Virtua,
Well, well said. Thank you for taking the time to summarize our frustrations. Hope Leo gets the message.
I have never experienced such frustration over purchasing a product and I have not even received it. HP took my money on March 9 with a promise of shipment by March 30. If I ever receive it I should return it on principle. The utter disdain that HP holds for its customers seems to be unequaled.
Thanks again.

Yus I did Koopal!

Hyperboled...
You need to call Resolutions and tell them that people that ordered machines after yours was supposed to ship are already getting theirs. Seems to me that your order is sitting on a shelf somewhere. Don't just call customer service...this needs to get accelerated up the ladder until someone can actually call China and get an answer. That machine should already be in your hands...my original ship date was 4/8 and they missed it by 3 working days. You are well beyond that... -
Yeah somethig is definitely wrong there. I ordered APril 7th and mine shipped TODAY.
-
There are usually constraint issues too. Hyperboled - what is your config? Maybe a particular part is different than the ones that are coming in ahead of yours?
-
I dont believe it !!! I found this is my email account! Fri, April 15, 2011 1:46:03 AM

Couldn't be happier
-
I'm envious of everyone that's got shippment notifications. My luck ill get mine in july haha maybe I shouldn't joke about that cause anythings possible reading this thread
-
From where?
-
I have called Resolutions more than once. They insist that my build date is April 18 (originally March 30). I pointed out that other orders have been shipped. They come back with product constraints. I will call again and demand a supervisor. Thanks.
-
In case y'all haven't noticed in your email notice of shipping you have an option to pre-sign for your order if you won't be at home to receive it:
478014751XXX(FedEx)
May not be active immediately
Pre-sign for this shipment
Of course you will only want to do this if you know your deliveryman and have a safe location for the item to be left at. -
Sorry to hear this. HP worked a replacement deal for me on March 25 with build date of April 20th, but how is all this possible, if others who ordered on April 8 are getting theirs shipped today? Parts difference?
Lol, call me Mr. Skeptical.
hyperboled, yeah, let us know what you find out.

Germany! Why whats up?
I know that the neatherlands and Switzerland should be shipping now. (The dutch prices are ludacris btw!!!)
the UK will follow soon.. they are getting rid of their last stock it seems. -
KJ, I think I am probably getting the one you returned. That would explain it...
-
Hey guys, off topic question here. The first Ency 17 3D I returned had the i7 740qm processor. Now my new one has the it 2630 SB. Did I gain in performance or no?
-
I've seen several posters say that the 2630 SB will run circles around the 740.
Of course you will know best as you've experienced the 740. Now you can post here as to how the 2630 performs in comparison.

PassMark Intel vs AMD CPU Benchmarks - High End
Check this out. Don't know how accurate this is (others can weigh in on these marks), but the 2630qm is up in the upper portion. The 740qm is much lower.
740qm rated at 3,584
2630qm rated at 6,320
Seems like a big jump to me. Everything I've read is that the 2630, 2720, 2820, and 2920 that are being used are just a huge jump compared to the last generation and even outperforms many of the top desktop CPUs from the last few generations. -
KJ, I didnt really have the 740 long enough to really experience it. The reason I ask is the 740 is the 2nd tier of the old i7's and the 2630 is the lower tier of the i7 Sandy Bridge. So I was curious as to how different performance would be.
By the way, I checked out the Dell XPS 17 3D config on their site and they offer more options for the processor including i5's (not that Id go with an i5) -
i am in the same boat as hyperboled. i ordered my envy on mar 10 with an estimated ship date of mar 28. then CSR verbally told me it was delayed till Apr 15, but then i got an email saying it was delayed until Apr 18. it doesn't make any sense why people who ordered later are getting their laptops earlier????
-
OK...I have the RAID recovery guide written and ready to go. It is 3 MB in size...where can I post for everyone to access?????
It is pretty straight forward.... -
Ya, check out the CPU options for the NON-3D Envy 17. They offer a lot more. I would gladly have taken a 2720. I feel like that's the best value of performance for your money. Don't know why the 3D doesn't offer more.
-
Has anyone orded an Envy 17 3D lately? It seems like they are no longer offering the Recovery Discs when you customize the notebook online...
That's kinda annoying. I really don't want to waste time burning my own discs at this point.
Is it true that you can't use Dual Layer DVDs when creating the recovery media? -
If you have dropbox you could just put in your public folder then post the link. There's also file-sharing sites like rapidshare, megaupload.
You could also just email it to me, I can upload it for ya if you want -

Anyone who wants a copy can download it from here -
Those of you getting early notices about your systems being built/shipped, what specs did you have? I ordered the same time as some of you (early April), and haven't heard anything yet.
Like someone else said, I'm wondering if they are waiting on one component (CPU?), but have plenty of others and can build faster since others have to wait for components.
I ordered:
2820qm (had to go for it with the discounts!)
1tb drive
8gb ram
And I'm still waiting (though nothing is late yet and I know others have been waiting much longer, I'm just curious because some have received early notices)
Maybe I'm waiting because, I got a free upgrade to the "extra dents, scratches, and hardware issues" option since I called early to complain about something.
-
Nice work.
-
ok so i just called resolutions. they said that my build date was moved from apr 15 to apr 18. i got really mad at them and i told them that they delayed it once already and sent me a 15% off my next purchase. if i were to use this coupon i would be saving about $75 from my current build, couldn't you just credit me the $75 to match the price. He said he would credit me the $75 for my troubles then i told him that i wanted 2 day shipping also and he said he couldn't do that but he would try to expedite the order.
so come monday Apr 18 if i don't get an email from HP with a tracking number they are going to get another call from me
-
The guide seems a littlee confusing. Isn't the whole point of recovery discs so that you DON'T a separate Windows 7 installation disc?
Like why wouldn't the recovery discs work alone when you reboot the system after it finishes whatever its doing with Disc 5? -
Thanks for the info. I didn't order this configuration, but I thumbed through it for the knowledge.
I order the 750GB 5400 drive and have an 80GB SSD ready to install once my machine gets here next week. My only question is, whats the best way to go about installing it as my primary drive. Can I Use the recovery disks and follow the steps you provided? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
"Like I always say, if you plan ahead, then when things happen you're prepared." -Hank Hill -
The issue is that after recovery...the master boot record is set up for RAID. With either the Win 7 recovery disk, Or doing the Disk 1 again after recovery and removing...you need to get to a C prompt to repair the mbr. Guess I should change that
-
Oh okay. That makes much more sense. o the master boot record can ONLY be fixed through command prompts?
That's pretty much the underlying problem with the system then and why we need this whole guide I suppose.
Thanks. Hopefully by the time I order my Envy 17 3D this whole "raid fiasco" will be done and over with.
But then again I plan on getting a 3rd party SSD and installing Windows 7 fresh so I guess its not really a concern for me.
Overally though its really a great guide. -
I fixed it! The whole reason for the guide is that once recovered...the Master boot record still anticipates a TWO disk array. By doing the repair at the command prompt you pretty much let the reboot repair the mbr to the configuration you now have, thus making the machine bootable once again.
-
I truly believe that since my machine was configured properly...that the powers that be got it fixed. One can hope that this guide is only for the systems shipped before April 10. Will have to wait and see.
-
Bobmitch, thanks for the great guide. Ok, I'm going to redownload. Hope I won't need it.
KJ
-
Thanks for the guide Bobmitch. I hope I don't need to go through this, but it will be very helpful if I get the exchange computer with the same problem. I am not sending it back this time!!
Thanks again,
Charly2nd -
After you complete the steps in the guide did you have to load anything from the swsetup folder??
Also, has anyone installed using a windows 7 disc instead of the HP recovery. Any benefit to that?? -

I am among those who ordered last week (9th) with the 25% off. Estimated to ship the 26th. Just shipped today. 6 day turnaround is bad%&#. I ordered an. E173D, 2630, default hdd, 8g ram.
-
Having used the recovery disks...you are basically back to the day you received the machine in "Brand New" condition. No need to load anything
-
Phen, how did you get yours for 1369 with the 2830? I got the 2630 for the same price with the 25% off.
-
I fully credit Cam121 for the fix...he had done it before. I also want to give credit to Virtua, whom, without a Windows 7 disk...found a way to force the C:\ prompt. He basically go to the error...put disk 1 back in and removed it when the "Windows is loading files" prompt came up...forcing an error...incredible find!
-
So in essence this forces the CPU to use the Windows 7 on the Recovery Disks instead of looking for a fresh Windows 7 DVD from the store?

Has anyone noticed if hp ships out daily or just on fridays?
-
Yes, but I thought windows 7 "sees" when it is being installed on an SSD and changes its settings to accomadate. I am wondering if HP Recovery goes through the windows 7 install process or if it is a imaging type software. If it is the latter I see a problem for us people who are swapping the HDD for an SSD.
-
Dang, kudos phen. Also, shipped today est arrival is the 20th.
-
I too would like to know how you got that deal and/or which coupon you convinced them to apply. I'm about to ask HP one more time for a rebate otherwise my current Envy is going back and I want to order the same one you just bought (plus a 9cell battery).
EDIT: Nevermind, I can see that we cross posted and you inadvertently answered my question. Thanks. -
Remember he got the 5400 rpm hard drive. Thats why, or else it woul dbe $600 more.
-
Yeah I know, but if I can buy one for his price ($1369.99) and install an Intel SSD bought from EBAY ($290) and a Seagate or WD Scorpio ($109) plus the extra HDD bracket ($45) it will cost about $1,813.99 before tax. Add Tax and that's about $1,940 which is about $450 less that what I paid for my current Envy, plus I'd get a larger and better secondary drive and have a spare 750GB HDD.
-
I dont need the 2820, definitely not for an extra $350. I would rather have the dual drive so I sprung for that since I got the 25% coupon. The 2630 is still faster than any of the previous processors on the last generastion Envy 17 3D, and I dont think there's much of a difference in performance anyway.
