I know you have the 2820...and I only have the 2630. Your processor has Virtualization...which mine does not...Just for fun...go into the bios of the machine...disable Virtualization and then run the test again...what do you get????
-
Funny you mentioned Virtualization.... I noticed also in my BIOS it is turned off initially. Does the laptop gain or lose in performance when Virtualization is on? For those with 2820s, does it depend when we have it on, or can it be left on 24/7 without loss of usability of the laptop?
KJ
-
Here is the Result with Virtualization on. Its a bit higher but 3DMarks fluctuate a bit. Anything is worth a shot at this point hehe!
-
I am not sure, but because I run Windows Vista Home Premium on my desktop, I don't have it inabled on my i7 950. Doesn't seem to harm the machine not having it on. As a matter of fact...a drawback of the Intel chipsets with Virtualization...is what they call a double pump...when you turn your machine on with virtualization enabled...powers up...off for a second or two and powers back on. A shortcoming of Virtualization...On the laptop...that probably won't happen...but as far as performance...just a shot in the dark on my part...but seems that most of the throttling is being done with the 2820...
I know that Virtualization is a big plus when running Win 7 Professional or Ultimate...when you want to run programs in WinXP mode -
Headed in the right direction. And you answered KillaJoe's question...Virtualization does add to the machine speed. Now here is another possibility. Download the AMD Catalyst 11.4's.
AMD Catalyst 11.4 (Official Release) - Download & Discussion - Guru3D.com Forums
You want the Catalyst Mobility for Windows 7 64 Bit.
Now...the way I successfully installed them...run the installer. Choose Custom and install EVERYTHING BUT Catalyst Control Center. Leave the HP CCC installed. This will replace your AMD drivers and leave the Intel drivers intact for Switchable graphics. When you reboot...go into Device manager and double click the AMD 6800 series card check the driver version...should say 8.841. Those are the new drivers. They raised my 3D Mark 11 score by 100 points. See if they help you...
Where you seem to suffer is in the Physx score...half...hmmm. Maybe the new drivers will help.
Also...when you get a minute...check Catalyst Control Center. Under hardware tab...what is the clock speed of your 6850? Mine is core 575 and Memory 900 which x 2-1.8 GHZ
BTW...notice your top rating for your CPU...you hit 3.0 GHZ... -
hey guys....i have a first gen. 17 3d got it in december....17 720qm 1.6..turbo boost 2.8...here is my benchmark score...tell me is this a good score or not..thank you guys in advance....P1609 3DMarks....rad this test with just 3dmark11 basic
-
Not bad for first generation. If you want to try the new ATI Catalyst 11.4's...they might have an effect on that. Could move you into the 1700 range. Bit for i7 720...not too shabby
-
....but in reading through this thread, i heard that the 11.4 will also disable ur hotkeys for brightness
-
This is my concern too. If so, then maybe its not a bad idea to wait until 11.5 comes out?
KJ
-
That is true. Now...I keep my brightness the same all the time at 7, so it doesn't effect me. If it does you...what about just going to the 2nd Generation Envy 17 3D page and downloading the drivers from our systems...newer than yours...
AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver HP ENVY 17t-2000 CTO 3D Edition Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
Shouldn't hurt your brightness hot keys -
I am not sure if 11.5 will allow hot keys to work, either. Remember...HP manipulates the drivers for their use...what you get from AMD are straight drivers...no mods...
-
yes killa...thats y i am hesitant to download 11.4.....
-
hey bob thanks for ur response and suggestion..but i dont think this driver supports 5850..or does it..it says it supports 6850
-
Bobmitch, I suppose for those of us not crazy about losing the hot key functionality, if we don't update to the 11.4 are we seriously limiting the potential of our graphics card? I know you mentioned you got an extra 100 in the 3D mark, but is that significant enough to justify the update? I am wondering if maybe there are other tweaks that 11.4 gives the user that we are still not aware about and I'd hate to lose out on that....
I guess what I'm asking is how much more is 11.4 giving us that its worth losing the hot keys for? If it is very significant I guess perhaps....
KJ
-
If you know how to mod the install file you can. It has three listings for 6850...change to 5850 and they will work
-
ok bob, how do go about changing it to 5850?...thank you
-
I would not say that you are limiting the potential. Each driver generation is written to fix bugs and squeeze performance out of the cards. It is still very early in the life of the Radeon 6000 series...and I doubt that HP will ever update the drivers we have. As AMD writes new drivers...they get more and nore out of the hardware. With that said...does that mean that you are behind? NO! The stock drivers work fine. Should you decide to install a newer game that just came out...there may be issues...but you don't know until you try. As far as upgrading to newer drivers as a "must"...nah!
-
Bobmitch, thanks as always. Lol, tried to +1 rep you but I too get the message to spread the reps a bit....more to come in the future.

Check your PM Or let me see if I can do it for you here:
Unzip the file from HP to a folder...then do not install yet. Let's say you unzip to a folder called C:\ATI\
Then you look for C:\ATI\Packages\Drivers\Display\W764_INF
Inside the folder is a file called C7110444
Double click and open it
Look for the following Lines:
[Manufacturer]
%ATI% = ATI.Mfg, NTamd64.6.1
[ATI.Mfg.NTamd64.6.1]
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6570" = ati2mtag_Manhattan_PXAI, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C0&SUBSYS_1593103C
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6570 " = ati2mtag_Manhattan, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C0&SUBSYS_1594103C
"ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6570 " = ati2mtag_Manhattan_PXAI, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68C0&SUBSYS_1599103C

then if you install the drivers...will recognize your card
If you don't like how they work for you...simply reinstall your original drivers and all will go back to what you have -
thanks much Bob...
-
heres mine Result
-
No problem...glad to help
-
Stepping out...back at 11
-
thanks again..this is my full result... Result

BTW...I know not related to the post at all. The United States government has the body of Bin Laden in it's custody. I guess he was killed in the past few days...the 911 saga has another chapter.

May all the lives lost since that tragic day rest in a little more peace this day!

I normally don't celebrate another humans death, but in this case it's not a human, so good riddance. The world just became a better place.
-
I haven't tried that yet, but I ran stock drivers on my first Envy, and I was trying to run stock so I can compare the two. I'm going to install the other drivers just to check though im sure they will go up HP's drivers aren't all that great. oh and yes for the other tests my processor will float to higher than 3Ghz, but for whatever reason the exact test that tests the CPU it stays locked at 798 Mhz. Go figure. I have also tried just running the one physics test and its the same result as well, still half of my old identical Envy.
Thanks guys for posting some more results for me. Its looking more and more like I got a lemon.
Edit - Results. Improvement but my Physics Score and PT are still half of what I used to get on my previous Envy. -
Nice, this is with stock drivers and clock speeds?

Nicoooooooooooole Notebook Enthusiast
Uhh guys I have this problem that occurred recently. Whenever I plugg my laptop charger in before it starts up, it does not start up. Like if i have my laptop charging while the power is off and I turn on my laptop, it wont start up. Do you guys know whats wrong?
Another problem I notice is that whenever I start up my laptop, it would start..the screen would turn black for 2 seconds and start up again. You cannot possibly tell me my Envy is effed up when I got it almost 3 weeks ago. :/ help? -
Nicoooooooooooole Notebook Enthusiast
Also, I notice that each time I download something it freezes. What the heck is up?
-
Not sure the Envy is, but the first thing you need to figure out is if you have a bad Power Supply unit. I highly suggest that you get HP to send you another. If the problem persists...probably some bad connection on your motherboard. What happens if the battery is charged and you plug in the PSU...does the machine start or does it still turn black?
-
stock drivers not stock clocks
-
What did you overclock them to?
-
Hello all! So...I went ahead with the Vertex 3 SSD install today using the HP recovery DVDs purchased with my system. After the recovery failed twice, I contacted HP Tech support...evidently, the recovery DVDs do not support recovery to SSDs as the "cluster formats" differ. Does this make sense to you guys? They told me I would need to buy a retail version of Win7Pro to continue without error. What do you guys recommend? I don't think it is right for HP to tell me to shell out another $200 for a retail Win7Pro...
Many thanks! -
Try my guide...there is instructions on how to get the master boot record overwritten and repaired.
Did your install fail after using the recovery discs? Did it not allow you to install the data?

Go to the Intel website and download the drivers for the 6200N. The older version seems to work better with this card and certain routers...
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Det...7, 64-bit*&DownloadType=Software Applications
You want version 13.5 -
Thanks, Bobmitch! You've certainly been a pillar to this forum! Is your guide still applicable even if I don't have a RAID setup? My system shipped from HP with only the 750GB 5400 RPM HDD. I am trying to replace that HDD with the Vertex 3 SSD.
The recovery took all three recovery DVDs and the utilities/drivers DVD, but after about 5 hours of the "Software Installation" screen, I got a "Detect some error during PININST_BBV" error and said the recovery failed. I tried twice
.
Thanks! -
I have checked my machine with the same issue. I noticed this first whilst playing Black Ops. I thought that I sorted out this issue but it looks like it still persists.
MY score is around P17xx. I am using the lower end CPU. -
HI
you can download it directly by Microsoft without to spend $200 for a new retail Version on Win7Pro.
You have on the Backside on your notebook the Key Sticker, with this you can Register your Version new.
it is sooo simple
-
Or you can back up your current certificate and reuse it after you install the OS. This means you don't have to activate anything online.
The next tip isn't as legal. All keys from HP are the same but different when it comes to the edition of windows. The certificate never changes. -
but you have this Key Sticker from MS.
so why dont use this one ?? -
Nicoooooooooooole Notebook Enthusiast
No it use to work fine whenever I plugged it in when starting up. I think my laptop has a virus. I could have sworn that the Envy came with free Norton. Do you still think its the power supply? -
Nicoooooooooooole Notebook Enthusiast
Thanks but how do you know that my Envy driver is 6200N? Not tryna insult your intelligence. Just curious. -
Cause all Envys have the same Wifi card. And if it's freezing issues you wanna fix, that's the wrong driver.
This is the correct one: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?lang=eng&changeLang=true&DwnldId=18212
Believe me, I spent 8 hours trying everything to get it to work. -
Atlas1...
Very good. -
The machines come with Microsoft Security Essentials. If you feel that it is a virus..I would suggest that you install something like Kaspersky, Norton of the like and see if that is true. OR...have you tried a system recovery? Did you make recovery disks when you received the machine? If you still have a recovery partition, try that by hitting F11 on bootup.
Please note that you will lose all data on your drive by doing the recovery. Does your machine run slow? -
If you have a second generation Envy 17 / Envy 17 3D...HP ships them all with the same wireless chip. The Intel 6200N...
-
Just heard from my Customer Relations guy. The four year AT HOME warranty DOES mean AT HOME. First HP tries to fix the issue with the user over the phone. If that issue cannot be resolved over the phone or through remote connection...a tech is dispatched to where you are to repair. He wants to set up a tech to come to the house and replace my keyboard, not sure that it is necessary at this time...but at least I have my guy to cover my back in case I get another "uninformed" tech
-
What is so odd about this is that Physx is part of the Nvidia driver. Many people hack the Nvidia drivers to run with ATI. Not sure I would do that, but when you have an Nvidia card, you are given the choice of rendering Physx with either your GPU or CPU. Here...seems that Physx is totally CPU. Try re-installing your video drivers from the SWSETUP folder or download from HP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times...and my benchmarks are pretty consistent. Also try another benchmark tool and see what you get. Try Heaven 2.5
