is the $100 upgrade to the i7-720QM from the 520m worth it? Will I lose a lot of battery life?
-
That and your 5650 won't be switchable, so yes it will drain your battery quicker.
-
windows 7 home premium 64bit

I'm pretty sure with quad core you lose the ability to have switchable graphics(thus worse battery life)
-
oh yeah forgot about the switchable graphics part.
-
I see it now, some of the upgrades are pretty pricey, but seeing as that the radiance 1600x900 is standard atm, I think it's ok.
-
So...back in a limbo?
-
Fat Dragon Just this guy, you know?
If you need the power, it's worth the price, but you'll lose a lot of battery life, and possibly burn your house down if the E14's cooling isn't tip top. -
GET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
-
HP EPP or academic account?
-
Yes, with all the i7 options on the Envy 14, you will lose switchable graphics. It's extremely ill-advised to go with the i7-Q processors in the 14. Just stick with the i5-520M if you need extra CPU performance. The i5-430M will be great for all but the heaviest of workloads.
-
~1200 for an envy 14 with 520m cpu and 1600x900 screen is pretty good if you ask me...
-
academic discount which is 10% off.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
yeah.
still can't believe the slice is $200 -
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
also I can't get an academic account to work.
I blame needing a third e-mail/not being able to convert an account/some other crap -
Heh, they just removed it.
I made a student account, so it was on there for a moment.
520m is a $175 upgrade.
500GB HDD was $40 for the student as well. -
Yeah, might as well pick up another 8 cell for $75 eh?
-
hmmz... you can always order the slice later. You might just be lucky to catch that 25% bcb before the end of next month.
-
Considering how we were anticipating it'd be $999 for an i5-430M and 1366x968, that's not half bad at all.
-
Slice @ 200 dollars to me = supplies extremely limited now, wait till later to buy unless you REALLY need it now.
-
I was signed in with academic account. I guess the non-academic account price would be $1299.99
-
Yeah, I was expecting to pay for a screen upgrade, but $200 for the slice means I will probably wait and buy that separately..the 15 slice is something like $125, I bet they will reduce the price.
-
MagusDraco Biiiiiiirrrrdmaaaaaaan
slice at $200 to me = "aww hell nah. Screw you"
-
anyone use coupon codes?
-
None out...yet.
-
Argh...so base CPU is i3 370M
+25 for i5 430M
+75 for i5 450M
which one would you guys go for? I thought I had made up my mind to get 450M but now I'm not sure... -
List some and I can try them
-
Ordered. 430 + slice.
-
I thought it was pulled from the website!
-
I'll wait for a coupon or 25% off BCB.
-
So, has anybody else noticed that in the 14 config, they list the slice as "One 6-Cell Extended-Life Lithium-Ion Polymer Battery (over-sized)", but the 15 lists it as "Envy Slim Fit Extended-Life Notebook Battery".. maybe they don't have everything updated *fingers crossed*
-
I still see it. Now goodnight. I'm tired.
-
ORDERED WOOHOO! total price with tax included came out to $1270. (upgrades = 520m, 4 gb ram (1 dimm) and $1 norton anti-virus)
-
I guess I jammed it into the cart before they pulled it.
-
The Envy 14's is a slice. The Envy 14 can't have an extended battery, if you've seen pictures of the bottom. It's a typo.
-
Ok, the page had disappeared for me when I was using Firefox - I logged back on using internet explorer and now I can see it again as well as order it.
-
450 -> 520 $100 upgrade... worth it?
-
Dammit. Can't seem to figure out how you guys can log in!
-
In my academic account it still works, I'm just sitting here debating between going from the 450M to the 520M, 160 SSD to 256 and 1 to 2 year accidental warranty...oh the choices...
The 450 seems like the best for the $$$ and it's newer than the 520 so it may end up being the one... -
2.93ghz is for single-core mode which the chip won't run in unless you practically force it to.
-
Yeah, I know. I mean, maybe they typo'd the price too
-
I noticed this, but I assumed it was just a mistake. I mean, an oversized 6 cell battery? Doesn't make sense to me, especially when the 8 cell is standard size.
-
log in to your account then search "HP envy 14". It should take you the envy 14 main page.
-
I'm INNNNNNN!
-
does hp use intel ssds, anyone know?
-
I know. As far as I know, turbo boost on the newer Core i5 and i7 processors works well. It should auto-turbo if you're doing a heavy single threaded workload.
-
How does one get the student discount?
-
Sweet, got my order through with 520m, 4GB 1 DIMM. Student discount.
-
Hey guys quick question
if I order 4GB with 1 DIMM, then it doesn't support dual channel right? So would it be slower than 4 GB with 2 x DIMM? (although this is obviously better if you are going to upgrade to 8 GB later) -
Slightly slower. Not even noticeable under normal workloads.
