    Just a dumb question...Is anyone who ordered a 2820 in the past month still waiting for delivery? I received mine...2630 as did others. Not sure what the delay could be. For the longest time, the delay was due to the lack of chassis parts (the actual enclosure itself). Components were not the issue...but I am beginning to wonder...

    Coolsense works fine on my laptop, doesn't freeze up nor give me Windows error messages causing it to terminate. But it wouldn't surprise me for it to crash due to a PSU inefficiency, after all CoolSense should technically be linked to the ACPI which would be affected by the PSU.

    I doubt you will need to call more then once, HP already put in my order for a new AC Adapter for my Envy 17 after telling them I tried my previous Envy 17's AC adapter and it worked fine. I recommend using chat.

    My i7-2630QM throttles even at 63c~ using my AC adapter to let you know. It runs at around 1.7 ghz then goes all the way down to 700 mhz under 100% full load using Prime95.

    How can these sandy bridge chips reach much higher temps in macbook pro's but get throttled down in the envy?

    Silly question here.. but should the 2630 run cooler than the 2820 simply because its a less powerful processor?

    I may have found something...here is the Processor settings in the Power applet in Control panel. I have an i7 950 that has turbo boost in my desktop. I am posting the settings for the Envy first...then will post the settings for the desktop from the desktop. All I can say is that the desktop processor max and minimums are set at 100%. Look at the Envy...The desktop settings for comparison. I set my plugged in settings to 100% and my minimum setting for battery to 50%. Running 3DMark11 right now to see if the processor stays over 2.0 GHZ. When I ran it earlier...processor showed 1536 MHZ.

    3DMark11 complete...avg processor speed 2593 MHZ....this might be the solution

    Power minimum and max are set to 0% and 100% accordingly. This is the first thing I do on every laptop I get, change the power settings for sleeps/display turn off/hibernation/etc etc.
    I am 100% it's the power adapter anyways as the previous Envy 17's adapter did not throttle the processor.

    I placed my order on 03/22/2011 (this is an exchange), with delivery date expected for 4/12/2011. I ordered the one with the highest configuration.
    Still waiting.

    Well, despite calling 4 times to confirm my payment info before, the process was never actually completed and so I had no computer ordered, EVEN though all 4 times I was told that the order was reinstated and the order was put through.

    After redoing the order, I called back to resolutions to explain how inconvenient this has all been and that I was thinking about cancelling the order because the build date is now 3 weeks later than the original and I just "a very unsatisfied customer." The woman at resolutions just said, "ok I will transfer you to sales so you can cancel the order." I said that I'd rather not cancel it, but it's just been a bad experience, and she asked me 2 more times if I would like to be transferred to sales to cancel the order.

    VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION! The order if currently 'pending'. Is it better to try to work with resolutions while the order is pending or after the order is in the system?

    Okay here's what I have found so far on my Envy 17 SB:
    1. The CPU throttles after some time, however it isn't due to temperature but more then likely due to the either the PSU or motherboard. Temperatures stay at 62c-65c~ with Furmark+Prime95 running but the CPU stays clocked at around 700-1.4 ghz and only uses 13 watts of power. I suspect the power supply is faulty or perhaps the motherboard.

    Either way testing is done, once I get the new PSU I will be able to test further.

    Cindy was able to apply my $300 off coupon I had on top of HPA, which was supposedly not possible. So she did some 'magic' for my inconvinience.

    Yeah, but what about the issue of device manager and the SSD? Were you able to determine if that is "normal" the way its configured, since I know you were questioning it...

    Can anyone help please!? :p Am getting desperate! I only have a very short time before my 21 days return date to exchange the machine runs out. :/ It would be a shame to get cought up in the "repair" cycle where machines mysteriously get scratches and other sorts of damage.

    YES it is, because you install Intel Rapid Storage Driver, which causes that. I checked with others...even after clean install...once you do this, you get the RAID controller in Device Manager instead of ATAPI devices. All is fine

    I don't know, they've already told me that it is their departments that are declining the order because the shipping and billing addresses don't match. When I got the new order placed finally, I was told that it wouldn't be declined because I've already confirmed the previous order and the new one would be linked to the first one. Few minutes after that, I got a message and email saying the new order was also declined.

    I'm talking to them right now and they admitted over the phone that they made a mistake and that's why the new order was declined also.

    I've been pushing both the sales and resolutions department and they are like a vault so far. Sales just told me that they absolutely have no power to change the prices/coupons/etc, and resolutions simply told me that I can cancel if I'm unhappy.

    It's not like I'm making up things out of nowhere to complain about so they just want to get rid of me. I've been through 2 weeks, and about 10 phone calls, of hell trying to just get the computer ordered and I'd like 1. find out what happened with the original order and why it was never put through despite me confirming the billing info 5 times 2. ask how I can file a formal complaint about this experience so that maybe it will help other customers in the futrue 3. It's been the worst buying experience I've ever experienced in my life and I'm pretty unsure if I want to even continue the order or just cancel it.

    I don't have a headset with mic built in to try...but do you have an external mic from another computer around? Perhaps an old Soundblaster external mic or the like? Hook it up and run windows recorder and see if it works.

    Also make sure in Control panel that you are set to "Communications Headphones"

    Once an order is submitted to their computer system, the agents generally have no power to change an order or coupons. They can refund money to your credit card *after* the system is shipped (ie. they will schedule the refund now but it doesn't kick in until the order is marked in transit).

    The sales people *do* have some power to give you discounts in order to facilitate a sale. As has been reported, some people get reps who are more inclined to offer better discounts to secure a sale; this appears to be related to the person you get and whether or not they are having a good day.

    Resolutions can schedule a cash back discount but they cannot place new orders or offer coupon codes.

    2. Send HP Nate an email with your circumstances, explain what happened and how they can do better.

    3. I would have given up by now, however given what you are trying to do, you have to know that a lot of companies are leery about shipping and credit billing addresses being different. Some companies flat out won't do business with you that way. It's a fraud preventive measure to protect you and them.

    I have an M-Audio stereo headset here that has two STEREO 3.5mm plugs, one for the earphones and one for the microphone.

    The microphone did not function in the Envy combo jack.

    Just to make sure I wasn't going batty I plugged them into an Acer laptop I have laying around here and they worked fine.

    I tried to find some documentation about the jack itself, but wasn't able to find anything useful.

    My assumption is that if you have a mono plug or a three/four channel plug it will auto configure itself either as a microphone only jack or a combination headphone/mic jack.

    I'm in the middle of a basement remodel so I can't get to any of my adapters or other audio gear right now. I would try either a stero->mono adapter (drop a channel) or a mono microphone and see if that works I bet it does.

    I'm working on order #3 now, since #2 was placed and declined in the last hour, and it's my contact in the resolutions department who is configuring and placing the 3rd order. Suddenly I'm wondering, why the heck couldn't they do that before?

    The 3rd order was just declined, this time by my credit card because they keep trying to run orders on it again and again. The resolutions guy told me to call back tomorrow morning and see if we can fix it.

    Ya I checked and, the 3rd order was declined because the first 2 orders are still pending on my credit card.

    Went through that :) and no luck. Changed drivers etc.

    I think I have went through 3 different mics/headsets overall.

    My headset is also 1 male mic Stereo and 1 male audio stereo plug.

    I have ordered a Y converter TRRS (the ones that you get for phones etc), they are hard to come by but it should take my stereo mic and audio and convert it into a single plug.
    I will receive it by the end of the week ... or next week (easter etc).

    Hopefully it will work!

    Thank you for testing!!! It means a lot to me!!! I probably won't have to send this laptop away :) .... will also look for some old mono mics.

    You can PM a message to "HP Nate" on these forums. There is no direct email address for him.

    You should call your credit card company and get them to approve this. Another fraud prevention mechanism...

    so I am on the online support chat right now, telling them about the throtteling. Funny as hell. The guy had no idea. I told him about you and he goes: "Oh well, sounds like you have a broken AC Adapter as well". They are setting up a replacement right now. He really had no idea if it will work or not. Only because I told him about you he came up with the idea that mine must be defective. Weirdest thing ever.

    Ok just got my Envy in the mail a full day before the expected shipping date and exactly on the date that my pc was supposed to be built...will be opening in the next few minutes :)

    cam121, correction. Resolutions CAN offer coupon codes. :D Well, not offer, but find/gather different coupon codes in their secret coupon chest and combine it to a max of $500. I am looking at my own situation if you recall. Resolutions worked very well to help me seek satisfaction for the Envy 17 3D SB that HP Envy tech said I had a bad mobo. So since the original $300 coupon code was gone, and the $100 discount for the one day sale HP had for calling in, a total of $400 on my first SB order.....And the fact I offered to pay a bit more for the SSD/HDD combo, Resolutions and the Resolutions Supervisor worked on "combining" various coupons to add up to $500. They offered me an additional $2xx something, but that would be credited once the Envy ships.

    In short, Resolutions can give you a $500 coupon max, and any thing more, they will credit you back upon shipment. Resolutions dept. rocks, only when they want to be sweet, lol. :p

    The issue I'm having now, is no delivery, no message, nothing... :( God help HP if I don't get notice tomorrow!!! :mad: Which of course is already a day late.

    P.S. I'm just sitting here wondering if they will even offer me the 15% delay credit since I already have nice savings....ARGH!

    ughhhhhhhhhhhhh HP. so i call them to confirm that i still want to continue with my delayed order. and i said that in the email you offered me 10% off my order. now the rep is saying we can't give you an additional 10% off because i'm getting to much credits back. so then why on earth would they send me an email stating they would give me 10% off. i'm starting to lose my marbles.
