Unless you use reclock and watch 24fps media...

And the screen can do 120Hz just fine without running 3D applications.

I can tell you that if was automatic on my amex gold business card. It showed up several days after purchase as a 5% discount. I was pleasantly surprised.

I think he means interpolated. Basically means it uses a method of manipulating the refresh rate so it mimics 120 hz. The difference between a true 120 hz and a interpolated 120 hz are quite obvious since interpolated 120 hz produces many artifacts, and freezes.

    Hi fiver5,
looks like you got yours. Congrats.
And even better, looks like it does SATA III :D (or am i reading something wrong here).
And I was just about to order my intel 320...crap. No I have to do a lot of thinking again. Intel 510 (reliable intel) or vertex 3 (not so reliable from what I read, but great CS). The vertex only comes in 120 or 240...and I kind a settled on the 160 (price and storage compromise). AAAAAhhhhrggggggghhhhhh
I am happy we are getting SATA III, but it really screws up my decision making. Oh and there is the crucial 300.

*Excellent* - thanks for the link - that prompted me to apply for a new AMEX OPEN gold business card - and she confirmed that it would give me 5% cash back (woohoo!!) BUT.....I have to wait 3 business days to get the card in the mail before I can actually ORDER ::sigh::!!! Ahhh well, patience is a virtue (that I do not have). Hoping that will still work buying it through the Academic store - will post when everything gets settled.

If anyone out there can answer the docking station question from earlier, that would be much appreciated. Apparently I have three days to wait for an answer ::sighs again::

Interpolation does not manipulate the refresh rate.

Interpolation manipulates the video frames being sent to the display.

    1.) SATA 600 = SATA 6Gbit/s = SATA III
    and this proofs it:
2.) Read speed at 485!!! I believe Sata II is limited to 300.

It's uploading right now. remember that it's in 1080p so it's gonna take a while. I'll have it up as soon as possible. :)

The Envy arrived in perfect condition. i am absolutely satisfied with my purchase and I'm sure that you all will fall in love with your systems when they arrive. Oh and so far, heating isn't an issue.

That's good to hear, because cooling pads seem like too much hassle. I can only see myself using them for those times I sit in bed for long periods of time using it.

    Excellent news!

Although this does make the option of upgrading to an SSD more complicated due to the price factor...

However given all the YouTube vids I've watched over the past few hours detailing just how much better an SSD is over a traditional HDD I'm pretty much amped and set on buying one.

Just need to not break the bank on it while getting a decently large one.

I know how funny things have turned out. I never planned on an SSD, but now that I'm getting one, I can't describe the excitement. Just thinking of how quickly I'll be on the desktop once I push the on button. I was questioning people why I should consider an SSD....but once I will give it a try, well, I'll post if all the hype is really true. :D

You were one of the ones who had to return the 1st one you received right? What was the reason and was the issue not present this 2nd time around?

Glad to hear that you got your notebook though! Look forward to the video! If its up tonight I'm definitely gonna stay up to watch it.

Hi, finally joined Team Envy (-25% was just too good to pass up!)

Soooo... I have an old Dell 30" monitor (3007wfp) with just a Dual Link DVI port - my dilemma is whether to go with this scary-looking/expensive mini-dp solution or somehow get this cheaper/simpler hdmi-to-Dual Link DVI working at 2560x1600. I know the hdmi will handle 1920x1080 fine - but I can't seem to get confirmation that the Envy's hdmi 1.4 and this cable will support the higher native resolution of this displayhttp://forum.notebookreview.com/images/smilies/confused.gif. Any thawts?

    Peaches07,

The avatar thing was because I decided not to use the same one as I do to post in my local paper of me... Besides its from that crazy Japanese TV Game Show.... nothing at all to do with sexuality... I'm straight all the way... It's just that these guys crack me up.... enjoy them crazy Japanese boys, girls... and not so normal boys........... Girls would most likely dig these for manly swimwear!

if not, download any video converter...and decrease the frame rate, or switch to 720p or use a different compression codec, you can download it here:

For timing sake I'm using Premiere Elements (Shipped with the Envy 17 3D courtesy of HP) to cut down the resolution to 720p. I'll find a T1 or Fiber Connection to upload the 1080p version on. :)

Rendering with an Intel Sandy Bridge is quick but it also got the fans running faster. We'll see how it goes. Stay tuned! :)

Cool, I've heard airliners in the US require a bachelors degree to be able to fly for them. If you ask me that's stupid since you learn absolutely everything you need to be safe in the pilot education alone. The only reason they do this is because of the lack of jobs in this market lately. If there should ever be a lack of pilots, this is the first requirement to go ;)

To be a bit on topic; any eta on that unboxing? :)

And you have a good point about the T1/Fiber connection. My Envy is scheduled to arrive Thursday by 4:30. I'm off work on Friday!!! But I might go in anyway, because at my job, the the internet speed is 100 Mbps down and about 50 Mbps up!! It is rediculously fast. I'll probably go up there to download updates to all my programs and games that I'll install.

Nice, although minus the beer for me, not a big fan, found majority of beers to be bitter. Malt is great, although many malts are too sweet. Lol, sorry to sound so picky. :p

As to games...did you get your hands on Crysis 2? I started playing it on my dv7-4283cl. It plays on low setting of Gamer, but not 100% smoothly. I can't wait to find out what our Envy can do with Crysis 2....

The original video captured from the Canon SX20IS was a QuickTime .MOV file. The video is 9 minutes an 36 seconds long. Converting it from 1080p to 720p took about 3 minutes in Premiere Elements. I converted it to MPEG and the final file size was 476 mb. :)

That is FAST!! Does the included software include anything for converting audio files (WMA to mp3)? Or just video conversion only? And I'm curious to know if the Adobe Premier takes advantage of the Intel QuickSync?
