the 520m can be embedded (soldered), but it isn't unless you've got some special laptop or something

Yeap but I already got a fine 14" laptop backpack. I just want some kind of sleeve for whenever I want to slip that envy in another bag. It's just that a little handle on a sleeve is really useful even if I won't use it often.

The i5-520 is listed on Intel's site as having support for embedded use - i.e. soldered in. Some of the E14 buyers are assuming that means that it will be soldered into the E14, apparently not realizing that it would make no sense for HP to offer one embedded solution and several regular socket-based solutions.

To all of the people afraid of the embedded specification on the i5-520 - just because it can be embedded doesn't mean it will be.

 

I was a bit hesitant on the design of the lid and interior but I recently saw the Envy 15 at the Microsoft Store that just opened here a couple days ago (in San Diego, CA) and it's better looking in person IMO.

I'd probably go base specs + i5-520M + Radiance Infinity display (1600x900), but I'm going to wait for some discounts if there aren't any at launch time.

I dunno - I'll bet anything that voids the warranty would void the return period. So if you upgrade the HDD or RAM, you should be fine (though you won't want to return it with your upgrade installed anyway), but if you upgrade the CPU or modify the case so that it's got an LED dragon on the back of the LCD panel, you're probably SOL.

 

Gonna go to bed in a few minutes. Hopefully this is out when I wake up. I am not even getting one and I am excited for the release.

tbh i kinda hope it doesn't appear right away on the cdn site cause then i can justify not buying it until a review comes out >.>

i tried getting some info out of a sales rep on their site today but she didnt budge. but she did say we would receive an email notification.

but my guess is that it will be between 12-3am eastern

 

the dm4t didn't show up on the site until after 1am pst. i went to bed after 1, woke up at 7 and it was there. hopefully bing comes back soon.

 

Is there any reason the Envy 13's upgrade to 160GB SSD is 200.00 while the 17's is 325.00 and is from a much better HDD?

Trying to get a ballpark on the SSD upgrade price because I'm buying my E14 at midnight and want to have all my specs picked ASAP. The Momentus XT is interesting but I have 1TB of Music and Movies so the difference between 160 and 500 is whatever since I have externals.

Anyone have any other SSD recommendations?

 

It could have to do with improving overall customer impressions of the E13 - Make the SSD cheaper, more people will have it in their configs. It will speed up their boot and load times and increase their battery life, making the E13 perform better in general. Better performance means better review, more recommendations, and more sales.

Then again, that's just a guess. I'm hoping the SSD upgrade is only $200 on the E14 - I'll be in on that upgrade if that's the case.
