i think that is a mistake. but 1799 is the price it was quoted at from the begining so its not like it was misleading. yes it should be cheaper for less ram but it is as advertised. and as serg said earlier in this thread its cheaper to buy an ssd yourself and swap it out. but its your money.
my confirmation email only took a couple of minutes and im a first time user of bing cb.
-
i have read this entire thread. There is so much misinformation that i am trying to get a clear answer on. I hear a couple people mention that this deal is one day only. Can someone show me a quote or link to this information. I would rather wait and it also doesnt make a bit of sense in the world to have a one day sale on a sunday to promote preordering Windows 7 machines.
-
Mout1, I already got my Bing Cashback. Just got the email.
Yes, it's been posted numerous times. It's only today. This is taken from the bingcashback twitter. "Use #BingCashback with HP.com (TODAY ONLY) to get a 25% off;"
Also why doesn't it make sense? There's really no rule stated anywhere that they have to do it for multiple days. So far everywhere I've seen, it says the same thing, the 25% is only for today. -
hm - I guess I would have to cancel this order and get one more - just to be on a safe side..
-
That sucks. But who knows, maybe the email got lost, it happens. Have you tried signing into your bing cashback account to check if it's there? I did that too after the email just to double-check.
-
http://twitter.com/hpdirect link there.
-
According to their site, you have 21 days after it arrives to return a computer to them for a full refund, minus shipping cost (which should be free right now).
I'm thinking that if the Envy 15 ships on or about the 28th, there might still be enough time to return it if HP does have a 40% cashback deal for Black Friday this year.
Also, looking at the wording of the HP Twitter feed, the 25% is for a "limited time" and "starts" today, so I would assume it's not over today, though that is hardly a guarantee.
I myself am on the fence because I'm buying a MBP either way but wouldn't mind a dedicated Windows 7 machine, especially an i7 with a decent GPU. -
Wow I'd love to get one of these, but I'm waiting to see a full review discussing it's heat and battery life. I'm wondering why HP didn't think of adding in a switchable integrated graphics card...
-
Actually that quote is not from HP's Twitter, just some random guy (PatrickHealy apparently) who seems to just repost a lot of deals/coupons. I wouldn't go on his say so, but honestly, anybody that worried should just bite today, just in case.
-
Hey man, don't get me wrong, the SXPS is a solid machine. It ran all the games i put on it flawlessly. But even on a flat surface it would heat up quite a bit. Also besides the vents at the bottom there was the well documented issue of the only other vent being blocked by the monitor/lid when opened. I was very dissapointed by how the guys who designed the laptop could overlook such a blatant design flaw.
I read about the Envy 15 getting pretty how too. But 2 fans, and multiple heat release vents (I think boths left, right and front of laptop has vents) should keep it within reason. I can't imagine how much hotted the SXPS 16 is going to get with a core i7 in there as opposed to the C2D that i purchased it with.
Also the mobility of th laptop was a bit iffy... i thought it was a bit cumbersome to carry around. The leather was a nice thought... but it felt kinda cheap. Maybe it was just the Arctic White models (the one i got) where the leather wasn't that nice... but my experience was pretty bad.
Not saying the Envy is a sure thing... so far its looking pretty iffy as well with no reviews, a US only release, and a glitchy ordering system where cheaper options actually cost more... but I'm hoping it'll come in as a better option than the SXPS 16 because i'm sick of Dell and how they treated me for their defective laptops. -
ok i have scoured the internets and the twitter posts.
NO WHERE do i see that it is today only. Yet, you say everywhere you have seen "today only", but you don't provide a link. Can we keep the misinformation to a minimum. I only see TODAY ONLY by people just posting in forums who have no connection to bing or HP. Everything that seems officially connected to bing or HP says limited time only. Starts October 18. -
I agree. Who knows then when it could end, but yeah I'd definitely get it today, which I in fact did.
-
I think I'll hold off and wait for reviews. I'm not in the market for a laptop just yet I guess. If this turns out to be a great laptop, I'll wait till the next deal comes around.
-
Deals come around all the time. If I wasn't in need of a smaller laptop than my HDX18, I wouldn't order just yet. But since I did, I pulled the trigger.
-
I think I will back from this one too.
No bing CB confirmation. Better go safe with Dell/... -
I think its just safer to wait and read the reviews on the laptop first. I'd rather wait for another deal and read reviews when its released rather than jump on a deal now and possibly suffer with it
-
well I got my confirmation email fairly shortly after I ordered. Maybe 45 mins? So it wasn't an issue whatsoever.
-
I look forward to seeing reviews and loots of pictures from you guys who bought it. Benchmark some games too!
-
I kinda understand how you feel on this one, since you're not sure if you'll get the money back. For small purchases it isn't so bad, but for big purchases you might get nervous. But I can say that they are totally reliable in getting your money back to you. It's how I saved $170 on my EliteBook. And if you don't get any confirmation, you can always cancel your order, or return it within 21 days.
-
ok - got a new order - got confirmation in 10 minutes.
You earned $1019.25 from your HP Home & Home Office Store purchase on 10/18/2009:
NICE
-
also just for info - they still trying to charge for the shipping - call support after you ordered - and they return those charges
-
Did you choose 2 day shipping? If you go with the standard they charge shipping, but if you click on the 2 day, it's free. BUT they did charge me $11.99 for the printer. The printer gets free standard shipping, but you cannot choose to get free standard shipping on the printer, and free 2 day on the laptop, it has to be 2 day for the complete order.

I was reading on the 4830 mobility, and AMD stated that:
http://www.slashgear.com/ati-mobility-radeon-hd-4860-4830-40nm-full-hd-0336299/
Does that mean that the envy will have switchable graphics :O -
No.

I know prior to HP's envy line, they had the Voodoo. What was the time frame for each refresh of their laptop models? I've never followed up on HP's past top end lineups and would like to know how long we should be expecting an update on the Envy model.
-
WHAT?!? Are you kidding me? No single 500GB HDD? That means I'll have to sell those two 250GB HDD's and get a 500GB HDD to have an open slot for my 80GB SSD.
BTW, I thought I remembered hearing that one of the HDD slots were the 1.8" kind???? -
AFAIK they're both standard 2.5" slots. Whether that menas 9.5mm height remains to be seen but it would make sense if they were.
-
I just tried calling HP Support and the rep told me that she couldn't cancel the shipping charges after the orders been processed. Instead she gave me a $15 credit. I'm not sure if it's to my credit card or HP account, but I gave up trying and just said fine. So just a heads up.
I'm so excited for this Envy 15 by the way. It's about time I upgraded.
And Pooster, this is literally being just released. There won't be a refresh for a long time. -
Can anyone please confirm that the 500GB standard HDD option is TWO 250GB HDD's? Or provide a proof link?
-
Guess I used the wrong term. I meant to ask how long it takes HP to update their series with newer hardware.
-
If you go to HP's site for the Envy 15 and click on the "Help me decide" link, it pops up a description window, and in there, it will say 500GB (250GB x 2)
-
Ahh, cripes! What the hell was HP thinking? A retarded selection if you ask me. Now I have to decide if I want in on the 25% off or not. This sucks, HP really blew it on this one. Total crap custom config options.
-
Why does it even matter?
You can pull those drives out. Actually, you could even make double the money by selling them.
?? -
I understand, I'm not happy with what options they have available right now either, I had seen they were going to offer a 160GB ssd with a 500GB hdd 7200 rpm and had that been available, I might have ordered today, but as it is, I'm probably going to wait until Thanksgiving or Christmas and see if they offer the 30-40% off coupon and update the specs, then we'll see.
I'll also get the chance to read some reviews.
That is also a possibility. -
pulled trigger can't wait to have one on my desk
-
I was thinking that too. If I got 2x250gb drives, I'd take one out and put it in my PS3.
-
It would have been much better to just have one 500GB HDD so that people wanting to install a SSD wouldn't have to go through the trouble of selling two crap HDD's to try and get the money to fund one 500GB HDD!
-
will this come with the windows 7 discs? my last hp didnt come with vista disks. so how do i reinstall windows when i replace my hdd's?
-
500GB HDD can be had for cheap.
If you're dropping $2k on a laptop you should be able to afford a platter based HDD.
I guess I just don't see it at as a deal breaker, IMO. -
I can afford it, I just don't like wasting the effort/time to sell it. And, does that void your warranty? If you don't have the original HDD's in it, if you need a repair done?
-
im also interested in this, anyone know? Think we will see new options for the envy round thanksgiving/Christmas??
-
Doubt it. 6 months is the industry average before new tech gets even announced. Thats because it takes about 1 month on average for the first wave of buyers to get machines, and 3 months on average before the machine is well known and starts to hit its peak buying frenzy, then add in about 2 months extra for milking the original launch buzz and throwing out some deals to clear some inventory, leaves you announcing a refresh about 6-7 months down the road.
In other cases, it can take a year. I will be very surprised if this model gets much of an update though. With the heat problems its already facing, sticking more power in it is only asking for trouble... and its not really what its designed for. -
that's a good question... anyone?
-
i dunno... Dell stuck a heck of a lot of more power into the SXPS 16 since its original release (more powerful gpu, more powerful processors) and they seemed to address the heating issues by modifying Bios settings to get the fan in the machine to spin faster and more frequently (i.e. all the freggin time). it didn't fix the heating issue... but it did keep the heat to reasonable levels while the machine was in use.
-
the only thing i could see them updating is the hard drives. the more you make of something the cheaper it is to make each one. if people are unsatisfied then they will update in 6 months and make a big deal about it. but right now cpu/gpu are pretty much the best you can get in the envy form factor for heat and energy consumtion reasons and because next generation cpu/gpu's are supposed to be on 32nm they will require a different mother board. and you really cant ask for more ram from a laptop can you?
-
let me get this straight you don't get anything in email about cashback until a day after order correct?
-
what about backlit keyboard, upgrading from the wireless from the 5100 to the 5300, and allowing the graphics card to be switchable as it is in the envy 13?
can i ask for that? -
sure but dont expect anything before 6 months.
i dont expect to see a backlit keyboard or switchable graphics in the 15 ever but thats my opinion. i would like it too but i dont see it happening in a hardware update. maybe when the next gen comes out. -
I've been lurking here for a few weeks and found some great info from everyone here. want to say thank you!!! I couldn't fight my temptation and I decided bite the bullet and pull the trigger and get the the envy 15 base spec...... for all the people who are wondering about bing cash back, I got my email about ten minutes after I placed my order and this is what it says in my account after the purchase...
Total cashback $450.00
yipee, i'm so excited
first post on nbr.
first purchase from hp.com.
first time using bing cashback.
everything went so smooth, couldn't be more pleased. -
It looks like the reply to email can happen in minutes or a day, I know pretty broad answer. It was my first time using bing cashback today and I got an email back in about ten minutes. I'm one of the lucky ones
