We have an amazing connection at my school so I'll probably upload the larger file there.
-
It's fairly easy. I'm sure you have an account with YouTube. to get started on a video just hit the "Upload" link at the top and select your footage.
-
Oh I have an account alright. In fact I recently had a camcorder from Costco. It was a nice Panasonic....I tried to do the unboxing with one hand (The Envy 17 3D SB that had the bad MOBO which I sent back to HP)...it came out so bad, I trashed the horrible video, lol. Shaking, in and out of focus, irregular zooming in and out.... One would get a serious headache. Next time when taking videos I'll get a tripod.

-
Would you post a link to the video? Thx
-
No worries. As soon as Stephan C's vid is up, I'm making the Official Envy 17/3D SB YouTube Video Thread....... All the new SB videos will be there, and I'll have 2.0 link it in the main directory.
Once the Official Video thread is up, anyone can post a link to their YouTube video there and I'll add it to the first page.... More to come soon.

Will the upload take a while Stephan C? Or should it be completely pretty soon?
-
Nono, I prefer that
And Killa Joe: how can you not like beer? Hehe.
I'll definitely get Crysis2, but I love buying my games through steam, so I'll do it once the Envy is up and running. -

So excited to see the unboxing Stephan C!!!
-
I am not going to play it anymore. I don't want to spoil all the fun....so I'm leaving the rest for my Envy.
Its funny...how the Crysis team did a 180 degree turn. You know how people were complaining about Crysis having the worst programing ever, well, Crysis 2 is amazing! Graphics and gameplay even on a silly dv7-4283cl plays ok....so you know we're in for a treat.
P.S. I'm being unreal...refreshing YouTube once in a while thinking the video would just show up.

I'm assuming that my connection might be being throttled by my ISP right now because the uploading bar hasn't moved in 30 minutes. I may have to do the entire thing tomorrow.
-
collectiveantics Notebook Enthusiast
Noooooooooooooooo!
Upload it in lower quality?
-
Like super low quality??? I guess that's a possibility? hang on...
-
Stephan C, no problem. We appreciate the effort. I hope it will work tomorrow. Thanks for the update. You rock!
KJ
-
Haha, funny you should mention that, as I'm halfway through a bottle of max myself
-
Lol, I know its way way off topic, but what are they putting in that?? It tastes damn good for a diet drink......
P.S. Stephan C, if you are gonna upload in super low quality, you think you can still do the higher quality tomorrow?

Killa Joe
Of course I'll still upload the 1080p! I won't let this new camera go to waste!
collectiveantics
I've started an upload with the video in 320p. Premiere Elements is getting much more use than I thought it would.
-
collectiveantics Notebook Enthusiast
Thanks so much stephan. Lol, I am so excited.
-
Please watch the 320p version on YouTube at:
YouTube - Envy 17 3D SB Unboxing
Will work on getting the 1080p version up soon!
-
I just remembered that I was supposed to trim part of the video. There's probably a section that doesn't make sense. I'll do my best to correct that tomorrow. Thanks for your patience.
-
Thanks, watched it and the laptop looks stunning. Can't wait for thursday and to open mine.
And I'm amazed you actually have knife to open the box, lol. I usually use keys or whatever metal I can find nearby
-
cool video
-
Thanks...looks so sexy even in that low resolution. I don't know how I'm gonna bear selling the replacement I'm getting and waiting for the 3D
-
ya'll check your laptop's location...mine is in MEMPHIS, TN already lol
-
Thanks for watching!
As for the knife, that was only part of the preparation for that video. Prior to filming it I spent about an hour adjusting lighting. I have a studio set up in my room designed for video and photography. I'll post pictures when I'm through getting the Envy videos uploaded.
-
.......................................................
-
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
-
Thanks Stephan C!!!! You rock. I'd rep you again if I could....
I will look forward to any updates and further videos from you. In the meantime, here is the link to the video thread I made. you are the first, congradts!

Oh, I will comment and subscribe to your channel.

see Hp has changed the outer box that the envy comes in, mine came in a stronger outter box that had a handle on it in the center top flaps, makes it easier for fedex guys to handle it, rather then just throwing and pushing it ...jus' sayin'...otherwise..i'm glad ur happy with ur sexy beast...enjoy it!!!
-
Wow, mine too. Perhaps there's hope for a wednesday delivery even, or do fedex ever deliver early?
-
Thanks!
There's actually 1 other segment to thus video that I'll put together tomorrow morning. Again, thanks for watching and making my experience with the Envy so terrific!
-
I didn't notice. I wasn't there to sign for the package but I'm hoping it was handled safely. There weren't any visible blemishes on the box so it looks like the shipping process was gentle.
-
Stephan C, I have to say, it is the best unboxing video I have yet seen on YouTube. I enjoyed the comments....you even mention the plastic covering, the little cardboard insert...a very complete video. I have a sense you left us with a "part 2" pending which would make sense if you were going to do a general review of the notebook. v
P.S. Actually, it felt very professional, as if you were trying to sell me the laptop...Hmmmm, are you sure you don't work for the Home Shopping Club or something?
Very well spoken.
KJ
-
Mine too. I guess ours skipped the usual Anchorage, Alaska stop. Hmm...
I wonder if maybe they have a different route for those of us closer to the east coast? -
Nicoooooooooooole Notebook Enthusiast
Nice video man! Very professional. The low quality video worked great on my Blackberry mobile Youtube. -
Nicoooooooooooole Notebook Enthusiast
Mines still in AK :/ -
Package available for clearance. Hope that doesn't take long
-
just a day or two
mine is right there with yours, so let's hope our friends at customs work overtime to get these cleared.
-
well, I can clearly say you are WRONG. Mine is right with yours, and I would not call Los Angeles to be closer to the East Coast, lol. So now I am hoping they actually get it on a plane and do not truck it out here from Memphis....well custom clearance first....hope they start working early.
Anybody knows where I can get an intel 510 for cheap, lol.
btw. checked the C drive on my office desktop (only system and most esential of my programs installed on C)....it is 155 GB....guess I really do need the 240GB SSD. -
Well mine arrived yesterday and it's all good
. The only weird thing was that it comes set up in raid 0 - I've got the 160gb ssd / 640gb hdd combo. In raid 0 there is only 250 or so gb spare. Particularly with ssd / hdd combo just don't see the point in having raid 0 plus I have to reinstall the system to revert it.
Ah well, a minor time waster! Just had time last night to watch one of the 3d trailers - not the main reason I bought it, but was pretty impressed with it. I've gone full whack with the 2820 processor and 8th ram, so I'm eager to see what this can do!
Next to my Sony f12 the screen apart from being a tad bigger, is alot brighter - much better for viewing. Now my f12 is a US one with the shiny screen.
I was pretty impressed with the packaging and the looks - up have gone to alot of trouble here and although I haven't really tested the sound it already seems way superior to the vaio f12.
I'm comparing to vaio as I was going to get the new vaio f, but the poor graphics card really let's it down. Better graphics and 2 hdds is a real bonus - I wonder how the screens compare - question is, am I bothered the Envy is ticking all the boxes already and I haven't played on it yet!
Don't you just hate it when work gets in the way
-
I give you credit for taking all of that preparation work to make your video!
Sorry about the multiple YouTube posts... like I said... its a clunker; waiting on a new ATI Mobility RADEON X1800 256 video card for my Dell M2010; I'm going to hate putting that 20" widescreen to the second banana slot; but I'm sure its going to be worth it when my Envy gets here.
Enjoy yours! -
Mine is already in Orlando, FL, which means it will probably go out today, or tomorrow. Woow I'm impressed with FedEx right now, having worked for the Norwegian Postal services for 4 years myself. Amazing speed for a normal delivery package.
-
Nice one!
Thanks for the update! -
I can't believe they are still doing this. I exchanged mine a month ago because of this same problem. I was concerned of spending too much time doing a new installation, and I got mine pretty fast the first time (in less than 10 days after I placed my order.) Good luck doing the fresh install.
-
I have my laptop on order and I also got the dual hard drives. So let me understand. Since it comes setup in RAID 0 that means it will use the treat BOTH hard drives as 160gb correct? Thus losing out on the remaining of the 640 gb hard drive? Thats a loss of 480 gb of space. Are they kidding me??? How do you remedy this??
-
I was aware of this a while ago. I am prepared to break the array and reset. With some additional info from Cam121...I am going to try to write a short guide on how to fix this problem. Make sure that you:
1. Create your recovery DVD's
2. Burn a copy of the directory C:\SWSWETUP It will require a dual layer DVD.
Once you have these in hand...you will be able to reset things. Be aware...that when you break the array you will lose everything on the drives. So if you didn't do 1 and 2...you may need to call HP and purchase a Recovery set.
My machine should be here Thursday (according to FEDEX tracking)...I am going to back up the machine with Acronis...then create my Recovery DVD's and SWSETUP. From that point on...I am going to write a step by step guide. Depending on how quickly I can progress...I will send a copy to HP to post on their website and try to post one here. It will hopefully contain photos and how to's.
One other thing...go here...and download HDDErase 3.3 and you will need to create a bootable floppy:
How to Secure Erase (reset) an Intel Solid State Drive (SSD) - IIS Hacks | Server and System Administration
http://www.windowsitpro.com/article...state-disk-ssd-to-a-fully-erased-clean-state-
Familiarize yourself with the article. The SSD is going to need to be reset to factory condition before you try a system recovery. You can delete files from an SSD, but they are NOT gone like a hard drive. Mechanical hard drives will overwrite deleted files....you cannot do that on an SSD. The cells must be erased.
More to come when I receive my machine -
On truck out for delivery, damn, fedex that's pretty amazing.
-
That is correct! Please make note of my response to Virtua. Some additional facts...When in RAID 0 with mechanical HDD...the speed of the array is dictated by the slowest drive...also...Windows 7 has a command called TRIM when deleting files from an SSD. Mech HDD will overwrite files marked deleted. SDD will not. Just know that when you delete files from an SSD...they still occupy cells on the drive and that effects amount of usable space and other things. Trim will clean the cells for you. However, in RAID...when you delete files...they remain...and TRIM doesn't work in RAID mode, AT ALL!
This shouldn't be an overwhelming issue. Cam121 already did a system recovery on his system weeks ago and has things working perfectly well. -
Thanks BOB. Unfortunately this is way beyond my knowldege of computers. If I tried all that Id mess up somewhere. Will HP NOT use RAID 0 if you call and ask them not to since mine is still in production?
-
I told someone high up in HP about it, already. He passed the info along...if my machine is RAIDED...so will everyone else's. Mine was built yesterday 4/11. It should not be too difficult to do the recovery. I would think that Tech Support might be able to walk you through this as well. This is NOT a major issue. Someone in the Shanghai plant either didn't understand SSD and how they work...or was just plain "Out to Lunch" when they got this brainstorm.
-
Question: Can we assume that ALL dual drive configurations will be in the Raid 0 configuration? Or just those which include the HDD + SSD? I ordered the 2TB configuration (1TB + 1TB), and if I have to re-format, I'm calling HP for some more money, for the inconvenience.
