I just sent HP a message on their site specifying the Envy 14 page and its misleading or mistaken information given compared to the product definition PDF document. Hopefully they will look over it and correct it maybe giving a bit more info on the laptop.

Even in the Envy 14 gallery on the Envy site there is a Envy 17 pic that blends in amongst them all. Seriously, dont rush a site dedicated to an awesome line of products.

sorry i did make mean to say your post was inaccurate. i was just surprised you included such extremes for battery life: from 1.09 hours (heavy usage) to 6.5 hours (no usage at all). in reality, a person with normal usage (like wifi on, web browsing) will get ~4 hrs using stock battery.

If they included the HD display, discrete graphics, and USB 3.0 for the $999 price I'll be buying 2 of those suckers. Its like a better version of the Asus N82 I was waiting for. :D

The only thing I think that the Envy 15 lacks is the switchable graphics. It is perfect besides this in my opinion. I'm loving mine with the i5-520. Better gaming performance than the envy 14, lighter and thinner too. Though if I didn't have a laptop right now, I'd get an Envy 14 almost for sure because of switchable graphics + backlit keyboard (though maybe not because I really like my 5830; I don't think a 5650 would be enough to satisfy me :-/).

At the 1600x900, the 5650 will be close to as fast as the 5830 at 1920x1080. Not quite, but close.

What passes for "a lot" in your books? Because it doesn't bother me one bit, there are few/no complaints about it in the owner's threads, and every single person I've met who's seen it thinks it looks great. Really... a lot? Maybe just a few guys who think that something other than a skull and crossbones is girly.

How do ATI switchable graphics work? Is there a simple one-click software interface, or do you have to go into device manager or something?

Not if you overclock the memory, that will give nice performance boosts.

Aside from that, we need some sort of red flag auto posted anytime 3d mark 06 scores are posted. Vantage is the better modern metric and score number, separates the men from the boys, which is what the 330 is.

Does anyone know how far the screen tilts back? The 110 degrees of the Envy 15 is definitely not enough.

i wanted the envy 14 too but factoring in price of warranty with the laptop, the dm4's price is too appealing.

IMO the unibody aluminum, E2E 1600x900 display, Backlit keyboard... it just comes together very well. It has the refined feel of a MBP, without all of the nonsense that comes with apple products. $.02

I really like th envy 14, but I was going to buy the Asus ul30vt in February, then I heard the UL30JT would come out in a couple of weeks so I thought I would wait, now after waiting so long IMO the reviews of that machine was not so great, so I decided on the more powerful U30JC I was about to buy then it was out of stock, so now I came across the dm4 which I like, and now I am seeing the envy 14 as well.
LOL at my current rate ill buy a laptop next year if I keep waiting, but I really want that envy 14, I just dont know if I should wait any longer as I have been waiting so long already.

My situation almost exactly, except I was looking at the UL30VT in April. The Acer 3820TG looks pretty good but I dunno if it's ever going to hit the US and I really like the idea of a 1600x900 screen.

Just to see how much it would cost, I configured an I5-540M/HD 5450 and with bing cash back it comes to under $800 us. :) That's a nice price. GPU is just a bit too weak for me. If the 3820TG comes out soon  I will probably still get it, although I have no real desire to give Acer a dime of my money for the way they have ignored the US market. If not, the Envy 14 or the Sony Z are my other options. Glad to see HP releasing its products on time. Can't wait to see reviews of the HP Envy 17.

I also really hope the Envy 14 will have the 5830. The Envy 17 and DV6t came out today, the DV6 is not that much different from the Envy 14 spec wise, so I really hope they do "something special" to their premium line..

Something special apart from the fact that it will come in a smaller size and a 14.5 inch brighter higher resolution screen and a longer battery life(not too sure abt that)??

I would say their premium line is quite special already :)

I believe he is referring to the Envy line, not the envy 14 alone. Also, a blu-ray option on the envy 14 is not possible either, as i believe there are no slot loading 9.5mm blu ray drives in existence yet.

Very doubtful. They won't use the same GPU as the Envy 15.

There is no current slot load BD 9.5mm drive but that doesn't mean there won't be one in the future (or so we can hope).

Yay, the Envy 17 has the 5850 as base, which probably means that the Envy 14 will indeed have the 5650 base. Pretty sweet. I'll take any BCB I can get I guess. Too bad it doesn't stack with HP academic discount or I could probably get a kickass Envy 14 for $800ish.

hey guys after messaging HP about the Envy website and in particular the info on the 14 where it was saying obvious false inform such as it having a triple reflex woofer. well they have changed that now along with my other comment i gave them saying about people being confused to whether the 14 has a USB 3.0 port and now they have also editted that part too... so it doesnt look like it will have USB for anyone who wanted it.

Is there any possible way that HP could deny a return (within the return window) or is their policy guaranteed? (of course provided the product is in original condition, w/packaging and all parts, etc.)

As long as the laptop/peripherals are not damaged and you have included everything that was in the box or submitted any MIR's, they should not deny a return. I'm presuming that you called in and requested a RMA before the return window expires.

It'll eventually hit 25% again. It's hit that mark twice in the last month or so.

There also been the 300-450 off coupons that came out as well.

It all depends on need vs saving money I guess. I'm personally a cheap so I'm going for the big discounts.

Yeah same, I don't *need* a laptop until August so I'll just wait for the huge coupons or BCB and hopefully get an SSD with the savings if the discounts offset the price of an SSD (minimum 120GB though).

Are there websites/RSS feeds that track these things?

there's a reason why it hit 25%: to get rid of old inventory

i agree with bronsky; once envy 14 is released and their new product refreshes are "finalized", they will drop it down to a modest 10% which is still better than nothing :)
