3hrs of surfing over Wi-Fi with 60 percent brightness would still be okay.and 2hrs of movie time.I can try to live with that.

My 5hr dream has been shattered...Sad.Very disappointed by HP's misleading sales.

added a Rep for both sd_hvan and Jstr_MSFT.

To everyone concerned with battery life,

i'm pretty sure it's a driver issue, since hd4000 is actually built into the processor itself. I expect a fix will arrive soon enough

I definitely agree to that. Its waste but only for the 33% coupon offered.I might keep it if it matches my least requirement.

Coz I game,I have a collection of 3D movies,so I need kinda both, which I already had in my current 1st gen Core i7 laptop which still runs everything like butter after 2yrs and the core temps never go up above 78 degree C.Only needed a decent battery life.My current friends shuts off after about 90 mins of wifi on 60% brightness and Power Saver profile.
HP's misleading sales mentioned 5.25 hrs and since the previous gen Envy also had it,I was hoping I would get at least 4 hrs of surfing. That would settle my needs.Thats not gonna happen so yes I m disappointed for sure and like a lot of you I feel cheated by HP unless they fix the issue and hence I opened the thread here hoping people will push for it enough so that HP takes notice and releases a Fix. :(

Weird... I popped open the cover today and it's definitely a Momentus XT in there. Guess this is another something we've got to look into. -_-

Side note on the graphics, even though we've found out that it's always on the 7850M, i've yet to hear the graphics or processor fan become audible. I'm currently installing FSX (Microsoft Flight Simulator X) which is more processor intensive than GPU, so i'll edit when i test it out with both stock scenery and planes then with payware planes and scenery.

EDIT: It's awesome, i get over 110fps, with graphics maxed out. Now to install some payware.

it is misleading and that is how HP runs their business...
    your options:
-21 days return policy no questions asked.
-sue them for wrong advertising and wasting you time while you waste more of your time

The way I see it the 120Hz screen is not connected to the intel 4000 so it is as if you only have the AMD graphics.

Battery life is hard to fight..tons of footnotes

I ordered a non 3D version already and the 3D is going back.
ENVY 3D is not a laptop anymore with 2 hours battery life at the time of manufacturing, and we all know how fast battery life is gone, a year from now you can not be on the battery for more than 30min.

As a general rule GPU's on HP's are soldered to the motherboard. CPU's are socketed. Thus any version HP will have a different MB for 3-D vs Non 3-D if you were
    interested in why.

With the keyboard on lowest setting, screen at 30-40% brightness and refresh to 60HZ, I'm getting 4 hours just surfing and chatting on messengers. Watching videos my battery says I should get 3+ or so.

Thanks again RogueTitan7.All Envy 17 3D owners should push for a fix from HP.

This is really stupid on HP's part.HP should take notice and fix it as soon as possible without making us buy new ones.

Not HD 4000 good but for a powerful dedicated graphics card which can play most games at high.Thts not bad either.Probably the hybrid technology built in the Radeon HD.

I'm thinking that it might be a licensing issue that's preventing the Intel programs from working.
I might br wrong on this issue, but, if all it takes for the licences to be paid to Intel by HP, then, an update to activate it is all that's needed.
Time to start hacking and do a crack.
I will post on Demonoid if I find a solution.

Kopes..It does..Normally all power saving profile underclocks the CPU and GPU...Select the Power Saving Profile and try to Play a game..You will know..everything would be choppy..

Update ...the quick Ship version of the Envy 17 3D still says its has switchable graphics..Is it True..? Can anyone who has ordered the Quick ship version verify this ?

Why would they have the Switchable Graphics on the quick ship version and not the CTO version ?

Now HP is pissing me off and I am sure others too.
Is the HP management retarded or what..?

    Yeah I said that.

i wouldn't get too excited since its most likely an error.

ivy bridge envy 17 3D does not support switchable graphics at this time (and probably never will).

Does the WIDI function actually work unless HP do something soon its seriously going to stuff up their sales of the envy line. I was hoping to get one of these newer model but they just look like lemons now ill be staying away from HP now for sure

WIDI works on non 3D models. To be fair this is a forum and the majority of people who post are looking for solutions. There have been many favorable reviews here. I for one am still waiting on a delayed shipment so I'm not elated but I've been delayed with other manufactures before. Still no excuse as they are building a canned piece of equipment.

yeah the lack of Intel HD 4000 takes away the WiDi and i m pretty disappointed since I already have a receiver. :(

My order summary mentions 5.25 hrs of battery life and without the Switchable graphics I dont see they getting anywhere near with everything turned down with ower saving and on idle.

Also it mentions that the Wireless card supporting Wireless Display...but without the HD 4000 its of no use I guess.

Its kind of like you go to buy car and you select the best Car and they tell you it comes without wheels or u go to a restaurant to get the best cuisines and they just give you the raw materials and ask you to go home and cook it yourself...

    HP seriously..?

Ok, so i have the 3D. I got literally just under 4 hours on battery. Granted that was not touching the computer at all. No browsing, music etc. Just let it switch off the screen after 2mins and stopped it from going to sleep in the settings... I'd really like to know how HP does their timed battery run-down tests.

Are you not reading the forum or my signature? Thus far 3D owners can't switch to Intel graphics so that means no WiDi. Cool sense didn't need to be off my processor downclocked to 1.2Ghz and parked 3 of the 4 cores running at 46degrees. I know how to squeeze life out of a single charge thank you very much.

    HP's power saver
Yes, everything was off. I don't use the proximity sensor, nor Bluetooth, or wireless audio. So those i disabled when i first got the computer.
