Yeah, guess we are all waiting for the chips to come in to HP. Glad you still have a smile on, but did you at least ask for the 15% discount, or are you gonna wait until you receive the officle HP delay email?
P.S. added cam121 to the list of SB Envy owners....

Cam, would you mind elaborating about this a bit further? Is it just because of the price, or are there some further issues (beyond the striping that you had to get rid off).
-
What I don't get. HP is the #1 PC maker in the world, right now. Does about 25% more business than Dell...and overall...it takes Dell, Toshiba and Lenovo to add up to HP's business....YET...they are last on the food chain for processors and memory? I think that would reflect very badly on Intel...biting the hand that feeds you! Even Asus is filling the pipeline with Sandy Bridge machines....I don't think that HP has moved one Envy since mid March...last known delivery 3/20
-
cam121, but you fixed your SSD/HDD striped issue right?
Unless I'm confusing you with someone else...

I tried to configure the XPS 17 3D to the same specs i had for the Envy 17 3D. Since Dell currently offers a $400 combined discount, and it came out about $1,380 (including tax) as compared to $1,330 from HP (after $400 discount from the exchange). It is not that much difference.
My config is i7-2630, 6G Ram, BR drive, 9-cell, Blue-tooth, backlit keyboard. Default GPU.
The main difference is the look. Envy's GPU may be better than XPS GPU? Dell coupon are for everyone and HP discount is unique from the exchange and i propably won't get it again if i let it go. And i can use the bill-me-later with 6-month no interest for HP but not for Dell. Oh one more, Dell XPS has the 7200 RPM HDD but not HP (i have to swap out the 5400 RPM HDD if i want a 7200RPM).
Dell's return policy is not so good and so unless one is sure don't order it.
My ship date is 4/19 and so will be delayed to ???
With all that, i have few choices but wait... -
Well, we do not know on what shipment they are behind. It might have been that they got their first shipment and now Dell and the others are getting their first, and HP has to wait for the second round. In the end, this is probably a lot more complicated.
Btw. I just received a call back from HP. A supervisor called me (guess they are monitoring their calls), and have a feeling my rep got in trouble. Poor girls, she was just honest. The supervisor calls me and tells me that my order due to be shipped on the 12th is still on target for shipment. Yeah, right....
So I asked him if my system would physically be built right now. His answer :"We do not have any information about the detailed production progress, but as you can see in your order status, you system is in production and it is scheduled to be shipped on April 12. We do not have any other information that would change that date, so you can expect it to be shipped on the 12th".
I almost bursted our laughing. The guy was smooth as hell and would not give me any real information.
Let's all hope that Rachel won't get into too much trouble for being honest to a customer. -
I have dealt with Dell twice in the past 15 years. One situation...OK....one very good. No matter how you slice it...the Envy 17 / Envy 17 3D stands in a class by itself. If there is a bit of gamer in you...it is plenty powerful enough to run anything. If you need the business look...it has that and more. As someone stated the other day about Asus...like carrying around a Stealth Bomber in your carry bag. Based on what I said before...Intel would be stupid to not take care of their #1 customer. There are reasons why HP can't ship...before we all jump overboard...I think we need to see how it is going to play out. For me to get a comparable machine to the one I bought...I would pay hundreds more...not sure I want to do that. If I get an idea that is realistic to me and I can make adjustments...I will do that. If it seems unrealistic...then I would have to do something else...but not in a hurry.
-
Oh slotti, if I knew this would happen I'd advise you to ask this HP guy, if he is so sure that your order will be shipped on the 12th.... what happens if it does not!#@#$#$# Will HP give you the system for 50%, because its getting to the point of nonsense...
What I mean is, if HP is giving you a revised date, they damn better be sure its for real. How many strikes do they think they are allowed?
But good luck to you, me, and everyone else who is holding on to their HP orders by a shear thread.
If we did not have our forum on NBR, I doubt many of us would still be holding on...

If you are interested in some benchmarks I posted some 3DMark 06, Vantage, and 11 results along with temps (plus a 3DMark06 score with a mild Overclock of the GPU to 650/1000) here:

It performs quite well. I usually cap all my games at 60 FPS. Heroes of Newerth and Team Fortress 2 (basically any Source game) rarely dips (only to like 55 fps in huge team fights) from 60 fps using 1080p, max settings, V-sync off, no AA.
I'm a bit disappointed by its performance in Starcraft 2 though. At 1080p, medium settings, reduced max lag on, V-sync and AA off, I'll get around 45 fps but it dips to around 30-33 frequently when there are a lot of units on the screen. Most people find anything above 30 fps to be good enough but I like to have all my games run at least 50 fps without dipping below that. I actually turned the shaders and lighting down to low and turned most of the other stuff to high and it runs a lot better, 60 fps with about 0-15 fps dipping during large battles. -
I'm gonna wait until I get the official email. I'm already getting $350.00 off so I'll probably ask for another $100.00. I won't stop calling until I get an extra $100.00 at least.
-
You know me well
I actually asked him if he would offer me a discount if it does not ship (I only asked for 25% though) and if he could get me this in writing. His answer: "your system will ship on time. I cannot give you a discount for something that might or might not happen in the future." Haha. -
If it works for ya...do it!

cam121: Sell your current SSD on ebay and buy one of the new generation, problem solved
-
Bob, guess you missed my point. It was clear to me that he would not commit to anything, and it really wasn't my intend in the first place to get another discount. I was just trying to call the guy out. I don't think they will offer anymore large discounts, and I don't believe they will apply these 15% appology coupons on top of current orders (exceptions prove the rule).
There is just waaaayyyyy too many in the delay chain by now. Must be in the thousands. -
Mine arrived on March 17th, 2011
The price mainly. Hindsight is 20/20 and at the time I should have ordered the single 640GB 7200RPM option and bought an aftermarket SSD for cheaper than the $630 fee HP charged.
My stripe issue is fixed, just upset about the cost I paid for the SSD option.
I thought about that but the cuts from Ebay and PayPal wouldn't be worth it. I have some options, I just don't have the money to throw around and resolve this the way I'd like to.
I'm told Sony will be bringing back the guaranteed $100 trade-in program. I still need a (weak) pc for my work so I'm hoping to trade in a bunch of old laptops and buy a cheap sony for less than $400 (+ $400 trade in). I wish HP offered a similar program. An i5 first gen would be perfect for a work laptop. -
I think I posted to the wrong answer...that is why it looks off...my mistake! I am hopeful that HP will fix this sooner than later. Let's hope that it is a shorter term issue than anyone knows. At this point...there have been so many reasons as to why...only HP knows the real answer...
-
That's perfect, thanks!
-
I tried to get them to apply the 15% apology coupon to my current order, it didn't work. :-/
-
If you don't mind my asking what were the temps like while you were playing? Anything ridiculous?
Also in your opinion a quad core processor would be better than a dual core as far as performance for SC2 do you think? -
StarCraft 2 is very CPU-intensive. Quad-core is likely better in most scenarios, unless you're talking about some highly-clocked dual-cores. There may be some further analysis on this elsewhere on the net.
-
I get an average of around 64 degrees C peaking at 74 C when gaming. Keep in mind that these temperatures are with a Zalman NC3000U cooling pad set to high. The temperature in my room is normally 24 C. I also live in Florida where it gets really hot outside and the humidity is high.
It is to my understanding that Starcraft 2 is a very CPU intensive game so I would say a quad core would definitely yield better performance than a dual core. -
@VonCrisp;7338189
sorry about the delay in replying, the U.K.'s mini heatwave today has brought my neighbours to my door and I'm preparing to decorate my flat, it's been hectic
you make very valid points. If the Europe stocks are becoming available then I will wait for the better CPU and they HDM I 1.4 compatibility, especially as I will be using the 27 inch Acer 120 Hz 3D monitor with this laptop.
It's nice to get a second Independent opinion when HP sales rep is obviously talking with a vested interest. Thank you VonCrisp;7338189 -
cam121, I hate to say the "R" word since we know it all too well, but....do you feel strongly about the price, that you could live with doing a return and waiting a bit longer to get it without an SSD? You are of course still under the 21 day return window.
I am sure with coupons and negotiating you will get better price.

Cam121
I asked you a couple of days ago if you had "erased" the SSD before you restored the OS. You said NO. Are you experiencing a "deteroriated" performance? You mentioned that it is not performing like the ones now. That may be due to full cells that are not reported as so. If so...there may be a way to fix this. Post back and perhaps I can help. -
I have a shiny new Vertex 3 sitting right here in front of me.
Whenever my Envy gets here I'll post benchmarks. Should be Monday if I'm lucky.
edit: just caught up with the rest of the thread looks like I'm not getting that envy anytime soon lol -
What fiver5? Where did you get it? Amazon still says they're not shipping yet.
-
Newegg.com has had the Vertex 3 in stock a couple of times. They sell out very fast stock is probably very limited at the moment.
-
Newegg has them...

Guess I wasn't fast enough typing...got beat to the answer -
Stock drops in and out. They just started coming over from Taiwan last Thursday night and they aren't supplying them fast enough for retailers to keep up with orders. I'm sure in a few weeks things will settle down.
I pre-ordered from Amazon shortly after they were listed so I was part of the first end user batch to get them. -
$1,899 for 480GB....sweet!
I'd so buy it though if I could afford it though.
The person who's handling my replacement said mine should be built and shipped by 04/20 so we'll see.... -
Well I officially consider HP the worst company I have yet to deal with.
I received a email today saying my system has been delayed until 4/19/2011.
This was a replacement system for a badly designed Envy 17 that I could on 3/23~/2011. I have effectively been without a suitable work computer for that amount of time, now I have to wait another 2 weeks. This totals to 1 1/2 months of waiting for a resolution, and 2 months of being without a business laptop since this Envy 17 can't be used safely.
Read more on my post if you guys would like.

I get that you're angry and all that but I mean the same thing is happening it seems like to EVERYONE.
Its not like HP is specifically targeting you personally.
I agree though that this is a bad state of things for the company. I'm surprised that they even accepted the orders, the lack of transparency/honesty, and the refusal to even just put a simple message on hp.com saying "we are experiencing delays" because of so and so...
Its dumb and very shady. -
Completely with you on this. You order today and it says ship date April 21. That is only 2 weeks from today!!! People have been waiting for over a months now. There is close to zero percent chance that they will make the 21st. The 'other' companies are much more straight forward on their timing.
Dell is openly saying it won't be before May. Funny as is. I have a feeling that my xps which I ordered today will get to me way before my ENVY, which is supposed to be shipped next Tuesday. Big plus for Apple on this one. You walk into a store and you walk out with a new notebook.
I am a big fan of custom orders, but if it takes longer than the life expectancy of the product
-
I just got the email saying
"Dear Valued Customer, we're sorry that we're evasive, dishonest, and secretive. We hope you won't cancel your order and will continue to do business with us even though there is a possibility that you may never receive your order or that your order may arrive with severe defects."
Well, maybe I just read what I was feeling...
No worries, I'm about to call resolutions. This one's going to cost them. -
Revised shipping date: April 12, 2011.
-
HAHA, April 12. So you are getting the 12, while others get the 18, 20, hmm, we have not had the 15th yet. Oh well. We all gotta sit tight and see what's coming (or not) or way
.
Like your translation of the HP language.
-
I wonder who will get their's first of me and slotti. There's 1 day separating our orders
-
Like my new avatar? A few minutes in PhotoShop adds a little more reality to the image.
Feel free to borrow it.
-
Thanks.
I can't believe this. I ordered the Envy 17 3D so I could have the best. By the time it ships something else will have already come out.
-
Well, officially you can put Stephan in the race as well. Though for him it would be the 2nd delay. Love the Avatar Stephan.
-
LOL Stephan C I mean...
This is just a hot mess.... -
Ha! I ordered mine 5 days ago and my ship date is April 21 too. Hmmm, maybe they are expecting a big shipment within the next week and then they'll get building all these laptops? In all honesty, I'd be ok with a 15% delayed coupon. Stack that with my HPA discount and get a sweet 25% off? Sounds pretty decent to me.
But yeah, lets hope they just get shipped on time.
-
I just sold my mac, so I'm completely without a computer until my envy arrives. Surfing on my phone these days, and man am I bored. Life without computers just aint the same.
-
And imagine a world without cell phone
-
Yeah, and you also walk out with a big hole in your pocket!
Sorry, couldn't resist a jab at Apple's insanely expensive prices for their MBPs...
P.S. Stephan C, love the avatar!
Looks a bit familiar..hmmmm

Just finished a call with HP Resolutions who's number by the way is 1-866-217-6014.
After staying on hold for about 6 minutes Wendy came back with another $120.00 off of my order to compensate me for the estimated delay of 6 days.
My name is Stephan C and I have received $470.00 in discounts on my Envy 17 3D.

I don't wanna imagine. Big props to old people who managed to grow up without any cool stuff, haha
