A 128GB SSD alone costs anywhere from $250 to $400, so I wouldn't consider it a "little" upgrade. That's doing it yourself, so I don't know what HP will charge.
Personally I think I'll either put my OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD in it and then put the hard drive that came with it into an external case, or maybe even pick up a hybrid drive.
-
ouch, ssd's are expensive.
-
Lol this guy was completely useless. -
You guys are nuts! Can't you wait a few weeks? You'll have more info asking some random bum off the streets than from a support rep.
Me, I'm keeping my pants on until it's I get to see some reviews. -
For sure. From the day people receive their E14s, I'll be scouring this forum for more information. It'll be weeks if not months before the likes of CNet, Laptop Mag, and Engadget even decide to write their own reviews.
If I decide to buy it on or after launch date, I'll personally test it extensively before the 21-day return period ends. I'd say we should make a list of things to check before we keep or buy. Some things to check should include gaming and idle temperatures, build construction/structural rigidity, dead pixels, and the display's viewing angle/image quality. I'm personally aiming for the i5 version, but I'm still wary of any potential heating issues -
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
Big question on the Bing Cashback - does anybody know whether we'll actually get 25% off? The disclaimer says "qualified products" - is there any way of determining what products are qualified?
-
anyone going to replace the slotload w/ an hdd caddy like me?
-
Gaming and idle temperatures
Build construction/structural rigidity
dead pixels
display's viewing angle/image quality/text quality
battery life
throttling
camera quality (HP has a history of camera fualts...
)
touchpad, with and with out synaptics scribe drivers
prescence of bloatware (For the love of christ let HP run clean Windows 7...)
-----------------------------
Thats all I got at the moment
-
in 37 minutes itl be...
18 days~ -
I'll keep this list. Obviously, some people are going to prioritize some areas over another. I myself don't really care that much about battery life. If needed, I'll order a battery slice.
-
Maybe I missed this, but why is the 14in coming out a month later than the E17? Hopefully HP will surpise me with a different exterior design option (I wish lol).
-
You need to wipe some of that gulf oil off that Turtle and get it moving again ...
Bronsky
-
I didn't use to care much about battery life until I got my M11x. Then when I realized I could use my laptop all day without worrying about plugging in or able to play games for 2-3 hours without plugging in, it was a nice feature.
-
In one of the interview videos, didn't the dude mention an i5 and the discrete graphics will be in the base price for the Envy 17 also? He was correct, base specs are i5-430M, along with the HD 5850. Why are you guys so worried about the i5 NOT being base for the Envy 14? If the dude said so, we should go with the flow. Do you guys not believe it because of the price? $999? I may also slightly doubt it because the price is ridiculously low, but I guess waiting will give us the answer. This doesn't give you the permission to kill me if it is not an i5 for base.
By the way, first post here. Go easy on me.
-
I can clean stuff off, but it just comes back. Good news is BP is now siphoning 15,000 barrels/day, so the 18 day wait should end before we know it!
-
lol, yea I get the feeling all the people that are doubting the base price and specs stated by the HP rep are gonna be all "I told you so" if it turns out differently.
-
Same here. My first netbook purchase a few years back opened up the possibility of grabbing my laptop and going wherever I wanted and have a laptop ready for the better part of a day.
-
Isn't the M11x going to be refreshed with the new ULV iCores? Do you think it's going to have less battery life the the C2D?
EDIT: OH HEY. MY BAD IT'S OUT.
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/alienware-m11x?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn
EDIT: 500 GB HDD is a $150 upgrade.. Core i7-640UM is ALSO a $150 upgrade. Base specs:
i5-520UM (3M Cache, 1.066 GHz, Turbo = 1.866 GHz
2 GB DDR3 RAM
160 GB HDD 7200 RPM (256 GB SSD offered for $570. Whoa.)
335M!
Price? $949 -
I ordered an Envy 17, but this thread is getting me tempted to get the 14 as well for portable use... damn you HP Envy series!
-
anyone know the size of cache with the envy 14?
-
It's because the HP website lists the Envy 14 as coming with i3, i5 and i7 processors.
-
It also stated that the Envy 17 was to have an i3. It doesn't.
HP Envy 14 and 17 notebook: Big Changes for Less - The Next Bench -
OOOOOOOH dissed! lol had to
-
The actual website, not a blog post doesn't have the mistake for the 17.
High Performance Laptops w/ Free Audio Software | HP Envy Features
Its also more plausible for the 14 to have an i3 option. Hopefully not though.
The guy in the video also said that it starts with the radiance screen. This is not true according to the datasheet. -
I thought the specs on the datasheet were mentioned incorrect, or at least I think so after reading over 150 pages of this thread.
EDIT: I see i3 on the HP website, but not the datasheet. This is probably the quick-shop model. -
I hope that the i3 is just offered as a downgrade option for. The radiance screen would be nice if it were to come standard.
-
im calling i5 with a radiance display in the base 999 version. i just got my next laptop, so im out of the wishing well. i think hp is smart enough to make a competitive laptop in these hard times.
-
I was wondering if anyone knew about what the basic HP envy 14 package will be ram, video card and hard drive space wise and such. For the base $999.
-
Just wait liek the rest of us. No worries man.
-
i just want an i5, 5650, and a nice res screen for $1,100. Think the envy14 will deliver that?
-
The specs may be similar to the Envy 17.
-i5-4xx (hopefully not i3)
-4 GB RAM (doubt it, maybe 2)
-1 GB ATI Mobility Radeon Hd 5650 (yes I am surely positive that this will be base GPU, don't kill me if it ain't)
-500 GB HDD 7200 RPM (again i doubt it, maybe 320)
Those specs for $999 is a steal. I guess it's reasonable for the Envy 17 because it's 400 more bucks..
BUT THINK POSITIVE!
-
Hope so. If it doesnt, then 3820TG or GX it up!
-
anyone know if the hp envy 14 screen tilt is limited like the hp envy 15?
-
priorities then.
- gaming potential (high-mid quality).
- battery life.
- screen quality, especially outdoors.
- comfort (heat and noise).
- build quality.
- weight.
Else, there'll be plenty of options that will compromise one thing or another. -
I don't think the Envy is their "hard times" laptop. That's what the G42/62's and DV series is for. Certainly it seems to be priced more aggressively than the previous gen Envy's but it's not a product line they are going to compromise on. I'm hoping for a i5 and 1600x900 in the base model as well but if I have to pay more for those features I wouldn't be surprised and to me it's worth it to do so.
They're going to be competitive, for sure, but they're not going to be hemorrhaging away profits either. Worst comes to worst, the i5 and 1600x900 setup costs ~$1200. I mean you could have an Envy 14 for that price or you could get yourself a Macbook Pro for that price. I mean it's really a no brainer when you're talking about capability. And you know there are always some ridiculous $300 - $450 coupons around the corner. -
Those $300-450 off coupons are usually for orders priced $1,200 or higher, which would actually greatly increase the chances of being able to get the i5/5650/1600x900 setup.
That aside, Apple deserves some credit with their unibody Macbook Pros for allowing us to benefit nicely from the competition. HP is kept on their feet fighting for our dollars. I'm sure that even the economy is going to factor into the pricing. -
I hope those are close to the specs for that price that would be awesome a high res bright screen addition would be nice.
-
I hope the base price is not a 1600* display because it would be pointless on such a tiny screen. It would just waste graphic power (+60% pixels to calculate compared to a 1366*) and thus more battery drain...
On the other hand if ONLY the 1600* display is radiance type, I may go for it, but hell I don't want a 1600* on such a tiny unit. The 5650 + 1366* is a great combo for mobile gaming performances (check the damn 3820TG), I don't want to sacrifice that so I can see 60% less pixels when my nose is touching the damn screen (which is never).
Unless you're a photoshop user or some kind of a +100$ to +200$ upgrade to 1600 is a total self rip off if the 1366* screen is as much radiance as the 1600* is. Also at 1600* on 14" I hope you've got lynx vision because desktop, icons and fonts (this one is solvable) and everything will be damn tiny. -
Here is a presentation page at HP Australia which I haven't seen before:
HP ENVY Notebook PCs
There is also a brochure which has specs for all Envy models including Envy 14:
http://h20424.www2.hp.com/campaign/consumer_notebooks/ap/en/resources/HP-ENVY-brochure.pdf
They don't mention the i3 or the 1366x768 display as an option in these specs. But that could mean nothing, because these are specs for Australia/Asia. -
nice find XD im enjoying some fresh content rather than the same old sh*t
-
Well seems theres no 1366* option, slice is optional and worth probably 150$ (price of the envy 13 slice), gamers are ed
but yet it's still an impressive value for a 999$ start.
Did someone understand the graphic part where they state twice 5650 and quad core only ? ? -
that document got my hopes up again... looks like the 14 is gonna be selling like hotcakes
-
I think that's saying you get switchable graphics with the dual core options, whereas quad core will only use the 5650.
-
well yer thats right as stated before the Intel quad cores dont have integrated Intel HD Graphics, so only a dual core configuration could switch between discreet graphics and intel graphics.
-
I just phoned with HP Germany.. They quote the 05. July as the date they expect the first charge of the HP Envy 14-1010eg Notebook-PC (WN945EA) Model to arrive in their stock. So delivery in the second week of July.
With the coupon code HPDE5PTHX1 it seems to be a price of € 1.234,05 (1474 US$)..
The guy said the first charge will be reserved for early buyers and they only expect a few models at first.
The only problem I have is I will leave in August and then turning the thing back in case its not what I expect, will be difficult... -
Arnt i5 quad cores anyway ??
-
nope they are dual cores.... with 4 threads... usually each core would only have 1 thread.... but the i5's have 2 threads per core... this in a way can be interpreted as two physical core and two virtual cores.
still it will basically be able to carry out 4 tasks simultaneously.
the i7's technically have 8 cores (4 physical and 4 virtual) as they have also 2 threads per core. -
Based on what I have read in the Envy 17 Owners thread, it seems HP is taking 3-4 weeks to get these out to people. I hope they have premade models ready to go june 27th to ship out right away, thats my only hope of getting this laptop.
-
Personally, I don't care if it takes a while, as long as I get my laptop with 25% BCB.
-
Well then it confirms what I said about golden teeth and rappers.
