.

I just checked on configuring a new order identical to my original order and found that the cost at full list would be $25.00 less than I was charged. I had placed my order by phone and had asked for a discount. After checking with "supervisor", the sales person offered a $25.00 discount on a mouse that I was certain to need. However, after checking my charges, I find that they charged me full list on everything including the mouse plus an additional $25.00.

If I had any sense I would take this opportunity to cancel and return all of the obsolete and/or overpriced items they immediately sent: the mouse, chill mat, external hard drive, and HP 4 year House Call w/ADP for 24 months. However, I obsessively really want this computer; also I am beyond the 21 day return policy. The charge on my credit card is now due. Maybe I should challenge the charge. What to do, what to do... Wish I had found this forum sooner. It has been a learning experience. Thanks all.

I have a lot of issues to take up with resolutions.

    Hyperboled...

The 21 day return policy pertains to 21 days AFTER delivery of your order. Since your computer has NOT been delivered...the 21 days hasn't even started yet. I would notify your Credit Card company, so you do not get charged any interest...then work with HP to cancel the order (if that is what you want to do). Make sure your credit card company is willing to go to the mats for you. At that point...you should be able to create a "dispute" and either HP will step up or cancel the order. You have had a bad time of this, and frankly it is not looking good for many of us. I have YET to see where anyone has received an Envy, since the second week of March. I received mine on 3/14 (returned on the 15th, due to paperwork issues). Re-ordered on 3/18 and since I have re-ordered...NO ONE has come here stating that they received a machine. In addition...they moved your date, with NO consolation???? How is it everyone else got $200 or $300...and you were offered nothing? Don't just deal with Customer Service...get escalated...take it to where you get something done to your satisfaction.

If Stephan C gets the dreaded email about 4/18 (when they said that they would ship 4/5)...then I expect we ALL will get the dreaded email. My suspicion is that NO Envy has shipped since mid March and none will until 4/18. Seems to be a date that HP set to begin shipping again. Let's all hope I am wrong!

Here is the return policy for HP

    Returns exchanges

    Return & exchange policy

    Return period
The HP Home & Home Office Store will accept returns and exchanges up to 21 days after delivery for most products. Some exceptions apply. Gift cards may not be returned except where required by law.

    Credits
Credit for returns and exchanges is issued once we confirm receipt of the merchandise. Please be aware that your financial institution may take 5-to-7 business days to process your credit and have it reflect in your account.

    Refunds
Tax (if applicable) is refunded with returns.

Original shipping and handling charges aren't refunded.

When you return items from a group of items purchased, the remaining amount spent may no longer be eligible for any discount you may have received (e.g., for gifts with purchase, free gifts, buying in quantity). If this is the case, the discount is subtracted from the price you paid for the returned item. To receive a complete refund, all items from the original purchase must be returned.

My Dell inspiron e1505 was 4.5 years old and was still running strong (no problem at all) and relatively useful (slower performance accepted). I paid only $800 for it in 2006 with an ultrabright 1680x1050 screen.

I should expect a similar, if not longer or better useful life for the Envy given its power and build quality, shouldn't i?

    BTW: I sold my e1505 in January 2011 for $180 before i got a dv7 tqe.

    Hy....

I had the same machine with the x1400 video card. Glossy 1680 x 1050. Donated mine to an animal shelter in bad need of many things, including computers. One would expect a good life out of the Envy. My son has a Pavillion that I bought him for High School graduation three years ago. The build quality, etc has been good...machine still working (did have motherboard replaced)....but all in all...very satisfied...The Envy should be a couple of steps above what we had...

Aweeee, Jose..... :( Well, look.... from what I see, you are getting a super killer laptop anyway. You know very well that if you are not happy with your dv7tqe before the 21 days are up, send her back....and order the Envy 17 3D SB...... with great coupons of course. :p I know you really want that 1080p display...that is it, right? :D Not sure how much you care about the backlit keyboard, but I myself would never give up on a 1080p display, now that I am planning on watching the classic movies on Bluray....Godfather, Scarface, Starwars which is supposed to come out on Bluray next year I believe, can't wait!

Anyway, whatever decision you make, we'll all be here for ya, NBR is really a great place. ;)

Oh, got to run to a dinner/meeting now, will catch you guys later tonight.

Understand one thing. China is 13 hours ahead...so it is already by your time...6:39am on Wed. This is the time that the shipments are normally called in. You might see one this evening...if not...I wouldn't expect much. The next day will tell just where we ALL stand.

Have you called HP and asked them? Can't believe how you can stay that calm. Mine is not even scheduled to be shipped before in a week, but I am ready to call them and complain about yours not shippping (or hopefully only not issuing the tracking).

EDIT: Maybe we should all move back over here, as sad as it is:

I have just spoken with customer support. They expect that the email notification will be sent before the evening is over. However, I do plan to speak with Resolutions if shipment doesn't commence before the conclusion of the evening. If I have not received a message validating shipment I will let you all know before the end of the evening.

    Hi,

Has anyone confirmed whether the SB ENVY has SATA3???

If anyone has a SATA 3 drive running in theirs could they please respond (or PM me) and let me know if it's running at full speed..

I know a lot of people have asked this earlier and some have posted their findings from SATA 2 drives, from what I could see no one has actually tried a SATA 3 drive yet and posted their findings?? ..unless I missed it in the 128 pages of posts :)

I've got my ENVY on the way (17-2002tx, i7-2630QM /w 8GB & 2TB) and I'm about to pick up an SSD for it in the next couple of days, if it supports SATA 3 then I'll grab the new OCZ Vertex 3 240GB otherwise I'll save the money and get the OCZ Vertex 2..

I know the H67 chipset supports it but want to confirm it's not been disabled for any reason etc..

    TIA!

Hold on, is you Envy actually being shipped? Did you get tracking information?
Sorry, no answer on the Sata III, but currently everybody is eagerly awaitinsystems actually being shipped, so you might be the first one, if yours is on the way.

.. sorry, when I said on the way.. I mean I've ordered it from HP's Online store (from Australia) and paid for it.. from the looks of the invoice I'm not expecting to receive it for about a week or so.. (haven't received tracking information and I haven't tried checking order status just yet..)

I am expecting a delivery from HP today but that's just the extra accessories I ordered I believe (..extra battery! and slim PSU). I just checked my order status then and the status is listed as 'Admin', whatever that means, the planned shipment date was the 4th of April and the Planned delivery date is the 7th (tomorrow) but since I haven't heard anything else I'm assuming it's not going to be tomorrow...

I just did something interesting...and had to do a double take to make sure what I saw. Go to the HP Envy 17 3D page and configure a system. The date of the system ship is 4/21. Add each addition to the machine you already bought...stays 4/21. Then add the SSD with 640GB 7200 rpm HDD and the date of the order changes by 5 days to 4/26. I am wondering if anyone awaiting the SSD / HDD combo are gonna be even later than promised?

It is now 12:12 am CDT on April 6, 2011. I have not received information confirming the shipment of my Envy 17 3D SB nor have I received an email confirming a delay in my order. It could go either way right now. Let's hope it's on it's way. :)

Have you checked your order status on the HP Page? top of the page...put in your order number and phone number...it will give you most up to date info. My bet: "In Production"

Basically...if the machine had shipped...there would be a tracking number where the ship date is. It would actually say "Shipped" with a FEDEX tracking number that you could click on to actually track the package. I am getting pretty upset with the idea that each and every one of us is being fed a "Story". Rather than admit what is really going on...HP is basically dangling carrots to keep us all from getting angry at them. Honestly...in all my years of business....this is not a good way to deal with people. HP is not exactly creating a "trust" with us. If this is how they treat us now, then I really wonder how we will be treated along the way. This is very sad and unfortunately frustrating. It is now going on 1:30PM in China...perhaps your machine "might" ship late...but the way it worked with my original Envy...they sent shipping info to FEDEX around 2AM...FEDEX picks up a bulk load of packages late in the PM...and then on to customs....

I was hoping that you would be one of the first, once HP began shipping systems again. At this point...they find it easier to lose money for each delayed order...than to tell us what is going on.

guys & girls I need your urgent assistance. As the new Sandy Bridge version of the HP envy 17 3-D I'll not be available in the UK for the foreseeable near future, according to HP sales, I am seriously considering the previous version in the final stock HP sale at £1499, 2,450.99 USD.
here are the specs of this model:

    Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor
    1.6 GHz, Level 3 cache 6 MB
    6 GB DDR3 (1 x 2048 MB + 1 x 4096 MB)
500 GB SATA Hard Disk Drive 7200 rpm
    Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD±R/RW
43.9 cm (17.3") diagonal Full High-Definition HP 3D Ultra BrightView Infinity Display.
ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5850 Graphics, up to 3835 MB total graphics memory with 1 GB DDR5 dedicated
    3D Glasses
    etc

as a fast multimedia 3-D Blu-ray media centre and a general everyday laptop and not a gaming laptop, Do you think it's worth going for this older model at that price?.
The only downside I can see would be not being able to eventually output to a 3-D TV or 27.inch Acer 3-D monitor(which I don't own yet) due to its HDMI 1.3 output limitation? please let me know if I'm missing any other obvious downside to this previous model.

any thoughts appreciated today as I need to hit the buy button urgently before they run out, cheers

If it’s discounted and final stock don't you think that’s an indication of the Sandy Bridge revision being imminent?!

The Sales rep is just pulling your leg and trying to get you to buy.

I would go for the new envy 17 just because I would feel safer over the heating issues of the previous gen.

All other EU countries have pretty much received their first Envy 17 stock and are selling it for around a week now. Neatherlands, Germany, Switzerland etc so the UK can't be that far off.

If price isn't and issue I would wait. Processor wise even the EU config 2630QM runs rings around the 720QM and I realise you will just use it for work. But the whole architecture of this processor is worth the wait from a tech point of view...

P.S I am not too certain if the 3D version of the Envy 17 has landed in the EU yet. I think stocks are shipping this week. Will confirm if I find out.

Have you talked to a supervisor or someone with a little more clout? Basically all I am seeing is people getting 15% coupons and no machines. Are you going to get the magic date of 4/18, too? I would stay on this until someone can give you an answer. Remember...it is the middle of the night in China now...

It is dissapointing about Stephan C's order. I was just wondering, if HP is giving 15% now for the delays and telling people the new date for shippments is 4/18/11...what happens if HP cannot meet that new ship date? Will HP give those cutomers the new Envy 17 3D SB for like a couple hundered dollars? LOL :p :D Ya know, have to find the humor in there somewhere, it helps....

Still, wish HP got their act together and fast!

KJ... I know you must be here reading...

...yep! mine is delayed (new est. shipping 4/15). So far, all I could negotiate with them is:
    1) 15% off coupon sent to my e-mail
    2) $50.00 credit

    I'm hoping/dreaming:
    1) 15% off coupon (already sent to me)
    2) $100-150 credit and/or another 15% off coupon
...either to buy a 27" LED monitor or another laptop (dv6t) for my wife, so that way she leave me alone... LOL

They keep selling these machines and not shipping. Talk about a backlog!!! I don't see this issue clearing up any time soon...again...hope I am wrong!

    VERY BAD NEWS GUYS.
I just talked to customer service. I must have gotten really lucky, because I actually got a rep that was honest.
They have component shortage, in particular memory and processors. They do not have ANY intel processors for the Envy 17 in stock. They are working with intel, but, they have no idea when they will be getting any more shipments from intel.
She actually admitted that any shipping date given right now is no more than a guess. She admitted it might be weeks before they start production again. Even if they would get a shipment form intel tomorrow, which she agreed is highly unlikely, they would not be able to ship anything before the end of April. Even the advertised webpage build date of April 21 is impossible to achieve.
She honestly told me, that if I need a laptop within the next 2 months, I'd be better of ordering from another company. SHe said Dell is shipping (they are in front of them with intel).
Sorry to be the bearer of the bad news.

Sadly Stephan, HP also appears to delay the "delayed" email. My estimated build/ship date was March 30 and HP sent the "delayed" email the evening of April 4. Of course we hope your outcome will be different.

    I just ordered a Dell XPS 17D :(
Let's see which one gets here first. The other one will be returned.

HP has till 5/2 (when the Dell will get here).

Btw. I picked up a HP Pavilion at Costco the other day, but returned it the next day....Nothing wrong with the notebook, actually kind a liked it, but I was confirmed by myself that it is impossible for me to work on anything less than full HD (My CAD program can't show full toolboxes on the vertical 900 resolution and cuts the bottom off)

Ouch!! Lol, I can't belive you're playing that game! :D Its cool, as long as you enjoy the laptop. By the way....since you did order the Dell, do you know what their return policy is like? How does it compare to HPs? I'm sure others may be interested to order Dell also..... (not me of course! :p )

Going to make it hard to stay with the program. I have been without a laptop for weeks now...another month or so is gonna really hurt! Some thinking required

Their return policy sucks. I'll have to confirm the details, but unless you ship the notebook back in the sealed box, they can charge you a 15% restocking fee and probably will. Officially they can even charge you this if you return the sealed package. They usually waive the fee if you order anything else afterwards (I need to buy a desktop for a family friend within the next 6 weeks, so I will be fine, and I don't intend to really open the bix, this is just the backup if worst case will come true on HP, which I am afraid is very likely to happen).
Their inhouse service is pretty amazing though (this will actually be my first HP so I can't compare it). I had Dells before and service was very good. Call before noon and the guy shos up at you office the next day. I had a dead MBO and he could not fix it on site, so he gave me a replacement notebook on the spot and even cloned my drive right there. BUT, the ENVY is sooooo much sexier ;-).

Perhaps....some....but to be honest, I will not get the deal I got ever again....so its not like I really have a choice here. You got a good deal too, so, to give that up would be really, really hard. :(

Same here. I got a total of $472 off (and my original config was below $2000, so it was somewhere around 25% off)...won't get anything comparable soon. But if they won't ship before in a months or so...

Has anyone actually received their SB 17" yet? Just scanning the posts here I haven't seen any benchmarks. I'm curious how the GDDR5 6850 performs. The results for the GDDR3 version on notebookcheck.net look lower than the GDDR5 6770.

Okay, I just got of the phone with Resolutions. My order is officially delayed. She couldn't give me a reason for the delay but apparently this will be the case for multiple customers. During the call she mentioned that she'd received other calls asking about delays on Envy 17 3D orders. Well, all I can do is wait for the dreaded delay email.
    :)

I gave you the reason a couple post up. If anybody wants to take up a bet. I will bet that NO SYSTEM will be shipped this week. Btw. it's not only the Envy affected. All notebooks with a mobile SB are affected.
Look at the dv6 and dv7 forum, same there. NOTHING is shipping, because nothing is physically being built.

Man I'm glad I ordered when I did... I was about to send mine back in for RMA because of the hassle with the SSD/HDD stripe and the fact that the SSD is under-performing compared to the ones being released now. However if I do, I'd be stuck like the rest of you... sigh... At least HP gave me a $100 credit for turning down an RMA. I'm actually having buyers remorse about the SSD+HDD combo, but the rest of the laptop is perfect.
