I just need to keep tweaking my Droid and maybe I can keep my mind off this... I've flashed a new ROM on it basically every other day for the past week and a half!

Student discount is ten percent. If BCB is anything above 10%, then go with the BCB.

Bing Cash Back. The Student discount is relatively small, and mostly negates tax if you buy in an area that charges it.

Quick little tip. I just downloaded and installed Scrybe on my Asus G50VT and am pleased to say that two-finger scrolling works just as well as it does on a Macbook Pro minus the inertial scrolling. It's not as inconsistent as it was on the Envy 13. Looks like Synaptics is really having its people work overtime!

My question: Is there a way to enable two/three finger right-click or inertial scrolling?

So is this the same trackpad as the Envy series uses? I'm guessing it's just a driver update that's been done, or something?

That's wonderful to hear that the two finger scrolling is working well. That's the primary multi-touch feature I think many will use.

So if it's the same on the Envy 14, then that's one thing HP was correct about.

Nope, different trackpad, but same software. Learned about it from here.

I am 90% positive that if it works on my clunky G50VT, it'll work on an Envy's touchpad which was designed for multitouch gestures. I'd say give it a shot. According to one website, 70% of all notebooks on Earth utilize Synaptics software. I'm positive they all use similar if not identical hardware.

My confidence in my potential Envy 14 purchase shot up somewhat. All that's left is learning how to configure 2/3-finger right-click and inertial/momentum scrolling. 3/4-finger gestures are optional and would also be nice.

i'll probably end up buying this, but i really wish they hadn't discontinued the Envy 13. That one was really perfect for me weight wise, even though it didnt have a backlit keyboard (at a starting price of $1349, a non-backlit keyboard is inexcusable). Hopefully they'll do what Dell did with the Adamo and slash the price to $999 for the C2D 2.13Ghz version six months from now. Then again, given that it's HP, they probably want you to buy a ty DM3z instead.

It really is a dereliction of envy buying duty, every owner ought to pull out the hd cam, and film a 10+ minute review.

This is correct, but it's not a knock on the reps, they are just not given in depth information on unreleased products. Even some of the so called product devs have misspoken about product details before.

The reserve number does nothing, by the way. they have no information, and all they do is take down your name and number so they can call you on launch day and sell you one.
In fact, when I called, they didn't even know they were taking preorders, I had to be put on hold while the rep went and asked a manager.

So, I haven't seen real concrete evidence. And I'm new to mobile processors and Intel as a whole. Do the quadcore I7's not support switchable graphics?

I don't want the release day to come around, have 25% BCB and not want to buy the laptop because I'm not sure.

I would really like the power of the I7, but not if it comes with 4 hours taken off the battery life or whatever.

Also, on a side note, I'm really wondering if that new synaptics clickpad is going to make it on the 14 for release. There are pictures of the envy keyboard with the new clickpad, but no one bothers to say anything about whether or not we'll be seeing it.

Anyway asking for an i7 on an envy 14 is like wanting to buy golden teeth. You'll look richer, faster, stronger, but in the end it will just be damn ugly battery and heat wise.

very simaliar specs if upgrade doesn't cost that much, might switch the HD for one of those hybrids mentioned in here.

Also, I'm going to wait a month or two for reviews plus a nice discount.
I don't trust what everyone is saying in here or the HP rep or the HP data sheets.
