Wow. It's fully configurable...but the options and pricing is so BAD. Gonna sleep and wait till someone makes corrections to the typos ($200 batteries, i3-370 as base?, non-999 price, etc). OR, order from Amazon or pick this thing up at BB.
-
Darn, insurance for 3 years is like 400 bucks.
-
Get Squaretrade. Much cheaper.
-
The $1099 base price is probably not a typo, it's likely HP just lied about it or "decided to change it at the last minute."
We knew for a long time there was a possibility of an i3 in the base model. Though it's just a $25 upgrade to the i5-430M, so who cares. The slice thing does appear to be a typo. -
Is it just as good? as direct
-
So. Who else is excited to move over to the owners lounge thread wooo
-
I think they tried to truly set ENVY 14 apart from DM4T / DM6T etc by offering Radiance screen as a base option, but that also jacked up price by $100. Since I was going to get it regardless so it doesn't bother me.
-
The standard radiance screen compromises for the processor upgrade, though I'm still disappointed in the $1,099 starting price.
But folks, there's a silver lining to this cloud. At $999 , this would've been hard to discount. But at $1,099, we should expect to see a coupon or discount coming up soon. I'm personally going to wait for one to come up. If HP decides to be stingy, I'm going to go elsewhere. -
you mean cloud
-
with 6gb with the *2, does that eat up more wattage or just help speed up the comp.
-
Is there a big difference in performance between the 450 and 520?
-
Fixed. It's 1:26am in the morning.
-
its 4:27 here and I still caught it
-
Just ordered mine....
I5-520, 4gb (1 dimm), 160gb ssd, Slice
Having dealt with HP RMAs before, i'm not too worried about it. If it's crap, it's going back. 21 days is generous, and they've been easy to work with in the past.
I plan on doing a full unboxing, and review as soon as it arrives.
-
Which is better for battery life? 4gb RAM 2sticks or 4gb 1 stick?
@Zeth, You're totally right about the Radiance as standard, cuz we all wouldve upgraded to it anyways, and willing to pay the 100$+ for it.
All in all, I'm just kinda disappointed with the i3 thing. Just having that as an available option makes the ENVY seem just less "Premium," than it's siblings, and many other notebooks on the market.
And the $200 slice battery kinda kills it. But...520M being available makes it easier for me which i5 to decide on, since there's no 540M LOL.
I'm waiting on discounts/coupons guys. Lemme know whatcha think. -
One or two DIMMs shouldn't have any impact on battery life. I'd assume one stick would use less, but then again, since the memory modules are twice as dense on a 4GB stick compared to a 2GB stick, who knows, it might use more power. Either way, it's going to make little to no difference.
Thought you guys are right, I'd pay $1099 for an Envy 14 with the 1600x900 screen, rather than $999 for an Envy 14 with a 1366x768 screen.
I don't care about the i3 in the base model, as it's just $25 to upgrade to a Core i5.
I agree the slice battery being $200 is ridiculous. It's just a 6-cell battery in a different package. -
How much do you think I could get for reselling a 15 month subscription for Norton Internet Security? Yeah, I know you can get it for free elsewhere but that's usually AFTER a rebate. They're only charging a buck for it.
-
what brand ssd does the Envy 14 use? anyone know?
-
I think HP couldn't stomach putting > $1,100 MSRP for Envy 14 with radiance screen, so thats why I'm guessing they put i3 370M instead of i5 430M as the default processor.
-
Only intel makes 160GB SSDs (resold under a couple other names, but same internals). What I'd like to know is what the 256GB SSD is.. if anyone gets one please open it up and let us know what it is!
-
Again, who cares, it's only a $25 jump to a Core i5, which is always worth it, in a laptop like this.
At first I thought I couldn't stomach the jump to a bigger hard drive, but now that I'm going to be replacing the internal HDD with an SSD that I already own, I may as well pump the hard drive up to a 500GB one. Then I can put it in an external enclosure. I have a 1TB drive in an external enclosure, but it is a 3.5" hard drive, and I want this to be portable. I'll use my 1TB drive to do regular backups on, and then just shut if off when I'm done. -
Just ordered:
450M, 4GB 1 DIMM, 160GB SSD
1497.61 after it all...over 125 in tax hurts (Monterey, CA)
Regardless once I receive it I'll give the forums my thoughts and impressions on it. -
Is the 160gb offered at a good price? What's it listed at? I don't know if I should grab it or wait a few months for the new batch of intel drives
-
I guess we'll have to start watching the Owner's thread for reviews.
-
its a $300 upgrade from the 320gb 7200rpm hdd...
-
I'm still unable to get back to the page. How are you guys getting there now? It went down for me a while ago on my HPA account.
-
Its a very good price, you'd pay north of $400 to buy it and put it in yourself, plus if you get an edu discount then the drive is ~$280 which is killer.
-
FYI Squaretrade warrenty for 3 years is 399, HP is the same 399 or you can get in home service for 409. Guess I'm going HP. Couple quick questions before I press buy.
Would it be cheaper to go with the 8gb ram now or get 1x4gb and upgrade myself?
Anyone know where I can pick up a momentous xt that's not on back order?
How are HP external monitors? I thought about buying one but though I might be better cheaper elsewhere.
Thanks
=Jason- -
So any chance of the slice battery being renamed to Slice Battery, and being cheaper?
-
Newegg says your about equivalent to buy the ram yourself or have it come with the laptop assuming its DDR3-1333.. if its 1066 it might be marginally cheaper to do newegg, but is it worth it at the end of the day? Also if you get edu discount its even better to do it with HP...
-
I can still log in and configure it!
Too bad no coupons are available. -
ExodusC, it disappeared for me when I first used Firefox - now I have internet explore up and it is running fine.
-
Hey guys its up in normal HP page..
-
For $1499 laptops, the Squaretrade warranty is $300. For $1500 laptops, the Squaretrade warranty is $399. I know how much I'd ensure my laptop for.
-
Try applying a SQ discount. They occasionally release 30% or even 40% off coupons
-
Yep, I see it!
-
I'm personally getting the warranty from HP. I'm going to swipe my AMEX card to tack on that extra 1-year warranty for a grand total of 4 years. I COULD get HP's 4-year warranty and get a grand total of 5. But after 3-4 years...I'll probably get new notebook fever.
-
SQ discount?
-
Look for coupons on the web. I believe SQ(SquareTrade, my acronym) allows you to apply a warranty within 30 days of the laptop's purchase. Who knows. We might have another 30-40% coupon pop up. There was one for Father's Day.
-
Guys,
Is it worth going for 6gb ram upgrade? I am planning to use multiple VMs. With core i5 520, 500 GB HD, 6GB and 1yr accidental warranty comes to 1596.
-
Ok guys I'm out for tonight... has been crazy ride with you all for the past hour
-
I'm gonna ditch the standard 320gb hdd for a momentus XT 500gb hdd
-
Good times. I'm going to bed too. Probably be hanging out at my Borders coffeeshop tomorrow reading news mags and following this thread and the owner's.
-
Oh man Envy 15 an 17 changed. There is no i5 option anymore. It is default at i7 Quad.
-
the i7 starts with the 1299 price too.
-
Whoa. If the i7 didn't run so hot, I'd say that's a steal.
-
It was +315 from the standard (-10% 31.50 for student discount).
Not an amazing deal but not a bad one. -
Closed thread since the notebook has been released.
