It would appear the 13 inch has a better quality screen and that accounts for most of the cost difference.

With the Bing cashback, this does look like a pretty good deal, although I'm holding off a bit to see if HP fixes the customization prices. I'd like to downgrade to 4GB of RAM for now and depending on how much I save, get the smallest hard drive since I'm going to replace it with an SSD anyway.

Quick questions on the cashback. 1) do we know when the 25% off ends and 2) is the cashback amount calculated on pre-tax price or post? It's been so long since I used cashback, I forget.

lol yeah these customization options are throwing me off, I was also hoping they would give some more information about the laser etchings, I don't want to order the notebook and then see that it has a flower etched on it :/

    Cashback goes like this:

Order product by logging in via your cb (hotmail) username.

    Buy whatever.

Log in to your cb account and you'll see the transactions pending.

Be prepared to wait as it takes 90 days before you can claim your cb money. I am still waiting to claim my $33 from an SSD purchase :)

Serg - It has always worked for me anyway, but just be careful that you got to the HP site from bing, you were logged in to your windows live/xbox360 account that is signed up for cashback and saw the little golden coin icon on the webpage. It may take a month or more for them to deposit it to your account.

I just ordered mine and have $512 pending for bing cashback. We bought a bunch of christmas stuff last year when it was live cashback and we got it all fine. It does take several months, however.

I think it is, because I wanted to get XP compatibility mode that is only available to professional and ultimate users. I still have some old XP stuff that i want to run "natively"

    * I am your fath....*... woops sorry about that..hehe. It says build date is on 10/28... somehow I think it is going to be shipped on the 23rd. I guess we shall see! :D

That is what I thought.. good. Was hoping to get some good gaming at least, well, not at native of course. :D

Now, keep in mind that the 25% is ONLY for today.

Hey do you guys think it's worth skimping on the 9-cell and the external blu-ray and buying them elsewhere? I was going to try and get it from the HP store later on a deal maybe for the 9-cell (since right now you're basically paying the full $125 for it) and go for another manufacturer for an external blu-ray drive (I've seen some around $120)

    Here's a link for an example of a cheaper blu-ray drive: http://store.fastmac.com/product_info.php?cPath=10_2_52&products_id=406

This is lighter, smaller and better GPU, plus larger HDD

I'd go with the Envy just because the SXPS line is a little long in the tooth (for me, at least).

In reference to the 9 cell, dont forget that 9 cell is a splice battery, it comes standard with a 6. If you plan to go mobile, I think it is very important. In reference to the drive, I do not see why you could not use a third party blu ray drive.

Edit: Oh, about the blu ray drive, I would think they are matching the finish of the drive to the laptop, so if that does not bother you, I think you are good to go! :D

    Muuuhahahahahaha *cough, weeze* ;) :D

No estimated ship date. It just says that it is estimated to be built by Oct 28th. There is a disclaimer in there somewhere that says that assumes no parts shortages.

I think if you get in today, I think you are good for that date, I actually thought it would have been out a bit longer, unless they have a few of these already built, and that is why it is so much to change things. Just a thought

Sorry mate, but I've known that for quite some time, it's been present on that site + Notebookcheck.com since August if not even July. (No offense, just sorry I didn't tell that in this thread)

It does not say much about performance, but it can be a big factor considering the watt usage and heat from the laptop - which is probably the reason HP is using it.

Does anyone have data on the 2 screen types for the Envy 15? Aside from the higher/lower resolution, are there any differences in quality, glare type, color gamut? It looks like the 1920x1080 is better...

Personally I would have loved a 1600x900 in the 15", so that the graphics card "goes farther" but 1920x1080 isn't so bad I suppose. 1366x768 seems maybe a little low?

    In for one.

    From hp:
"Your customized Envy15t notebook is estimated to be built by October 28, 2009. Your chosen delivery method is Two Business Days and we will send you tracking information once your order ships."

From bing (bing.com search hp, click 25% sponsored link):
You earned $468.75 from your HP Home & Home Office Store purchase on 10/18/2009:
HP Home & Home Office Store
    Unit price: $1874.99
    Quantity: 1
    cashback: $468.75

I signed up for Bing last night using my gmail address. I believe 60 day wait is to make sure you don't return the item. Though bing mentioned a quick pay option through paypal, so that might make for a faster turn around. No big deal to me as I get credit card rewards 2-3% on the full amount (just another $50 tax in my case as 2 day shipping was free) and then the bing cashback.

Base config with optical drive. Don't think I will need additional batteries or blue ray. Net cost should be around 1450 for one nice laptop in my opinion. Maybe keep my head up for an accessories sale on/around black friday if i end up need more batteries.

920XM may not make these configs at all since it has 10w higher TDP and is $1000 :p

I called the sales reps and they have no clue about what I'm talking about when I say graphics card memory. I ask them what type of memory it has and they say ddr3. And I say for the video card? They respond for the 6GB ram by default. I say no, I want to know about the video card and they keep talking about the RAM. God damn, lol. I'm pretty sure when the other guy said the sales rep said ddr3, he was also referring to the RAM, not the vRAM.

It looks to me that the Envy 15 has GDDR3 according to their product brochure ( Here, click on the Envy 15 link and then download the full spec pdf). Of course it also lists the option of having a 160 gig ssd with a 500 gig 7200 rpm hdd, which is not currently available on their order page.

On a side note, I'm not sure about the cashback being only today, the HP twitter page said it starts today and is for a limited time, but never said it was only for one day.
