Now that the coupons for the Envy 17 are coming out, only about 20+ days after it came out I'm really contemplating whether or not I want to jump on the 14, or wait it out a little bit for a good coupon.
I have EPP, which is 10% and if BCB is doing 25% then I'll definitely jump on it, too bad they don't mix.
After reading all this I followed the link to notice that the figure was wrong, a the discount was only $50.
-
How did you get this price? I want to order in Germany on monday. Did you call the sales time and asked for any special price?
Ah, just read that only the 5% discount voucher works!
Can I use 2 vouchers when ordering? I have this 5% discount voucher and another 25 EUR voucher for ordering their newsletter. Can I use both? -
No, its not possible to stack coupons... So only the 1230€ offer works.. Bummer..
-
65Watt adapter? Official specs says 90 watts. May have to that one wrong.
-
:-(
I was wondering too! I guess the websites proposes the wrong adapter. Will this adapter work? HP Store für Privatkunden Artikel - HP 90 W Smart Pin Dongle AC-Adapter (KG298AA)
Because the price is very good and I would order it with the notebook on monday to save shipping costs. -
As long as it's under 100W (the max usable on most trains/planes plugs) it's good.
-
My apologies for the redundant question as I've been off of this thread for almost a week.
-
If the envy fails, theres still the YouTube - HP G62: Unboxing
HP G62 that costs... 600$ lol -
awww just trying its best to be an Envy .... wannabe
-
Good signs. Goes to show HP really IS fighting for our wallets! -
Exactly. I was literally drooling over the specs when the German site showed it at 1,299 Euros before the usual kickass coupons!
-
Was it really 20 days? I guess we better test the waters then. I'll wait until July if necessary, but I really hope it doesn't turn out that $999 was the introductory discounted price, which could just lead to HP raising the price after 20 days.
-
hmmm...
the envy 17 on amazon priced $1650 costs $2275 configured on hp.com
factor in hypothetical 25% bing, and it still costs $1706.25 + tax on $2275
so basically amazon.com blows away hp.com prices even with bing
perhaps i'll wait to see the envy 14 pop up on amazon and purchase it there.
plus you get amazon's great 30 day hassle-free return/exchange policy! -
And if you have prime you could probably get it only a few weeks after it's available on the HP site.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
Oh amazon. What won't you put up on your website for cheap.
-
Im going to order one tomorrow what was the German coupon id. Also anyone got any idea how warm these will get, as i hate a warm laptop.
-
I'm also a bit worried about the heat.
The 15 was wayyyy hot.
The 17 reviews also state that it gets rather hot.
I'm not going to give in untill I see real reviews, I'm skeptical, esspecially on battery life. -
I have Amazon Prime so I'd definitely be open to buying from there if it is cheaper than HP itself w/cashback. The only issue I have is worrying about the prefab version without one of the "Really Bloody Important (tm)" addons I'd choose, such as the 820QM processor, best video card, high res screen, etc.. or anything else it would be difficult to upgrade myself (Or items like the Slice Battery which are cheaper to buy from HP when you buy the unit, compared to later. Also, 1 4gb RAM chip instead of 2 2gb sticks. ) It seems the HP "QuickShip" models aren't really tricked out for the most part.
Edit: I am pleasingly surprised by what the Amazon Envy17 PreOrder seems to come with, though. The only thing it looks I'd change is the 820QM instead of the 720QM, and Slice Battery availability. The Slice may be cheap on Amazon by itself though.. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
what's the slice battery?
-
for me the only thing missing from amazon's config is the blu-ray rom
-
Slice battery or not with a 820QM ... thats a leap from 45mins to 1h30 of battery under Wlan surfing (numbers from the envy15 with 720qm).
The slice is kind of useless (remember it weights around 800g) if you're going for an i7 you're gonna be a plug hunter anyway. -
1366x768 screen, maybe. i3, I haven't heard of any mention of the i3 in any Envy 14 setup. It'll come with an i5.
-
What trips me out about this is the other video with the guy with the beard talking about how much they "supposedly listened" to customers and what they wanted in a laptop but they just can't seem to take care of the ABC's in customer complaints. I mean come on keyboard flex? HP gimmie a break.
-
Keyboard flex was never a problem with the original Envy series as far as I know.
The only major flex I saw in that video is on the numpad. For me, slight flex doesn't mean anything... Maybe it's a problem for others, I guess. -
As long as the keyboard doesn't flex under normal pressure from typing, I don't see the problem.
-
Agreed. On first glance, it seems problematic. But as another person noted, this was a worthy compromise considering how the new keyboard plate serves to prevent damage from spills. -
No worries, sometimes you might have to hunt back 20 pages. Just luck of the draw.
-
Apology accepted... In the worst case I can always quote myself again..
I really am thinking about what I really want.. I have a 1440x900 screen right now and before I used to have a 15.4" WSXGA+ 1680x1050 Screen.
I really like high resolutions and 900 px vertical resolution is the lowest I want to go.
I do have perfect vision, so I have no problem whatsoever with high dpi screens..
Why cant they offer a Full HD Screen? I would pay up to 200€ Premium... -
Envy 14 doesnt have a numpad anyway.
-
That's terrible flex. They really did crap out on the quality indeed. My dv2610us doesnt even come close to that kind of flex! Is it cuz of a the new-school chicklet keyboards?
-
I'd like to note what the uploader of that video posted in response to someone's comment:
Again, I don't think the flex will bother me, assuming the Envy 14 has flex like the Envy 17 does. It wouldn't stop me from buying the laptop if all of the other positives about it are true. -
HP will always be HP. People saw those initial videos and flipped out with anticipation and excitement. The hype on the new Envy models skyrocketed and reality has been slow to set in.
Of course some people still think the i5/5650/1600x900 will be the base $999 model... -
I really don't think the Envy 14 will launch without a 5650. No Envy so far has launched without a discrete GPU in it. You can't even configure them to not have a discrete GPU, as far as I know.
Not only that, the only place that lists the Core i3 as being an option for the Envy 14 is that one page on HP's website. Everywhere else has stated that the Core i5 will be in the base model. None of the online retailers in other countries have listed there being a Core i3 in their models, as far as I know.
However, I'm assuming the 1600x900 screen will indeed be an upgrade. A 1366x768 screen seems likely in the base model. -
Haha, that someone was mehhhh!!!
-
Theres still the dv6t SE, though, as an alternative, if you dont mind the slightly bigger size.
-
Oops, nevermind this post...
-
, dude. Why did you post that?
-
I edited my original post. I misunderstood someone else's post above me.
NotebookReview doesn't seem to have an option to delete your posts, so I wasn't able to.
Is it really necessary to call me on this anyways?
-
I expect everything but the higher res screen to be base.
take a look at this
Acer Aspire 5740-6025 15.6'' Notebook, Intel Core i5 430M (2.26 GHz), 4GB DDR3, 500 GB HDD, DVD-Writer, Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Windows 7 Home Premium - LX.PM902.072 - Buy.com
granted, acer is one of the companies that does not give a damn about margin, they are cut throat with their pricing to appeal to the bottom feeders of the market, on the opposite end is apple, all about margin. And then there is hp, somewhere in the middle.
at 999.99, even with an i5 and the 5650, there is room for more margin than the lowest of the low bottom feeding prices out there.
The screen is something most people going for this would love to have I would think. And that add on should net a nice increase of margin as well. -
seriously dude. he needs to be banned.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah.
I was originally gonna go for that until I saw the envy14.
...now I'm waiting to see the cost of the envy, among other things. -
I'd be considering it if it weren't locked into 1366x768
-
From the looks of your choices you can bet the Acer will have keyboard flex. You can bet the Asus to have keyboard flex, chassis flex, a crappy dimpled touchpad, stiff mouse bar, and glossy plastic that attracts all kinds of finger prints. At least the HP will come backlit standard.
Me, I'll take the HP and it's superior screen despite a few other flaws. -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah. that gave me pause otherwise I would have already ordered one. -
Now officially reaching the 2-week point.
-
hey jay-jay, hp uk reply to your email?
-
hey man. nope they didnt and i sent it again yesterday. Im getting the confirmation email saying i sent them an email. They are just to lazy i guess to answer me. It says 24hrs they will get in touch. Maybe they mean 24 months!
-

-
Tried that two weeks ago. Still waiting for response...
