Ordered 2820 and still waiting. Configured a comparable Dell XPS 17 3D and their estimated ship date is May 4. If you order their combo ssd + hdd, they include the caveat that it may delay your XPS ship date. These components must be in high demand.

hyperboled, when did you order, and when was your ship/build date? Edit: not sure if you added it now, or it was there before, I see you ordered March 9 (even earlier than mine, wow!) and you're is delayed to May 2, so I can expect the same bloody email! OH man...I will still try to get a delay credit..but not lookin good as you guys are not getting it.

Mine is also a 2820 with the SSD/HDD combo. Ordered (replacement) March 25 with est. build date Apil 20 (today :( ) naddaaa.....

i told them i can handle the delay. but what annoys me is when people that ordered their systems after me are getting them. it just doesn't make sense. the rep didn't know what to say to that. i could tell she wasn't reading from her script at that point.

Been playing for 2 days now :D .... different settings ... different driver versions .. etc etc. Came to the conclusion that the IDT drivers are not too good. Even called up an HP rep and asked him to reproduce it on his test machine... same result.

I just hope someone proves me wrong. But I think the Y connector will fix it. ... hope...

Ordered March 9, originally promised March 30, delayed to April 18, delayed again to May 2. When I called Resolutions regarding the 10% discount for the additional delay, I too was told they would not add this discount if you have prior discounts.

As far as I can tell only 2630s have been shipped in this last batch except the one shipped to mrgod2u. Makes you wonder if that is the one that you returned.

Hyperboled, a supervisor is supposed to call me tonight regarding the 10% off. if i don't get the 10% off i am going to be absolutely livid. what will be the point in emailing me that they would give me 10% off when i have to argue for it. i should automatically get it without having to jump through all these hoops.

KJ on another funny note i told the rep that they are a bunch of liars :p because the last time i called in they said they would credit me another $75. but she was saying that i wasn't going to get the $75 credit because in the notes it just mentions the credit and doesn't say that i got it. i said wait a minute. the rep told me that he would give me an extra $75 for my inconvenience and now you are saying that he didn't. so i told the lady that is what you call a liar.

I can't wait to speak to the supervisor tonight and see what she has to say :)

Acidbath, wow, I don't think I would have had it in me to call a rep. a "liar" but you never know. If my order really gets delayed, although I really feel for hyperboled, wow, guy has been waiting since March 8th and now told May 2nd? I'd be super livid, and want a credit!.... I will try to get a supervisor of Resolutions if I must. Don't forget, I've been super patient in trying to get a proper Envy 17 3D SB.... 7 months should count for something. :p

I guess when you lie it is difficult to keep your stories straight. I too was told when they approved my 15% discount for inconvenience that I would receive additional discounts for additional delays. Paul, the Supervisor I talked with regarding the recent 10% discount, told me they cannot approve more than one discount. I think they pass the title Supervisor around.

Just turned on my Envy. Build is nice except for the bright green pixel to the far left. I'll run some pixel fixers later and see if I can get it unstuck. In the mean time I will continue to my ssd set up.

Yeah, well, let me summerize just to bring back memories...

    1. October 2010 I ordered the Envy 17. Within 30 minutes of ordering and then Googling the Envy 17, I found out HP was soon coming with the Envy 17 3D....so called HP right back to canel my order. Now it was waiting for the Envy 17 3D to come out.

    2. About November 14, 2010 Ordered my first Envy 17 3D.

    2. November 23, 2010 Received my Envy 17 3D.

    3. November 24, 2010 Returned 1st Envy 17 3D because of metalic body warping/reorderd Envy 17 3D.

    4. December 9, 2010 Received replacement Envy 17 3D.

    5. January 3, 2011 Returned replacement Envy 17 3D because HP announced the Envy 17 3D SB will be out soon with better features such as Coolsense, and better performing processors.

    6. March 15, 2011 Received Envy 17 3D SB.

    7. March 19, 2011 Sent Envy 17 3D SB because of faulty MOBO.

    8. Currently waiting my replacement Envy 17 3D SB which was supposed to ship out today, April 20, 2011..... still no email notification. :(

Got my ENVY today and am liking it so far.

There are a few minor annoyances though, like the function keys for volume up/down, mute, etc. They don't work very well (for example in MPC-HC the mute button only mutes the player) and I'm used to better with my current VAIO.
I'm doing a fresh install as soon as my SSD arrives, and I'd like to gather the necessary information regarding drivers and stuff like the aforementioned function buttons beforehand.

So - does anyone know if there's a good alternative to the stock software for the function buttons?

Hey guys, i just received my laptop. Stupid question here but how do I check to see if I have the RAID 0 setup?

Also, what should I be doing right off the bat to make the laptop more efficient? for example I remember seeing a list of programs HP put on it that I should uninstall.

:D only problem I would see, your harddrives now cost almost more than the notebook :D
Was this just to proof a point or are you intending for it to run this way? If so, what kind of aps are you running that actually benefit from this?

Thanks, your guide is LONG! lol..I havent have the time to read it, but good job. I know you did spent some time creating it.

I think I'll go with intel, no issue on their X25M 2nd gen SSD on my E14.I'll wait until the price is more affordable. For people who do a clean install, I strongly recommend you to install the HP version of ATI+Intel driver which you can download from their website.

Dude, it is best not to use credit card that is not under your name or have different address. I would also cancel your order if I work for HP or the credit card company, that just looks shady.

I believe that if its RAID 0, the easiest clue is you would see both HD as one drive?I could be wrong. Raid 0 is mirroring, no parity right?

If you have a RAID setup...you will have ONE drive C: and it will be about 300 GB. If the configuration is correct...as mine...

C: is about 128 GB (that is because the remainder is recovery partition E)
    D: A blank 640 GB drive
    F: BD / DVD R drive

There is no AHCI in the bios. Just RAID and non RAID. I think it is enabled by default. Plus...once you install Intel Rapid Storage drivers, your SATA will show up as your RAID controller...and RAID runs AHCI

I think im the first one. Doesnt every single other person with the SSD + HDD have RAID on their drives?? What are the chances I they fixed it starting with mine?!?! Thank you God!!! And thank you to all you guys who called HP and complained. You're the ones who did it so thank YOU. I really didnt feel like dealing with that headache. Also, EVERYTHING with my Envy seems to be perfect. Oh man what a relief.

One other thing... earlier on in this thread someone made a list of programs you should go ahead and uninstall that it came with. Anyone know which ones I should get rid of?

Wow, I just got my Envy. I ordered on 4/8 and had an expected ship date of 4/26 at the time of the order. Accounting for an additional 5 days for transit, I estimate that I got the laptop about two weeks ahead of time. I also saved $534.50 using the 25% coupon. Nice... Well sort of...

Here's the rub. I have a stuck red pixel. I seem to remember someone else having this same issue and I believe they sent their computer back. Did I just get a refurbished unit?

I ordered the faster processor and base HD (as I might updgrade to SSD on my own). So how did I get this computer so quickly when others that ordered before me are still waiting?

Other than the one stuck red pixel, the laptop seems pretty sweet. The red pixel is like a demon eye staring back at me. It is very obvious. Do pixel exercisers really work (such as "dead pixel tester")? Anyone have a suggestion on how to possibly fix this issue. Otherwise this baby might be going back (maybe for the second time).

    frankieo11,

There is at least one other that I know of in this thread that received the 160SSD/640HDD 7200r's that came as yours did today.

I've been to the gun store got my new lobster net, 100 rounds of ammo for my pig rifle (Japanese Type 38 6.5x50mm) a war trophy, perfect for pigs, if its still alive when you walk up on em you stick with the 16" bayonet.

I'm having a surf-n-turf party to celebrate my new toy, pig and lobster!

I'm finally all set as well. Vertex3 in place, and switched out the faulty 6200 Wifi with a 6300, and I'm now running the latest drivers without any freezes whatsoever. It took it's toll getting there, but now the envy is finally shaping up to be a computer I'd like to keep for a while.

Misunderstanding. I was only making a comment about the keyboard. The Dell simply feels nicer to me. But in defenes of the XPS's looks, I've got one right next to my Envy and it's really still a solid machine. Given, not as crisp as the Envy's appearence but not shabby at all. Maybe an 8.5 to the Envy's 9.5

Just an odd real life test I wanted to report: I just watched Tron: Legacy in 1080p on my television using the HDMI port on the Envy. Unbeknownst to myself, I had accidentally left my Envy unplugged from the wall outlet, so it was running off battery power the entire time. I was also downloading via Wi-Fi the entire time at a rate of approximately 1 MB/s. I nearly got through the whole film! (Around 1.75 hours, the film is 2 hours long). It was running via discrete graphics and using the highest performance setting available. I'm pleasantly surprised.

Well mine just got in about 35-40 minutes ago, un-boxed it and spread it out on my bed and tossed the Envy on a pop up camp table with a wine crate upside down above it. I put the 9 cell battery in and started the charge; haven't even fired it up yet.

On a quickie inspection in a dim room with no lights on there appears to be no blemishes but I'll give it a through look over later; I have a business report I have to finish first; the exterior box was dinged up some and has a couple small tears in it and the finish looked well rubbed from friction, the interior plastic bagged box had a small hole in the plastic and the interior envy box had some pressure deformities; I guess they were in a hurry to get it in the big box.

I'll give a detailed evaluation of it latter on or tomorrow; I'm a certified warranty inspector for over 20 engine manufactures and upon my close inspection I will cut no quarter on the blemishes if any and I'll be checking it on the ability to notice .001 inch defects; in engines this matters; can't wait to see how the Envy fairs.

The rifle is part of my 47 piece security system

That happened a lot when I was purchasing my HDX 18t a few years ago. The box itself looked like FedEx or HP had thoroughly abused it and as a result I couldn't trust that the laptop was working properly. I ended up sending it back a couple of times due to these little nicks and scratches...

    No comment on the rifle....

Well I'm up and running I have all my system stuff and programs on an 80gb ssd and installed a 500gb 7200rpm WD Scorpio black. So far so good besides the one green stuck pixel. I'll decide what to do about that later. I already forgot about it.

I'm trying to get used to the trackpad, I don't know if i reinstalled it right. The scrolling and what not doesn't seem to be working, but i'm not annoyed yet.

Overall, I'm really enjoying the laptop so far. I'll install CS5 mastersuite and begin real work tomorrow.
