That just means that you can't use a gift card to buy something else and expect BCB to kick in. It doesn't say anything about using BCB to buy a gift card, with the intention of buying another product later without BCB.

Yeah, we're talking about buying gift cards and USING the academic discount once we buy the laptop.

So even if Bing says you can't use discounts or coupons along with the gift card with a discount, just wait till you get your BCB money and then buy the laptop using other discounts.

Well, there's no way bing would know what we use our gift cards for anyways. What if I gave my gift card to someone else like what it was meant to do and they used a coupon?

Don't be silly, tax doesnt apply to gift cards.

Well discussion I've seen here is whether gift cards are eligible for BCB. If you use gift cards I don't see how that would matter for any discounts. It's just another form of currency.

No doubt. There goes a big chunk of the savings right there. Tax on a 1,000 bux isn't exactly a drop in the bucket.

    Okay okay. Gotcha.

So I'm speculating that the previous pages have been about buying $1500 worth of GC with 25% BCB then sitting on it and hoping for one final 25% BCB again to buy the notebook.

I just want to know if I can buy HP Gift Cards with BCB. Then I'll be set. I don't care if it's a single one for $1500 that I have to have mailed to me. I can wait a week or two.

Why do you say that? If you're concerned about performance, check the Alienware M11x threads. The CPU's are ULV versions of i5 and i7 and GPU is GT 335m, which is weaker than the HD 5650. I owned the Core 2 Duo version of the M11x and was very gaming capable.

You'll be no worse off than if you used cash. Well, HP wouldn't probably give you the BCB if you use your gift card, but I am going to use the gift card and receive education discount to be safe.

Right. So, worse comes to absolute worse, we will only get the 10% academic discount. I will then have much correspondence with Bing and HP, and hopefully get the discount on the card too..

really doubt BCB work with gift card. Because then I can buy another gift card using the gift card that I just purchased with BCB and get another 25% off.

Ex. Buy $1000 gift card with BCB. Get $250 in BCB account. Then use the $1000 gift card to buy another $1000 gift card. Get another $250 in BCB account (total of $500). Do it 2 more times, you get $1000 in BCB and you still have the $1000 gift card.

My conclusion is, either you can't use BCB to buy gift card or you can't buy stuff with gift card and still get BCB, or both...

EDIT: On second thought, can you buy gift card using gift card? If so, people should be able to abuse the 10% student discount. Or does the 10% student discount work on gift card? Never buy gift card before, so not very sure.

LOL. Nah, I'm probably going to close this thread and direct y'all to the Envy 14 Owner's thread. http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-owners-lounge-forum/493715-official-hp-envy-14-owners-lounge.html

I'm seriously hoping that the Envy 14 doesn't have the heat or quality control issues many of the Envy 17 owners are facing.

So let me do the math here.

    Envy 14 - $1000
    Screen Upgrade - $100
    i5 520m - $100
    160gb SSD - $325

Total: $1525 (Plus the slice battery)

Then I use a 25% BCB to buy a $1450 gift card and so will get $362.50 back. Then I'll use the academic discount for 10% bringing the price of the laptop to $1372.50 and then use the gift card to pay for it.

So in a sense I'll only be paying around $1000 plus the price of the slice battery for all these upgrades!

Yes. But I'll happily take $375 over $150 any day. :)

Nothing about being too good to be true. 25% off a laptop seems too good to be true, but its not. This doesn't do anything except allow me (us) to get 25% off the Envy 14 when it's released if they don't have the 25% off promotion going. They say some are some aren't but aren't clear if it is!

I think if one of us can get an "OK" then we need to bombard them with that email to show them they need to honor the gift card 25% off.

However, another place with " Microsoft Service Agreement" (search Cashback - it's #28) it states:

It just isn't looking well. Although it does seem some sites do allow bing cashback for gift cards, so I don't know. I think it's probably unless the store specifically says they are allowed they are not.
