Don't cancel right away. Just call HP CSR, explain the situation and say, "Tell you what, I'll save you the cost of returning/refunding and liquidating my custom made order into a refurb by keeping it if you give me the difference of 15% BCB which is $____."
-
c'mon turtle...don't give up on us now!!! Sucks I'm not even gonna be home so I won't be able to stay up for the release lol
-
so all you people counting the seconds til the apparent release...will you actually buy it as soon as it shows up?
-
Debating on that. Some want to buy right away and (may correctly) perceive that a BCB deal will arrive during the assembly process. A bit of a gamble.
Anyone recall whether there was a coupon or BCB deal available for the Envy 17 at or around launch date? If I can expect a BCB deal two weeks from now, I might as well buy right when it's available! -
I'm willing to order right away, but I'm waiting for 20%+ BCB or a nice $250 off coupon.
-
you realice BCB is being closed down in a month, right?
-
Go turtle go!
-
Yes, and some of us are contemplating waiting for another promotion.
I might wait about two weeks. -
I'll have to set a timeline of two weeks from launch date and see whether I luck out.
-
i'll be happy with $100 off, this'll be my baby for the next....12ish months
-
Will the bing cashback apply to only ppl residing in the US or is it available
for ppl from overseas if I were to order Envy 14 ?
Whats safer ? Ordering directly from HP US , Amazon , or Ebay ? -
only expect to have it for a year? man ive had this dell craptop for over 4 years and i expect this one to last at least the rest of college
-
only US
i tried using it before, i have a US address, but even then they refused to pay me -
Yeah I'm expecting this to last all 4 years of my college. So it better be good!
-
i've had my vaio for about a year and a half now....battery is shot, screen has a defect, hdd is giving me hiccups (it was aftermarket, the stock one was dying on me too)....
i could easily push a few more years out of it, but i want something new and shiny....that has a working battery.
-
Yeah, same, which is why I'm getting so antsy about quality and price and everythign and aughhh
4 year commitment to a laptop, this better be good
-
vaio's dont seem to last long
and yeah i feel like i could push this dell laptop another year or so but id rather have a new, more college friendly laptop with a working battery as well. i get about 9 minutes on this thing
-
tell that to mine
-
I've had my Sony Vaio VGN CR123E for almost 3 years and I've had 0 problems and I treat it like absolute crap (I've thrown it, spilled beer on it multiple times, stepped on it - its my party laptop and I've used it every day for almost 3 years). The battery doesn't last very long anymore but any battery would lose life in 3 years.
-
lol 8 years thats impressive. certainly not all of them are crap but every single one my friends or siblings had didnt last long at all
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
I want at least 2 years outta my new laptop. prefer 3 though
-
Does anyone think their will be an option for WWAN? Because I am in a position in which I can save 400 dollars on a laptop if it has a WWAN module.
-
I did a sketch in Google SketchUp with the sizes of a few laptops for me, to see how big this Envy 14 is, I think it gives a nice idea about the size.
Here it is, for anyone wondering about its size:

Obs: I just put the Vostro one because my dad has one. -
in fairness, this thing still runs fine enough. my HP and Compaq's that preceeded it were total garbage and fell apart.
the envy lines seems to have good build quality though.
i feel dirty possibly going back to HP though, i swore them off a few years ago after a bad run in with their terrible terrible customer service dept. -
I found a lot of conflicting information about this:
Does anyone know for sure whether the dual-core i7 620m will be offered for the ENVY 14, or just the quad-core i7 720qm? I'd be kinda bummed if they only offered the quad-core version, since the dm4 offers the 620m. But on the other hand, the ENVY 17 only offers the quad-core versions.
If no one knows for sure, I suppose we'll find out in about 10 hours or so...
*Fingers crossed* -
If question isn't answered, I'd say wait another 11 hours and see. -
8 hours to go
-
I remember in some of the videos I've watched that the HP Envy should come with WWAN options.
-
Rather than just vegetate all day and track the time to the hour, I'm going to go off and find something to do. Probably hang out at the bookstore with a cup of hot tea, check out all the chicks, and read the Economist. I may even drop by BestBuy for a few minutes to take a look at the Toshiba R700 if it's available as it is in other stores.
Laters. I'll be back in time for the countdown. Turtle is making his way to destination. ETA: 10hrs 28 minutes
-
It's 1:35 here in Cali. 10.5hours to go!
-
I am 100% sure that there is a 85% chance the 620M will not be offered.
In fact, I'm not just sure, I'm HIV positive. -
Nice. But try this nifty site for size comparisons:
Sized Up: Apple iPhone vs Pack Of Playing Cards -
your so witty and original
-
It would be funny if the whole HP site bogs down when all of us are trying to order the E14.

Ugh. The world cup has left me in despair.
Damn. This thing needs to be customizable stat (time to go do something else) -
What's everyone's config like?
-
Meh ^^ Im not that excited anyway I planned on waiting a good month for extended reviews before buying, Even with 21 days to return, I got no time to test every aspects of the laptop myself
I think I also became quite attuned with my ul80vt xD I already feel sad about the fact that my gf will start filling it up with bloatware and software the day once I'll pass it to her.
Config wise I'd be happy with a 1600*radiance 500gig hard drive (that i'll transform into an external one in order to fit a momentus XT in) 520m or 450m (not sure which one to get as there are no comparative benches yet) 4gigs of ram (i'll be running 32bits anyway) and slice battery. -
All German webshops (except hp.com) postponed the availability to mid-july. HP.com still tells me that they will ship on monday. The sales team on the phone some weeks ago told me it would be better to preorder on hp.com as the first batch will be limited in numbers and only be available on hp.com. Can this be true, then?
-
Seeing as how I'm not that tech-savvy, I'm down for the lemming config : 520M, 4gb ram, Radiance, base everything else.
This config should be able to handle the 3 things I'm gonna throw at it, which are CPU hungry: PCSX2, Dolphin, and SC2 on ultra.
EDIT: I might get the slice too. -
Anyone know if there's a benefit to go from 430 to the 520 CPU?
-
520M
4GB 1 DIMM ram
Radiance
Slice battery -
Radiance, 500gb HDD, 540M, and slice battery.
-
Slice battery? How heavy is that thing?
Whats the expected battery life with and without it? -
Experts in this thread, and the 3820TG thread, say that the 430M to the 520M is about a 10-20% diff, which may be "negligible."
-
nao usa! =D
So midnight expecting this envy 14? -
Going to see the prices during release first... but most likely will be:
i5-520M/540M
Radiance Screen
500GB HDD
4GB 1 DIMM RAM
Slice -
7+7 roughly
-
Notebookcheck: Mobile Processors - Benchmarklist
There you can compare cpus.
Take a look at the cinebench multicore rendering bench, it is the most accurate one to compare everyday usage.
The 430m best bench value is 6591 while the 520m best value is 6925. Thats a mere 5% difference for the max bench values. Mean bench values diff is of about 6%... On monocore benches there's a difference of about 10% (i520m having a higher turbo clock).
Unless you are using new AES coded applications, theres no noticable difference between the two processors in every day use, and even less in gaming. -
i5-520
Radiance
500gb Momentus XT HDD off newegg -
Now is the 430 better in battery than the 520 then?
