speaking with one of HP's Blogger's that has relations with the Envy team i managed to find out that the Envy 14 will Theoretically be able to run 3 displays as the Envy 17 demonstrates using a third party USB to VGA/HDMI/DVI adapter. this in fact means that all USB and display ports could be used simultaneously as Eyefinity supports 6 displays on these GPU's. HP's Barry Ferris himself that this should work. other laptop owners have already tried this with current laptops and it has worked as found on a google search.
The Envy 14 seems to show a lot of potential already... cant wait to get it!

I asked about battery life under integrated and ATI gfx with stock battery. Hopefully he responds! ^^ -

nice one that is something of a big deal as the Macbook pro's get a decent amount of hours and this is a premium product

From everything I am hearing the envy 14 sounds like the perfect notebook for me. I hope it lives up to the hype as I can't wait to get a new notebook. At this point I've even somewhat stomached the etched floral pattern.
-
-
i wish they didnt put all them lines and stuff on the casing and left it like just blank on the mbp.
-
Same, however I still feel that this is the nitpickiest of nitpicks. There's just too much awesomeness about this system to complain. -
I, for one, like the floral art on the cover. Also, it's not like it's pink and fluffy and has teddy bears and cotton candy and cute baby seal pics around.
I feel i may neve be able to get one, though, as they won't release it here in Portugal.
I can find the envy 15 on ebay that'd cost around 700€ + shipping (+ taxes when it arrives, of course), but I'm not sure how safe it is to order a laptop from overseas.
Is there any company that ships internationally besides ebay sellers? It might be the only way for me to get my hands on one :\
Does anyone got tips on this matter?
Thanks -
We have similar issues in the UK. I really wanted an i5 gen 2 envy 15 but they have never surfaced ove here!
Buyng from ebay isnt an issue and you can get a reasonable price but the biggest ssue in my eyes is the lack of international warranty. If you have any problems you will have to send the laptop back to the states. Also as far as I can tell HP has quite a lemon rate so there is a good chance you will need the warranty -
Any word on the speakers/audio? Everything seems great about the Envy, just haven't heard anything about the speakers (which is important to me).
-
-
They'll have all the US customizations available from the HP website and they will ship it to you through FEDEX -
they're an authorised reseller so it'll come with a fresh warranty and you can ask them if there's a way to reduce import tax. I'm planning on getting my envy that way and so far the customer service is awesome - I think there's only one rep as far as I can tell but most of my e-mails were answered within an hour or thirty minutes. -
Also, with the normal warranty plan could I just send it to HP here in Portugal and they'd take care of it?
If so, that could be an option to consider.
Thanks
Edit: Just saw this on the site. I guess it confirms the international warranty ?
Edit2: Just noticed this part "In general, HP provides warranty coverage for any model they sell in its respective market". They don't sell the Envy series in here, and that worries me about the international warranty... -
The etching is actually very nice looking. Once you see it in person you'll grow accustomed to them. The only aesthetic feature I disliked was the color. I think I would have liked a nice silver or black color over brown/bronze.
-
-
So June 27th, right?
Anyone know the date it'll be available at BestBuy? -
-
-
the etching is not nearly as evident as that picture suggests, imo.
-
It's somewhere in the middle depending on light but under strong light it is very evident like the first picture ( and this) and under more subdued/dim light it looks like the second ( but still pronounced). The flowery design was the first thing my GF said when I opened it. I don't think most YouTube videos accurately display how obvious it is; most look just like an aluminum backing or charcoal grey but it is definitely not. For example, HP promo picture 2; these are deceiving, it does not look like that in any lighting condition.
I would have preferred the traditional 13" Envy approach but if there's a suitable skin that should be a non-issue. Anyway, just throwing that out there because I did my research before purchasing the Envy 15 and thought the design was more in line with the MBP/Envy 13; it is not. -
-
-
that's too bad. I am hoping the design is not as bad as it seems. I have not seen a HP envy in person so i do not know how obvious the floral design is. the best buy near my house did not have it on display (or did i simply not see it? i will have to go back and check).
-
if the design on the lid is anything like the Envy 15 then it will be hardly noticeable at all.
-
It's really noticeable sometimes, other times not at all. If anything, it isn't girly, it's just stylish.
It's a beautiful machine: sleek and professional. I wouldn't let a floral pattern deter anyone from purchasing an Envy -
Forget "s ex in the city" models and go Hello kitty instead.

can not wait for 25% bing cash back with this laptop.

Where's the Bing CB for Canada???? Gah! (Please don't respond with: "get a US bank account/credit card", most of us can't get that)

I think it's pretty safe to assume BB will carry it though. -
Beats is Dr. Dre's / Lady Gaga's headphones by Monster. Nice headphones, but not the best and definitely over priced.

-
I love it but it really want an alternative to the floral pattern; i like the point etching...just not the floral arrangement...it is bothering me and a lot of others! Please HP!
-
iNoob I bet it will since HP is going through a whole new transition on laptops. I just don't know when

Hey Folks,
I just thought I should share calculations with you about the battery life. So, I took the Acer TimelineX 4820T, which has almost the same hardware as our beloved Envy 14. In a test they measured it, and figured out, that in minimal usage (minimal brightness, no radio, no Radeon, only a text file being constantly scrolled) the platform used 9 Watts, which means with the Envy 14's 59 Whr battery we can expect around 6.5 hours of only reading. Of course this is not accurate, because HP could improve power management and use another type of screen. But see, the problem is that the i5-430m has a TDP of 35 Watts, which is a LOT. Tests showed, that the i5-530UM (which has a TDP of 18 Watts) is almost exactly as fast the 430m, but obviously using half the energy (which boosts the battery life when you work using the CPU).
But I have some good news too: with some more brightness and HD (720p) video playback (using the integrated Intel GPU) they measured 12 Watts, which means almost 5 hours of continuous video-playback on the Envy 14.
However the worst imaginable happens when you use both the Radeon and the CPU the total energy consumed is 54 Watts which could have horrible results in heat and battery life (a little bit more than 1 hour with the standard battery).
So I strongly suggest to change the CPU inside immediately to an UM (Ultra-Mobile) version, because the performance difference is not more than 5-10 % but the battery life could improve by 30-40 % (not mentioning the heat).
Of course this is pure speculation,
I can't wait either to get my Envy 14

The most important thing about it is definitely the way in which the pattern hides smudging... I didn't even consider that as an added benefit until I watched the Envy 14 video. -

sorry but the TDP you quoted is the maximum, meaning 35 watts is the max the i5 will be pulling. unless u are rendering something 24/7, don't expect a continuous 35 watt pull -
And the 35 watts includes the GPU, and the other few chips and stuff. So basically, it comes out to be similar to the 25 watt P-series C2Ds.
-
WOW, you guys have obviously not read my whole post...I know exactly, that the TDP given is the maximum. But guess what, sometimes I like to use the CPU fully, and then it uses 35 watts.
Of course if I don't do anything, than the whole platform will only use 9-10 watts (as I stated above).
Yes, the Intel GPU is there, but it is exactly the same in the UM versions too...just the UM versions have a TDP of 18 watts, which means even if I use the CPU heavily I could have circa 2 hours of battery life (instead of 1.09). -
OK its a bit heavier to carry around, but you won't loose your warranty this way. -
One question: Will this have USB 3.0?
-
-
It's possible that the Envy 14 may go the Envy 15 route, in that you can only get USB 3.0 if you go with the i7 processor. -
