Will try to reinstall it now, how do I check if it's defaulted to power dvd? I might have defaulted something to WMP before, may that be it?

Edit, which is the install file for power dvd in the SWSETUP?

Well if you're profiting from it, I'm not gonna feel sorry for you, hehe.
I paid $1800 for mine, and I'd be happy if I got $1600+ when selling it, less than that I feel is a bit much losses for the limited use I've had of this computer.

Go into Control panel...double click the Auto Play applet...you will see what the defaults are. Make sure everything pertaining to video is PowerDVD 10 and see what happens. WMP was already installed...sounds like you installed it again...then when you did...it probaby had a screen that asked if you wanted all file extensions set to WMP...that may have done something

Don't know if I took the right file to install but seems like I can't install it, just saying it detects like power2go and some other that it wants to delete and then I get some error thing coming up and nothing more happens :S

Okay I started a system recovery the one where you go back in time not the full recovery, and it's been going on for a while now it's standing at the point where it says recover the register I can't translate it but can or should it take this long? Im getting worried that it's stuck but the light next to the power light is flashing so I guess it's working with something but still, and there's no way to cancel it so I don't know just feels like it's been taking to long.

Edit.. Omg I always worry to much and I always manage to make a post and embarrass myself haha ^^ it's done now just a few seconds after my post... Damn it :p

Nothing have helped with power dvd, is it just a trial that comes with it? Cos I found a file called activate in the folder and says I have 0 days left, and the power dvd program itself won't even open anymore, any ideas?

    Crimsoned,

All these comPlaints are making me second guess my order. What are you going to buy next?

Was it the envy or lack of support?

    Lack of support by far.

I am unsure at this point. I was considering an M6600 but I am half dwindling into making another custom desktop + adding a bit more and getting an ultra portable.

Basically any normal SSD should work fine. One person bought an SSD with crypto onboard and it didn't work but nobody really knows why. Most people here are using a OCZ (Vertex 2/3), Intel (X25M), or Crucial (C3/4) SSD.

Update on my power dvd 10 problem, I'm back in time where the problem occurred with the files wouldn't play BUT, I can't even start the program anymore, when I try to open it nothing happens at all, is it just a trial version that comes with the laptop? Cos I found a file called activation in the folder and it said 0 days left, I'm confused.

It is just a custom "light" version released to OEM's like HP, Dell and the like. Something is very corrupt in your PowerDVD 10. Your earlier reference sounded like you got the install directory for the Power2Go suite...did you find the C:\SWSETUP\PDVD3D

Perhaps uninstall it and try to reinstall again...

BTW...there is a product update from Cyberlink available called HP-CNB.HP_RiTA10_2808_DVD110414-02_Normal.exe
You might want to do a search with Google and see if you can get to install. It is 130 mb

Actually the only want to access it is through running PowerDVD.

Ok, guys, also bad news from me. Random freezes and reboots. Hardware not changed - no new HDD yet. Did not install more than 5 programs (skype, browser etc.) and the newest ATI driver from the HP website.
Now my Envy ramdomly freezes or just reboots without any warning or any hint why. Did anybody experience and solve such a problem?

This problem was largley associated with the 6200 wifi card not playing ball with the router/ap.

Try changing the drivers to 13.0.0.17 I believe.

What made you choose to keep it?

In another post, you said support was your biggest issue....so is the full carepack even worth it?

(I'm still waiting on a call from a case manager so I can start the procees of swapping computers....great.... )

I can only speak for myself...full 4 year at home carepak...YES it is worth it. My machine was "almost" perfect when delivered. Slight uneven surface on the keyboard...was workable...but drove me crazy. Called and set up an at home replacement for new keyboard...took three days with keyboard delivery and tech to show up...not too bad...now my machine is perfect!! I figure that I have four year warranty now and the machine is also covered for accidental damage...figure that if you have ONE repair done...probably covers the cost.

Stay on the case manager...keep calling until you get it done! The Envy is totally worth it...

Yeah....I'm leaning towards getting the 3 year full care pack with the 2070NR (since it comes with a 1 year warrenty). I've had my work laptop break because it started to fall, and I caught it by grabbing onto the screen....which of course broke the screen (a shadow of my thumb was left on the screen, and everything below the "shadow" was white). That was $600 to repair (luckily the office also has some kind of protection plan).

I'm really curious to see if I can combine an EPP, a dealigg coupon, a quick ship model, and an $500 off coupon from a different computer altogether. I kinda doubt it...but we will see.

So last night I took some time off for myslef and did some 3D gaming. Wow, THAT IS a whole new experience. Not sure if I was fully satisfied though. The 3D effect is definately there, but I still got some double images (I took off the glasses and the souble images seemed to be created by the glasses :p ). Guess it is not 100% there yet, but still worth the fun. I was playing GTA San Andreas which supposedly is fully supported by TriDef. I had to manually add it though, TriDif would not find it by itself.
Only real issue I had. It really brought my Envy to a crawl. I still had everything on the highest setting and I think in 3D it is just a bit too much.
Did not have a 2nd monitor attached, so I could not check if there was a CPU based throtteling or it was just too much for the GPU to handle (can't play windowed since I am playing through steam). I definately felt a slow down and low frames when I was driving through town at fast pace.
Not sure if I want to try throttlestop (at least not if I don't have the 2ns screen to monitor my temps), it was getting really hot under my palm already. 3D must be stressing the GPU a lot more. Just from feeling it (and my apologies that I don't have a more scientific measure right now), it felt hotter after 10 minutes of game play than it felt after 5 hours game play in 2D (same game).
Crimsoned, good to hear that you will be sticking around. You did way too much testing to nor benefit from it yourself.

Can you or anyone who actually owns the Envy 17 3D tell me the dimensions of the Original BOX that the Envy shipped in?

I'm on campus right now but I'm trying to determine shipping costs thru FedEx but I need the dimensions and the weight.

As to weight. I believe its about 14.7 to 15 lbs. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Hopefully someone with the original box will chime in.

I found the folder and started the setup but I get a error saying something about a dll and something about VarCheck.Checkversion4, you know anything about that? Is it a missing dll so it might be easy to fix?

3D gaming slows it down for me too. You've gotta drop the resolution or graphics settings in order for it to be playable because it's gotta push out twice as many frames as before. i.e. to be playable at 30fps in 3D, it has to actually display 60fps (30 for each eye).

Just want to make sure that you're referring to the black/red Envy box itself correct?
