O, well that makes sense I was unaware of that, and thought you typed up a post decided just to erase the whole thing and post that anyways. Which doesn't make any sense so my apologizes.

    Blu-ray ROM eh?
    Amazon.com: HP ENVY 17-1011NR 17.3-Inch Laptop: Computer & Accessories
I was blown away by the price. But I don't understand one thing there. It says the item is "This item has not yet been released." So you must pre-order it. How weird.

I'm not seeing any great deals on Amazon...I haven't looked at the E17, but their deals for the E15 are a ripoff.

Too bad there isn't a HP Envy 14 owner's lounge yet. Time is gonna go wayyyy to slow for me since I have absolutely nothing to do over the summer.

Is there even an option to preorder the envy 14 in the USA? If so, is it wise to do so? Will many stores be sold out on release day?

Or is it better overall to wait for deals/coupons before purchasing?

I'm waiting for a deal or coupon. Hoping for the 25% HP Bing Cashback. But if Best Buy does another 20% off may be worth that too to get my Reward Zone certificates too.

There isn't exactly going to be a "Release Day" like you are referring to. I doubt it will even be in any physical stores until the middle of July/ early August.
It will be available to order online on the 27th.

If I just created a Bing Shopping account yesterday and qualify for a 10% HP Bing Cashback discount, will that percentage change or is it set at 10% till the end of July?

Yes BCB fluctuates. HP is typically 10% but it frequently jumps to 15% and occasionally (like every 4-6 weeks) to 25% for a few days. As much as I'd like to order the day it's released, I'm waiting at least until end of July to see if BCB for HP will be a 25% before BCB program ends.

I know this is just speculation, not that there isn't any of that happening here post to post :p , but does anyone expect the GPU to change to something more powerful after the first few months? Like possibly a 5850 or something crazy like that? I'm all for the Envy 14 the more I read about it (granted again its all specs on paper and speculation). But it would also be nice to have a little bit better GPU performance. I mean the Envy 15 isn't much bigger and it has the 5830, granted no ODD.

yeah im considering either the envy 14 or the rumored envy 15 refresh for college, and the envy 14 base comes with the 5650 so im hoping that maybe there might be an option to upgrade at launch to a 57xx or 5830 etc...

if not i might just wait for the envy 15 refresh.

In the future, they'll probably make something bigger in a smaller package. But hey, I'm no expert. I predict that they WILL attempt to fit a stronger GPU in the machine, probably in a refresh, although its either highly doubtable or we just have to wait a long time.. again.

I thought the Envy 14 was replacing the Envy 13 and Envy 15? Or maybe not? Just seems silly to have a 13.3, 14.5, 15.6, and 17.3". The Envy 14 seems perfect balance for battery life and performance and size.

theres a thread on this forum speculating the existence of a 15 envy refresh, but its just speculation so im hoping the envy will have gfx upgrade options at launch.

i dont think there will be a 15 envy refresh because i dont see the point of having both a 14.5 inch screen laptop And a 15.4 inch laptop, unless they couldnt fit a more powerful gpu in the 14 envy.

The Envy 15 to me seems just like most other laptops, nothing special. It may be a bit thinner than others, but it lacks an ODD which is usually expected in a 15" notebook. At least you could use that ODD for a second HDD or SSD.

There is a big market for both a E14 and E15. A lot of people may find the E14 too small, myself included. They should keep the lineup at 14, 15, and 17.

So...14 days left. That's 2 weeks. I guess I should make it my goal to finish 2-3 books I have with me as a goal by that time, that way I have plenty of time to tinker with the Envy when it arrives.

OK, We are coming up on 200 pages. That's a lot of crap to read through full of mostly baseless assumptions. We need to start a second thread and put the actual information in the first post, so It's easier to follow.

We can make a separate thread once people start receiving their E14s. Call it the "*OFFICIAL: HP Envy 14 Owners Lounge!*"

Anyhow, I'm worried about the creaky chassis issue that's being discussed in the E17 owner's thread.

would you consider yourself a heavy typer, because even if the 14 is anything like the 17 (in terms of the flexy keyboard) you would need to be applying some force and pressure to the keyboard as the guy in the 17 flex vid does

I went to Fry's today. Went to originally to buy this new LG LED monitor, but ended up shopping in the laptops aisles as well. The ENVY 13 was there, and my, is it sexy. Also they had a few of the other HP models too, which were pretty nice. They seem to have skimped out on the lid's quality tho. It's so flimsy, pliable, and press-able. Not that impressive. The ENVY's tho, was solid. I also saw this neat machine by Acer, even though it's pricey and huge. Just impressed that they gave the US a good CPU: FRYS.com | Acer .

Boy, I can't wait for the ENVY to release.

HP has really crappy quality nowadays, but my 2007 hp dv2610us is still running strong, and I'd say its quality is superb for a $650 laptop from Fry's. Not so sure about HP's year 2010 laptops though.

I'm a bit torn between waiting for the Envy 14, or buying a Dm4 (which has a massive coupon deal right now, can save like 250 bucks).

Does HP usually have good deals on new products?

Well i've read the envy 17 workmanship problems, a millimeter off there and there is not a big deal for a full body aluminium laptop of this size, as for the envy 14 that costs this low frankly for the same price you'll get 10 time more flex and creak on any other laptop.
And this is not an issue on all envy 17 anyway. Not to mention it is probably the heat that slowly bends by a few degrees the metal shapes over time (one of the great i7QM benefits). Nothing that tighter screwing or RMA wouldn't fix anyways.

Coming from a first generation Dv5, I noticed these things on the first day: small cosmetic issues, hot palm rests, a tiny scratch on the corner of the display, and very high pitched whistling. Even if the Envy 14 has all these problems again, I wouldn't mind, because they didn't bother me. The Envy 14 hits the sweet spot with what I want in a laptop. Of course, simply not having these problems would be awesome.

Most of those issues are fixed with bios updates, it happens to nearly every first batch of any laptop...
I even remember fujitsu fixing with a bios update (10 months after release) a vent noise issue on amilo xi 3650 (fan making claclaclac at high speeds) so yeah... bios updates...

Edit: envy 17 sound issues is just microphone larsen... from people who don't mute their microphone rofl...

I love when things like that happen. :)

On a different note, I bought my girlfriend as a present on our two year anniversary a dm4 in order to replace her aging desktop. After getting to handle the dm4 for a little while I would say I would be suitably impressed if the envy was the same or better quality as a the dm4. Especially with that awesome screen.

if you think that HP has crappy quality then you haven't tried Alienware... I speak because I briefly owned 11" AW. Lots of build quality issues like huge gaps in the body, rattling hinges, warped keys; sub par quality display in addition to unpolished firmware.
